Chapter 10

When the teachers realized something was wrong and pulled Gavin Brooks off of Cass Brooks, Cass Brooks's once fairly handsome face had already been beaten beyond recognition. Rumor had it that when Cass Brooks returned home after school, even his own mother had to look at him for a long time before she could confirm that this was indeed the son she had raised for over a decade.

It wasn’t even his own business—just something involving a friend from the same dormitory—yet Gavin Brooks could go this far when he got ruthless. Logan Brooks seriously doubted that if he ever betrayed their supposedly ‘solid’ friendship, Gavin Brooks, feeling the sting of betrayal, might just beat him to death and leave his corpse in the wilderness that very night.

“I…” Logan Brooks sighed helplessly, placing a few copper coins next to Gavin Brooks, his weak tone full of reluctance: “I’ll still bet on Gavin Brooks.”

Several students from Class One looked at Logan Brooks as if he were an idiot, while the students from Class Two all gave him a collective thumbs up and said, “Gutsy!”

Gutsy? Of course he was! Knowing full well that the brute Rudy Brooks was far stronger than Gavin Brooks, Logan Brooks still put his coins on Gavin Brooks. How could everyone not think he was gutsy to the point of being out of his mind?

Gavin Brooks shot Logan Brooks a look that said “at least you know what’s good for you,” and tightened his grip on Rudy Brooks’s hand, adding even more strength as they entered the final preparation phase before the match.

Rudy Brooks felt the force of Gavin Brooks’s five fingers increase again, and his two thick brown eyebrows shot up in surprise, astonished looks flashing repeatedly from his bull-like eyes.

Among the first-year warrior students, aside from those two with one-sixth barbarian blood, Rudy Brooks had never seen anyone with such strength.

Chapter 8: Instant Victory

Gavin Brooks eyed Rudy Brooks suspiciously, secretly wondering if Rudy Brooks was deliberately trying to lose, or maybe he wanted to toy with him—pretending to be in a bad spot, only to slowly turn the tables and show off his true brute strength?

While both were curious, Logan Brooks had already positioned their tightly clasped hands at the fairest spot, then suddenly let go and shouted, “Begin—”

Bang!

The table instantly let out a crisp, hard thud, the powerful impact and vibration making the whole table bounce off the ground for a moment.

Everyone in the room stared dumbfounded at the astonishing scene before them. The instant Logan Brooks shouted [Begin], Gavin Brooks’s arm suddenly exploded with force, slamming the brute Rudy Brooks’s hand hard onto the tabletop.

Gavin Brooks… had won…

Not only did Gavin Brooks win, but he won with incredible decisiveness and ease. The brute Rudy Brooks didn’t even have time to react before Gavin Brooks took him out in an instant.

The outcome was decided so quickly that everyone was left frozen on the spot, unable to accept what had just happened.

Who was Rudy Brooks? The third strongest first-year in the Oaklay Academy’s warrior division! Only behind the two warriors with one-sixth barbarian blood.

Even among the second-year warrior seniors, many couldn’t match Rudy Brooks in pure brute strength.

The students of Class Two all stared at Gavin Brooks in unison, each one wondering how this guy from Class One—who barely ranked in the top fifty in raw strength among first-years—could possibly beat Rudy Brooks at arm wrestling.

Everything happened so fast. Gavin Brooks stared blankly at his own arm, which had just overpowered the brute Rudy Brooks, unable to figure out what had just happened. How did a sudden burst of strength defeat the brute Rudy Brooks? It was as easy and effortless as beating Logan Brooks.

Gavin Brooks even wondered if he was dreaming. This victory felt far too unreal—he’d actually beaten the brute at arm wrestling in an instant.

For a moment, the dorm room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Logan Brooks also stared dumbly at the outcome on the table, completely stunned. He had only wanted to find someone who wouldn’t lose too miserably in the match, but never imagined Gavin Brooks could actually win.

Everyone was so shocked by the scene that they even forgot to breathe. While all were still in disbelief, Logan Brooks’s slightly chubby body suddenly trembled, and then…

A flash of excitement was the first to appear in Logan Brooks’s chubby, triangular eyes. Like a wild boar diving into a bush, he threw himself onto the arm wrestling table, greedily sweeping up the coins others had bet on his companion.

Gavin Brooks was startled by Logan Brooks’s sudden move. Watching his friend busily collecting money, he finally confirmed he wasn’t dreaming—Logan Brooks, coming from a merchant family, had an unusual obsession and greed for money.

The time Gavin Brooks was most shocked by Logan Brooks’s obsession with money was when the two were out walking and Logan Brooks suddenly stopped, insisting he smelled the scent of money and that someone must have dropped some coins here.

After several minutes of searching, Logan Brooks finally found a copper coin in the grass.

“Haha, I made a profit, I made a profit.” Logan Brooks quickly gathered up the winnings with his ten chubby fingers, still sounding deeply surprised: “We won, actually won, who would’ve thought.”
