As soon as she thought about giving her first time to this guy, William Carter felt a suffocating frustration in her heart. At the very least, she should be able to summon a level-five Grass Mud Horse or a Pat-Pat Bear.
Well, count yourself lucky. I’m in a hurry to test my skills today—take this!
Nothing happened at all. The kobold was still squatting there, and its hoarse voice sounded again, “The wild monster’s level is too high, unable to persuade.”
What?
Chapter Two: William Carter’s “Superb” Attributes
William Carter was stunned. The Holy Persuasion skill could even summon level-six monsters, so why couldn’t she summon a level-one kobold now? What the heck was going on?
Just as she was feeling frustrated, the kobold noticed William Carter and came charging over, waving its little shovel.
Damn it, does it really think I’m an easy target?
In Dota, even a level-one kobold barely loses any health when attacked. Without thinking, William Carter swung a punch at the kobold’s face. At the same time, the kobold’s little shovel swung toward William Carter’s stomach.
Up close, the pressure from that shovel was actually pretty intense, and William Carter couldn’t help but feel a chill in her heart.
It looks scary, but its attack power is actually very low. I’m a hero, after all. William Carter tried to comfort herself, but before she could finish the thought, she let out a miserable scream and was sent flying by the shovel.
That was a real, solid hit. The moment the shovel struck, William Carter felt like all her internal organs were about to come out of her mouth. That feeling was truly unforgettable.
She traced a graceful arc through the air and crashed hard to the ground. Luckily, the thick layer of fallen leaves cushioned the impact. William Carter didn’t have time to think about what had happened—she opened her mouth and vomited up all the porridge she’d eaten that morning.
Damn it, aren’t I supposed to be a hero?
She suddenly discovered a health bar in her mind. After taking that hit, she’d lost half her health—only nine HP left. What’s going on? Nine HP is half my health bar, so I only have eighteen HP in total?
Attack 1–1, Health 19, Mana 13, Strength 1, Agility 1, Intelligence 1, Armor 0, and the armor type is “no armor.”
(Here’s an introduction to the game’s attribute system: 1 point of Strength = 19 HP, and each point increases health regeneration speed. 1 point of Intelligence = 13 Mana, and each point increases mana regeneration speed and the hero’s mental strength. 7 points of Agility = 1 Armor, and each point of Agility increases attack speed by 1%. In addition, each point added to a hero’s primary attribute increases attack power by one.)
A string of data popped into William Carter’s mind. Damn, these stats are way too “superb.” There had never been such low attributes before. Except for Tiny’s Agility, all other heroes’ starting stats are double digits, with hundreds of HP, and no hero has ever had “no armor” as their armor type. (A hero’s armor type should be “hero armor,” which reduces all attack damage except for holy damage and chaos attacks.)
I’m a transmigrator, for crying out loud! I didn’t even complain when you didn’t give me Eye of Skadi, Divine Rapier, Butterfly, or Monkey King Bar, but you actually gave me such “superb” attributes.
No time to complain about fate—the kobold was charging over again. If she took another hit, she’d definitely die. She’d just found hope in this new life; how could she die now?
Thinking quickly, William Carter let out a strange cry, rolled her eyes, and collapsed to the ground, playing dead.
A real man knows when to yield and when to stand tall, not to mention that William Carter was never a proper person to begin with.
But playing dead also takes courage. If your heart is pounding like a basketball, no matter how well you act, it’s useless.
The kobold had clearly never encountered this situation before. With its intelligence, it couldn’t possibly understand what William Carter was doing. It hesitated for a moment, waving its little shovel in confusion.
“Whoosh!”
Just then, a sharp arrow whistled through the air, striking the kobold right in its left eye. The kobold squealed and jumped up. As it did, a burly man in armor dropped from the sky, smashing the kobold with his shield. Using his weight and the momentum from his fall, he drove a heavy sword into the kobold’s neck.
Immediately after, another tall warrior burst out of the woods, swinging his heavy sword in a frenzy at the kobold. The kobold’s shrill screams echoed as blood splattered everywhere.
A dozen seconds later, the kobold stopped struggling and collapsed in a pool of blood.
A tall, slender female elf slowly emerged from the woods.
William Carter was stunned, then scrambled to her feet. There wasn’t a trace of embarrassment on her face, as if she hadn’t just been playing dead, but had instead heroically acted as bait.
“Nice shot!” The burly man who had landed glanced at the arrow embedded in the kobold’s left eye and praised sincerely.
Hearing this, William Carter was shocked. The burly man was clearly speaking a language she’d never heard before, yet she could understand every word.
The elven girl held an ancient longbow. Her long green hair couldn’t hide her pointed ears, and the short leather armor she wore did nothing to conceal her explosive figure.
She smiled slightly, pulled the arrow out with one hand, and put it back in her quiver. Judging by the faint magical glow on the arrowhead, it was clearly an enchanted arrow—quite valuable, and not to be wasted.
There were two human men in heavy armor and one long-legged elf in total.
