Chapter 12

Somewhat excited and nervous, he took out the purple Extreme Magic Orb, probed it with his mental power, and saw that the cooldown time was still 1712 seconds.

Sure enough, it was the one. What surprised and thrilled William Carter the most was that the Extreme Magic Orb also contained a message: Purple Extreme First Attribute activated: Vitality. Next hidden attribute activation requires 5 Intelligence points.

There’s another hidden attribute? What could it be? +100 to all attributes? If that’s really the case, that would be awesome.

If not, even an extra seventy or eighty attack points would be fine—I’m not asking for much.

Or maybe a bunch of auras: lifesteal aura, evil aura, endurance aura, luck aura, invincibility aura, stud aura, turtle aura, tiger’s might aura...

Heh heh... What I want most is the stud aura. Make all the beautiful women in the world fall madly in love with me, and I just ignore them!

William Carter stroked his chin, grinning from ear to ear, his face full of lecherous delight.

But what exactly is this thing?

Why did it bring me to this dota world, and why did it end up back in my hands by some twist of fate?

William Carter was sure that being able to buy it in the shop was definitely no coincidence.

He never expected to just randomly run into some clueless shopkeeper, or always find artifacts or rare treasures in some shady general store.

If he couldn’t figure it out, he just wouldn’t think about it—William Carter was never one to bother using his brain.

After fighting for so long, he was already exhausted. Earlier, when the antelope and demon wolf knocked over the campfire, the roast lamb had fallen to the ground, covered in grass and dirt. (To prevent a fire, the vegetation near the campfire had already been cleared by the protagonist, leaving bare earth exposed.)

William Carter was never a clean freak. He picked up the meat with his hand and took a bite. After all this time, the meat was at just the right temperature. He ate his fill, then took a tent out of his inventory, wiped the grease off his hands on the canvas, and lay down to sleep.

Set up the tent? Of course William Carter wouldn’t bother with that. He just piled the tent over himself, folded a piece to cushion his back, and slept like that.

Who says a tent has to be set up?

Before he fell asleep, William Carter suddenly remembered something, grabbed the tent, and left that spot. No way he was going to risk another wolf being attracted by the smell and getting himself killed.

That night, William Carter fought for over eight hours, killing ninety-six sheep, three stags, and one giant wolf. He gained 122 experience points, with each stag giving two points.

If he only rested eight hours and spent the other eight leveling up, at this rate—even ignoring the twenty experience from the giant wolf—William Carter would only need five days to reach level two. That’s an insane speed.

Normally, newbies have poor equipment and can’t keep up with supplies, so they can only team up and level slowly, killing twenty or thirty monsters a day, scraping together ten experience points, and taking about a hundred days to reach level two.

Disciples of big families are a bit faster, since they have plenty of supplies, but even then it takes over a month.

Although it doesn’t take much experience to go from level one to two, since newbies are just starting out, this level is very hard to gain. Many even die on the road to leveling up.

William Carter slept straight through to noon the next day. When he woke up, the demonized antelope was still grazing. This guy does nothing but fight and eat—probably because it burns so much energy.

Level up! Level up!

William Carter is lazy when he can be, but when it comes to grinding, he’s absolutely diligent.

He took out some rations from his inventory and ate, drank some water, and started slaughtering sheep again. With the Power Gloves, William Carter’s personal safety was assured, his attack increased a lot, and his leveling efficiency improved again.

By evening, William Carter encountered another demonized antelope, but unfortunately, the level one Holy Persuasion summon limit was only one, so he had to kill this antelope, gaining ten experience points, but no items dropped, which left William Carter a bit disappointed.

After using Vitality, both he and the antelope were almost at full health. The purple Extreme was really useful—leveling up not only didn’t cost money, it actually made money.

He grinded straight until midnight. William Carter hastily ate some rations—he didn’t dare roast whole lamb anymore, even though that demonized giant wolf had brought him a lot of experience and a nice piece of equipment.

But you only have one life—William Carter wasn’t about to risk his own neck. Even though he used to wish for the end of the world when he was down and out, now that he finally saw hope in life, how could he bear to die?

Besides, just thinking about how his body was torn to shreds by the wolf gave William Carter the chills. At the time, he was so focused he barely even felt the pain.

“Hey, hey, hey! Th-this friend, you... you’re sleeping like this, it’s really dangerous!”

The sun had just come up when William Carter was woken by a noisy voice. Rubbing his eyes, he saw a bespectacled young man shouting at him. The guy’s face was as round as an old-fashioned alarm clock, his eyes weren’t big but were especially bright, his nose was a bit flat, and his eyebrows were so thick they almost connected.

“What are you yelling about?” Annoyed at having his sweet dream interrupted, William Carter was about to lose his temper, but then he caught sight of a group of people behind the alarm clock guy and immediately shut up.
