Chapter 18

Gavin Brooks sighed softly. Those who have never truly seen a bloodline warrior with their own eyes simply have no idea how powerful they are! Once you’ve witnessed the might of a bloodline warrior, if anyone still thinks they can defeat one, you really have to wonder—are they just naïve, or are they delusional?

Even a primary awakened bloodline warrior—just a primary awakened Elf King bloodline warrior... Gavin Brooks shook his head gently. The world is just that unfair. Some people, simply because their bloodline power awakens, instantly have a dazzling future ahead of them. They don’t need to be geniuses; just the awakening of their bloodline power makes them even more terrifying than the world’s true prodigies.

Gavin Brooks secretly glanced at his own hands and body, letting out a quiet sigh. He was a member of the Qian family too, so why did he just have to fail the bloodline warrior awakening test? That’s why he could only come here to search for the warrior’s secret manual from the treasure map. Even if he couldn’t become an invincible bloodline warrior, at least he could gain great strength and not be looked down upon by others. If he was lucky, even if he couldn’t defeat the three primary awakened bloodline warriors, maybe he’d still have a chance to beat a primary Wolf King bloodline warrior or something like that?

“Gavin Brooks, Gavin Brooks...” Rodney Brooks waved his hand repeatedly in front of Gavin Brooks’s eyes. “What are you thinking about? So, what do you say? I really believe you’ll become a great warrior in the future!”

Gavin Brooks smiled gently back at Rodney Brooks. If he didn’t want to prove to those in his family who looked down on him that, even if his bloodline couldn’t awaken, he could still be a great warrior, he wouldn’t be here in this remote city of Auckland. He’d be in a bustling city, working as a businessman.

“All right.” Gavin Brooks looked at Rodney Brooks with interest. “So, teacher, what should I do? How can I cooperate?”

“First, you need to take part in the trial.” Rodney Brooks’s serious expression suddenly turned a bit blank. “And then... then...”

Gavin Brooks watched as Rodney Brooks trailed off for a long time without continuing, and smiled. “All right, teacher, I understand. Thank you, really. I’ll participate in the trial, just let me know when it’s scheduled.”

A happy smile bloomed on Rodney Brooks’s somewhat dazed face. “Good, that’s more like it.”

Gavin Brooks was thinking about buying bedsheets and finding a new job as soon as possible, so he could get back to his room earlier and study that strange hat. “Teacher, I’ll be going now. I’ll let you get back to work.”

Leaving the teacher’s dormitory, Gavin Brooks saw someone standing not far away and started to wonder if maybe today just wasn’t a good day to go out. Usually, apart from classes, training, working, and sleeping, there was hardly anything else going on—so why was today so busy?

Cass Brooks, the one who once led a few underlings to beat up Logan Brooks and threatened him not to pursue the school beauty, and who was turned into a pig’s head by Gavin Brooks during a sparring class, had reappeared on campus after some time off.

Cass Brooks was tall and slender. Aside from a slightly hooked nose, he could be considered quite handsome. Four students of varying heights followed behind him, and when they saw Gavin Brooks, their eyes were immediately full of provocation.

In the not-so-wide corridor, Cass Brooks and his men lined up shoulder to shoulder, completely blocking the way, their eyes brimming with challenge.

Gavin Brooks looked at the slightly taller Cass Brooks in his brocade warrior’s uniform, raised an eyebrow, rolled his shoulders, and turned his neck with a smile. “Blocking my way? Itching for a beating? Want to get thrashed?”

His knuckles cracked loudly as he clenched his fists, and the slightly impatient smile on Gavin Brooks’s face made Cass Brooks and his three henchmen shiver at the same time, remembering that one time Gavin Brooks went all out in the academy—calling him a mad tiger wouldn’t be an exaggeration.

“Gavin Brooks... you... don’t get cocky.” Cass Brooks clearly took a step back, his nerves making his words stutter. “I-I’m not afraid of you. I’m here today to tell you, after dinner this afternoon, you... you come to the grove behind the academy, and we’ll settle things between us.”

The grove behind the Auckland Academy of Magic and Warriors was a place even the teachers acknowledged as the spot for students to privately settle disputes.

Gavin Brooks frowned and smiled. These students, who didn’t have to worry about making a living and were bored after eating their fill every day, really ought to have more classes!

“What? Scared?” Cass Brooks’s jaw twitched a few times. “Afraid?”

Gavin Brooks gave a helpless smile. With someone like Cass Brooks, he could beat him easily with just one hand. Where did he get the courage to come and show off again? Wouldn’t it be better to spend the time working a part-time job to earn more, or go back to his room to study that hat? Why bother with the grove?

“Move aside.” Gavin Brooks raised his hand and gave Cass Brooks a push. The strength that could knock over a wild bull like Rudy Brooks instantly made Cass Brooks lose his balance, and his butt met the ground in a very intimate way, kicking up a bit of dust.

Cass Brooks watched Gavin Brooks’s departing back and shouted unwillingly, “Gavin Brooks! After dinner, the grove. Otherwise, you’ll regret it.”

Gavin Brooks shook his head helplessly, raising his hand and waving it casually. “If you’re itching for a beating, go find your mom. I don’t have time to teach you a lesson every time for her, and she doesn’t even pay me.”
