Chapter 3

Eric Bennett was stunned!

……

Inside and outside the bank, chaos had already erupted. Dozens of criminal police officers were anxiously discussing countermeasures, and even the branch chief had rushed over. After analyzing the situation, it seemed that the only way to safely rescue the hostages was to shoot the criminals dead.

Two criminals holding homemade pistols stood in the center of the lobby, obvious targets, but the criminals were extremely cunning. They had the hostages sit in a circle in the lobby, so if anything went wrong, bullets could easily hit the crowd by mistake. Moreover, just two meters in front of Eric Bennett, there was a third criminal, holding a knife to threaten a middle-aged woman. Judging from the angle of the blade and his position, this third person was the hardest to snipe.

“Chief, we’re running out of time.”

Just as the police were preparing to send the bulletproof vehicle the criminals demanded to temporarily appease them, an officer hurried over and quickly handed the phone to Director Parker.

“I’m a trapped civilian, located in the northeast corner of the bank lobby. Is there anything I can do to help?” The voice was a woman’s. Compared to the anxiety and panic of the other hostages, she sounded much calmer.

Director Parker’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly gathered three snipers to discuss a specific plan, then observed through binoculars before speaking to the woman on the phone: “We’re confident we can shoot the three armed criminals on the spot, but the one with the knife two meters in front of you is a big problem. If he’s shot, he’s very likely to stab the woman he’s holding.”

Eric Bennett glanced blankly at the beautiful woman pressed close to him. She was holding what Eric Bennett thought was an outdated, but in 2001 was a high-end, Motorola phone. Because they were so close, Eric Bennett could hear every word of the conversation between the beautiful woman and the branch chief.

Lauren Clark frowned slightly, glanced at Eric Bennett out of the corner of her eye, then raised a finger to her sexy lips and made a “shh” gesture.

“If possible, we plan to shoot the two armed criminals first. The moment the shots are fired, have a man nearby push the woman southward with all his strength, then get down on the ground. That way, we can safely shoot the criminal.”

Lauren Clark focused her gaze on the criminal’s knife. There was some distance between the blade and the woman. As long as a little force was used, she could break the criminal’s control. “Alright, give me a countdown for the shot.” Lauren Clark took a deep breath. This task wasn’t too difficult; she could definitely handle it.

All she needed was courage!

“I suggest the man beside you do it.”

“Man?” Lauren Clark looked at Eric Bennett with some amusement. “There’s only a kid beside me.” Remembering Eric Bennett’s last words just now, Lauren Clark looked down at the small handprint on her chest, smiled wryly, and her slightly tense mood eased a little.

She quietly took off her high heels, revealing her ankles wrapped in white stockings. Once she was ready, she waited silently for the countdown.

Eric Bennett’s trembling fingertips touched his right cheek, where that unforgettable scar had now disappeared.

A bank robbery, hostages taken—such a familiar scene.

Eric Bennett could never forget that it was today his life was completely changed.

He even knew that in one minute, the criminal on the east side would be shot dead, but on the west side, the sniper would take a long time to fire a second shot after missing the first.

The beautiful woman rushed forward as soon as the shots rang out, but this movement attracted the attention of the armed criminal. Before dying, he fired two shots at the woman, one of which grazed Eric Bennett’s cheek, leaving a deep scar that made Eric Bennett feel inferior in front of women for the next ten years.

This was history.

“Don’t go!” Eric Bennett whispered urgently. “Let the police send the car and let them go, then figure something out!” But no matter how much Eric Bennett tried to persuade them, neither Lauren Clark nor Director Parker listened to him. Maybe they thought Eric Bennett was just timid and afraid.

Eric Bennett was a little angry. Although he still hadn’t figured out why he had inexplicably returned to nine years ago, he wasn’t going to miss this chance to change history.

Because of his unnecessary words, perhaps history had already changed, and the bullet that was supposed to graze his cheek might end up hitting his brain.

At this thought, Eric Bennett shuddered!

Everyone was squeezed together; Eric Bennett couldn’t even move to the right!

Any big movement would attract the criminals’ suspicion!

What should he do?

He grabbed his scalp with both hands, trying hard to recall the past. Suddenly, Eric Bennett’s eyes lit up. He remembered that after the first criminal died, the gun slid toward him!

The other criminal, after dodging the first shot, turned and ran toward the hostages, firing at the beautiful woman. There were about three seconds—no, two seconds—no…

Eric Bennett’s mind was a mess. He couldn’t remember exactly how long it took, but there was one safest way to be saved: pick up the gun immediately and shoot the criminal within two seconds.

Eric Bennett’s hands were shaking. He slowly looked at Lauren Clark, wanting to say one last thing to her: Big sister, can I kiss you one more time?

Dying twice in ten minutes?

Eric Bennett felt he was qualified to challenge the Guinness World Record.
