Chapter 20

A true man knows when to retreat, so Grace Clark took a step back and said, “Don’t forget, fighting is forbidden inside the Academy of Arcane Arts!”

Charles Foster glanced at him mockingly and said, “That rule does exist in the academy regulations, but right now, we’re outside the Academy of Arcane Arts…”

Before he finished speaking, he threw a punch at Grace Clark’s chest.

Facing Charles Foster’s charged attack, Grace Clark tensed all his muscles, ready to react, but then suddenly relaxed.

Charles Foster thought he had given up resisting and added even more force to his punch. But at that moment, he suddenly felt a chill, and a thick layer of ice quickly formed beneath his feet, freezing him in place.

A faint fragrance drifted closer as Emily Turner walked up to Grace Clark, her gaze icy as she stared at Charles Foster and asked, “You were going to break two of his ribs?”

Charles Foster’s feet were numb by now, and he felt as if he’d fallen into an ice cave. Shivering, he looked at Emily Turner and stammered, “It’s forbidden to use arcane arts in fights inside the academy—let me go!”

Emily Turner gave him a cool glance and said, “That rule does exist in the academy regulations, but right now, we’re outside…”

As soon as she finished speaking, Charles Foster was lifted into the air and then slammed hard onto the ground. The stabbing pain in his chest made it clear that he’d definitely broken a few ribs.

Grace Clark looked speechlessly at Emily Turner. When she kicked just now, he was surprised to notice that she was actually wearing pants under her skirt.

What kind of outfit is that? There’s really no trust left between people these days…

Chapter 010: Night Raid

Charles Foster propped himself up with one hand, clutching his chest with the other, and glared angrily at Emily Turner. “This is a grudge between me and Grace Clark—what’s it got to do with you?”

Emily Turner looked down at Charles Foster from above and said coolly, “His business is my business.”

Charles Foster was shocked. Could it be that Grace Clark and Emily Turner are together?

No, that’s impossible. Aside from being a bit handsome, Grace Clark is completely useless. Charles Foster didn’t believe the second young lady of the Zhao family was that shallow.

But regardless, with Emily Turner blocking him, there was no way he could do anything to Grace Clark today.

A yellow glow flickered on Charles Foster’s chest, and the pain from his broken bones eased a little. He struggled to his feet, shot Grace Clark a cold look, and said, “We’ll meet again…”

With that, he limped away.

As he passed by Grace Clark, Charles Foster suddenly stopped, a smirk curling at his lips. Lowering his voice, he said, “Oh, I almost forgot to tell you—the woman really was killed on my orders. I wanted to have my way with her, but she foolishly tried to report me to the authorities. She just didn’t know what was good for her… So, how does that make you feel?”

Grace Clark’s expression gradually froze, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white.

Charles Foster gave him a mocking look, then turned and left.

Emily Turner turned to Grace Clark and asked, “How did you get involved with him?”

Grace Clark didn’t explain much and changed the subject: “What was that ability he used just now?”

Emily Turner curled her lip and said, “Just an earth-rank Stone Arcane Art. Once you awaken again, he won’t be a match for you.”

Charles Foster had completely ruined his mood for the day, and Grace Clark no longer felt like going to the academy library. He looked at Emily Turner and asked, “Are we training today like last time?”

Emily Turner shook her head and said, “Too much is as bad as too little. Let’s wait two more days, or your body won’t be able to handle it.”

Grace Clark said, “I can do it.”

He was a bit provoked by Charles Foster. Not even being able to beat such a scumbag made Grace Clark unwilling to accept it. Whether it was strength or his freezing ability, only by awakening a second time would he truly surpass ordinary people.

Emily Turner didn’t refuse Grace Clark’s persistence.

Only if Grace Clark trained hard and improved quickly would he be worthy of her sister, so she was more than willing to help him train.

Emily Turner said, “Let’s go to your place, then.”

When Grace Clark and Emily Turner returned to the Lin residence, the imperial physician invited by Lord Howard had already arrived. However, Grace Clark knew that his amnesia was because his body housed another soul. Even if Hua Tuo or Bian Que were alive, they wouldn’t be able to cure him.

In the end, the imperial physician could only tell Lord Howard and his wife that there was no medicine for amnesia, and whether he could recover his memory would depend on fate.

Since he hadn’t been able to help, the imperial physician even refunded half the consultation fee when he left. Grace Clark felt a pang of pain—Lord Howard had paid a hundred taels for this visit, which was what he earned in a year as a clerk in the Ministry of Justice. These imperial physicians really charged a fortune.

Only now did Emily Turner realize that when Grace Clark was at the brothel, he hadn’t pretended not to know her—he’d truly lost his memory. Still, she was annoyed: even with amnesia, Grace Clark hadn’t forgotten to visit a brothel. Luckily, she’d run into him by chance; otherwise, who knows what he might have done there.

Thinking of this, she grew even angrier and decided to give him a hard time during training.

Grace Clark and Emily Turner closed the door and began training in the room.
