Chapter 5

The woman's skin was fairer than snow, her features stunning, and her figure tall and slender. There was no doubt that the legs hidden beneath her long dress must be incredibly long.

David Harris, however, could not appreciate this woman's beauty. The moment he saw her, he shuddered, sprang up from the ground, and stammered in a trembling voice, "S-second Miss, w-what are you doing here!"

The woman glanced at him indifferently and asked, "What are you doing here? Where is Grace Clark?"

David Harris glanced guiltily into the brothel and said, "I don't know..."

His small gesture was keenly noticed by the woman in white. She frowned slightly and asked again, "Where is Grace Clark?"

David Harris shook his head and said, "I really don't know."

The woman in white looked at him coldly and said, "You are his personal bodyguard. Wherever he is, you should be there too. How could you not know?"

Noticing that David Harris's gaze was evasive, glancing aside from time to time as if feeling guilty, the woman in white turned her gaze toward the brothel, her voice icy and chilling, as if coming from the depths of hell: "Don't tell me Grace Clark is inside..."

Chapter 003: An Unintentional Outcome

Pin Fang Pavilion.

A private room on the second floor.

Grace Clark was comforting Hazel.

Through their earlier conversation, he had already learned about Hazel's background.

She was originally born into an ordinary farming family in Jiangning Prefecture of Daxia, the eldest daughter of the family. They were poor, barely scraping by as a family of three. Later, her parents had a son, and with four mouths to feed, they could no longer make ends meet.

To get a few taels of silver, her parents sold her to a wealthy family in the city.

This was not necessarily a bad thing. Although after being sold, her fate was no longer her own, at least she could survive and not starve to death, and her parents and younger brother could live a little better than before.

But unfortunately, the master of that wealthy family coveted her body. If not for the mistress's jealousy, he would have made a move on her long ago. After realizing her husband's intentions, the mistress would often beat and scold her, venting her anger on her whenever she was displeased. Later, she simply sold her off to a brothel.

Faced with the clients arranged by the brothel, at first she resisted with all her might, but after being beaten and tortured several times, she gave up resisting.

After that, she began the path of an ordinary brothel girl.

Grace Clark gently held the woman's hand and sighed, saying, "The past is gone, what's done is done. You still have to look forward in life; you still have a future."

Grace Clark was stalling for time, but not entirely.

At first, he looked down on these brothel girls, but later his attitude changed.

People like Hazel, from the moment they were born, their fate was never in their own hands. They themselves had no power to change anything.

As Grace Clark brought up the past, Hazel's eyes grew moist, but she still shook her head and said, "Young master, it's easy for you to say. For someone like me, what future could there possibly be?"

Grace Clark gently patted her hand and said, "Actually, I can understand some of what you feel. After my parents divorced, they each remarried. I don't understand either—I'm their child too, so why didn't they want me..."

In another life, Grace Clark's parents divorced and each started new families.

After that, Grace Clark seemed to be forgotten. The two rarely contacted Grace Clark, except when it came to money—they never let him lack for it.

But what they didn't know was that Grace Clark never lacked money.

Still, having money had its advantages: there was never a shortage of people around him. Perhaps that's why, every so often, when Grace Clark woke up, there would be a different beautiful face beside him, and yet so many people kept coming to him.

Grace Clark provided the money, they provided the company—each got what they needed.

After a long while, Grace Clark let out a breath, sealing away certain memories for good, never to recall them again.

After all, that was a matter of his previous life.

Hazel looked up at Grace Clark, incredulous. "Young master, you actually went through something like that?"

Grace Clark smiled slightly and said, "That's all in the past. People like us shouldn't always dwell on what happened before. We should think more about the future. The past can't be changed, but the future holds all possibilities..."

Hazel's body trembled, as if she was carefully pondering Grace Clark's words. The room fell into silence.

At this moment, a glimmer of light flashed in Grace Clark's eyes.

Just give him a little more time, and he could fully copy that ability inside Hazel!

Just then, a commotion suddenly sounded outside the door, mixed with the madam's shouts.

"Hey, miss, you can't go in!"

"Miss, miss..."

...

Bang!

The door to the room suddenly opened.

No, not opened—collapsed.

The two heavy door panels fell straight down.

A tall woman in white stood at the doorway, her gaze fixed on Grace Clark, gritting her teeth as she said, "Grace Clark, how dare you visit a brothel!"

With the appearance of the woman in white, it seemed as if the temperature in the entire room dropped a few degrees.

Grace Clark looked at the woman in white in confusion. "Who are you?"

The woman in white strode over to Grace Clark, grabbed his wrist, and said coldly, "Come back with me!"
