Chapter 14

“You bunch of scum, causing me trouble at such a critical time—just wait till I get back, I’ll teach you all a lesson!” The burly middle-aged policeman kicked the leading thug hard and cursed fiercely.

Charles Warren was also identified by one of the thugs, got handcuffed by the rushing police, and was shoved into the car.

Two police cars arrived one after another, packed full, and then suddenly sped off, leaving nothing but dust behind.

Charles Warren, shoved into the car, was a bit surprised and dazed. He felt that the overall quality of these police officers was almost on par with an anti-terrorism unit.

“Kneel down, line up and squat! Behave yourselves!” As the car drove into the station, the police all seemed furious, giving each of the thugs a hard kick.

Charles Warren, wearing his school uniform, was spared from being kicked.

The middle-aged policeman glanced at Charles Warren and instructed, “This one’s a student, not with them. Take off his cuffs.”

Not only was Charles Warren uncuffed, but he was also directed to sit down on a chair.

“Captain Collins! He started the fight and even stole our money!” Brian, who had just barely recovered from the pain in his groin, gritted his teeth and protested loudly.

The other thugs quickly chimed in, “Captain Collins, we protest and testify—it was this kid who started the fight and stole our money. That’s robbery!”

“Bullshit!” The middle-aged Captain Collins slammed the table and cursed, “You think I don’t know who you are? A student robbing money from all of you? Started the fight? Do you take me for an idiot?”

“Do you know what time it is? The National Two Sessions! Leadership elections! At this critical moment, you’re causing trouble for me! Didn’t your Mr. Brooks tell you to behave during the Two Sessions? If you don’t make things easy for me, I’ll shoot you all myself!”

Captain Collins knew who the real boss behind these thugs was. But now that these small fry had caused trouble, even Mr. Brooks would have to let them take the fall as an example.

Captain Collins was clearly furious, his words full of menace, his face twisted with anger, scaring the thugs into stunned silence.

Then, Captain Collins asked Charles Warren, “Which school are you from?”

Charles Warren felt a bit confused. “Officer, I’m from City No. 3 High School, Class 3, Grade 11.”

“No. 3 High, Class 3, Grade 11? Same class as my daughter?” Captain Collins thought for a moment and nodded. “Don’t be afraid, just need to take a statement.”

At this moment, a police officer hurried in. “Captain Collins, Mr. Brooks from the city TV station is here.”

Captain Collins rubbed his temples. “Good thing we’ve been on high alert these days. Otherwise, if this case of extorting and beating up students got filmed by the TV crew at the sports center during the Two Sessions, the impact would be terrible.”

“Let her in for the interview.”

Soon, a tall, long-haired beauty in professional attire walked in with a male reporter carrying a camera.

The male reporter immediately started filming the thugs squatting in the corner.

Charles Warren recognized the beautiful reporter as the city TV station’s anchor, James Brooks, whom he often saw on TV.

The beautiful reporter James Brooks came in, chatted with Captain Collins for a while, then faced the camera. “Good evening, viewers. During the Two Sessions, the city police are making great efforts to improve public security and create a harmonious and peaceful environment for citizens... Now, here is the Nancheng Branch of the City Public Security Bureau, which tonight apprehended a gang of thugs extorting middle school students at the sports center...”

The camera focused on Brian and his group squatting on the ground.

Then, James Brooks turned the microphone and camera toward Charles Warren: “This is a student from City No. 3 High School, Class 3, Grade 11, a victim of extortion at the sports center. What are your thoughts on this incident?”

Charles Warren sniffed, catching a whiff of James Brooks’s fragrance. Suddenly, his heart started racing, and he was momentarily dazed, nodding repeatedly, “Thank you, officers, for arriving so promptly...”

Charles Warren sneaked a glance at James Brooks’s face and found that this anchorwoman was even more beautiful in person than on TV. He couldn’t help but feel his lips go dry, his mind spinning as he tried to think of something to say to make a good impression, but James Brooks had already turned the microphone toward Captain Collins.

Captain Collins cleared his throat slightly. “During the Two Sessions, our police bureau is making great efforts to improve public security. We will resolutely crack down on any illegal or disruptive behavior that undermines social harmony... During this period, we will also be inspecting some security blind spots...”

Captain Collins spoke righteously for quite a while. The beautiful anchor finally put away the microphone, and the cameraman stopped filming, greeted Captain Collins, and quickly left.

Brian and his group squatting on the ground were so angry they almost spat blood, but they didn’t dare protest loudly. They all knew how tough and hot-tempered Captain Collins was.

Although they didn’t dare make a sound, they glared at Charles Warren with eyes full of hatred.

At this moment, Charles Warren was still a bit dazed. Once he came to his senses, he ignored the hateful stares from Brian and the others and spoke to Captain Collins: “Officer, can I go home now?”
