Chapter 16

She adjusted herself and continued, “Bill, Ethan Brooks is right. I am now his fiancée, and there is still an engagement between us, so it’s best if we keep our distance from now on. And you, Ethan Brooks, listen to me: I am only your fiancée in name. I will absolutely never marry you, and I will make sure my father annuls this engagement.”

After saying this, William Clark stormed off in anger, not even bothering to eat.

You damn little brat, how dare you talk to me like that! Now you’ve grown wings and dare to talk back—I'm so furious!!

“You useless good-for-nothing, you’d better watch yourself!” Bill said viciously, then ran off to chase after William Clark.

Ethan Brooks, oh Ethan Brooks, just how many messes have you left for me to clean up? Ethan Brooks also got up and left, feeling quite helpless inside.

Chapter 11: Visiting Again

“Ethan Brooks, you looked so manly just now!” In the classroom, Olivia Smith sat in front of Ethan Brooks, her eyes shining as she stared at him.

“You’re still my fiancée right now, so don’t get too close to other men!” Olivia Smith mimicked Ethan Brooks’s tone from earlier.

“……” Ethan Brooks remained silent, since he’d already said this several times, but Olivia Smith in front of him just kept going. Luckily, they weren’t alone in the classroom, or else Ethan Brooks would really be suffering.

“To be honest, Ethan Brooks, did you take some kind of miracle drug yesterday? You seem like a completely different person.” Once Olivia Smith felt the joke had run its course, she got to the main point.

“I did take something—it made me figure out a lot, so I changed.” Ethan Brooks replied with a smile.

The other students, who had been chatting nearby, suddenly gathered around. “What kind of miracle drug is that? Tell us about it.” It seemed this group was very interested in Ethan Brooks’s transformation, and their previous conversation had been all about it.

“The Five Poisons Deadly Pill!”

“Come on, that’s poison. You think we don’t know?” everyone scoffed in unison.

“It is poison, that’s right. But it’s what made me realize some things. If any of you are stuck on something, I don’t mind if you try what I did. But if anything bad happens, it’s not my responsibility.” Ethan Brooks said seriously.

Seeing Ethan Brooks’s expression, someone believed him. “No way, you really took that stuff? It’s a miracle you’re still alive.”

“I get it now, Ethan Brooks, you must have tried to kill yourself and failed, so your personality changed. People say that when you’re at death’s door, you can see things clearly and it can change your life. Looks like you figured things out.” Olivia Smith said.

“Little girl, you’re pretty smart.” Ethan Brooks praised her. Although Olivia Smith wasn’t very beautiful, she was sharp as a tack. Could it be true that a woman’s looks and intelligence are inversely related?

He wasn’t afraid to admit it, since it gave him a good excuse for his sudden personality change.

“Must be crazy—who would try to kill themselves for no reason?” the others said disdainfully. They didn’t believe it for a second, and certainly wouldn’t try it themselves.

What a joke—surviving after taking that stuff? Not a chance.

The Five Poisons Deadly Pill is a lethal poison; basically, anyone who takes it is as good as dead. This drug is very well-known.

At that moment, a tall, strong middle-aged man walked in and said to everyone, “Alright, students, today we’re going to Training Ground No. 2. Remember, don’t get into any conflicts!” That last sentence was clearly directed at the unusually fiery Ethan Brooks today—he’d already gotten into it with two people in one day.

Now the whole school knew that Ethan Brooks from Martial Arts Class Z01 was no longer the pushover he was yesterday, but rather a troublemaker who liked to pick fights. Uh, in everyone’s mind, he was still a loser. It’s just that his personality had changed, and now he was willing to go down with the ship, making people think twice before messing with him.

After all, no one wants to lower themselves to fight with a loser!

Although people’s opinion of him as a loser hadn’t changed, at least now he wouldn’t be bullied like before. It seemed today’s events had already had an effect, and his goal was achieved.

Back to the main point, this middle-aged man was the school’s martial arts instructor, Leonard, a practical combat instructor who taught everyone how to use martial arts. Basically, the school had theory classes in the morning and practical combat in the afternoon.

Since it was practical combat, it wouldn’t be in the classroom, but outside in the training grounds. The school had seven training grounds, theoretically able to accommodate 8,000 students training at once. In reality, the school had just over 6,000 students, with some out traveling to broaden their horizons and hone their martial arts and magic.

After Leonard led Ethan Brooks and the others to Training Ground No. 2, he just tossed out, “Practice on your own,” and went off to check on students from other classes. The students in Class Z were used to this and each found a spot to practice half-heartedly.

Class Z was the most unusual class. All the other classes had fixed training grounds, but not them—they could go to any training ground, since Class Z didn’t have a dedicated practical combat instructor. For example, Raymond was the practical combat instructor for Class A03. Uh, the other classes weren’t as “elite” as Class Z; each class had between forty and sixty students.

Ethan Brooks didn’t go practice, but instead found a place to sit and watched everyone else train.
