Amy and Diana, their eyes fixed intently on the back of their lord, as if trying to discern something from him. Grace, on the other hand, glanced outside, then at Henry Clark, her thoughts unclear, but her eyes grew brighter and brighter.
Not only Grace, but everyone’s eyes became increasingly bright. This desolate place had long been plagued by drought; once there was rain, it meant harvest, it meant their lives would gradually become secure, and it meant everyone now had hope for a better life.
Previously, this so-called hope was nothing but a luxury for them. Huangsha Town, twins—these two words weighed on their hearts like two great mountains. No matter how hard they tried, how much they struggled, it was all in vain; every day was a struggle just to survive. Fortunately, everyone united in time. Though they couldn’t eat their fill, at least they could survive. Everything else, all unrealistic things, were just dreams they barely dared to entertain in their minds—sometimes, they didn’t even dare to dream at all.
However, the lord’s actions suddenly gave everyone hope again. No one here was overly ambitious; these simple people only wished to harvest a bit more grain, pick a few more wild vegetables, so they could eat their fill—there were no other extravagant desires.
The rain poured down, but the land had been parched for too long. As soon as the raindrops hit the ground, they soaked right in, leaving nothing but a bit of dampness—no other trace.
“Ah!” someone exclaimed, “We forgot to collect the rainwater.”
With this reminder, everyone seemed to come to their senses and began chattering about the same thing.
Henry Clark had already learned from Grace that the water people drank here was fetched from a dripping spring far beyond the mountains. The spring water trickled out from the rocks, never enough for everyone to drink, so even the muddy water at the bottom would be brought back, settled, and drunk. Now, with such sweet rainwater, everyone naturally felt they should save it.
Hearing everyone’s words, Henry Clark wanted to say something, but his mind suddenly grew dizzy. His body swayed twice, his vision went black, and he suddenly collapsed backward. He happened to fall onto Amy and Diana; the two girls had been watching him closely, and as soon as he fell, they hurriedly caught him. Immediately, others rushed over to help, carrying the lord into the house.
As soon as Henry Clark collapsed, the sky immediately cleared again. That white cloud still floated in the sky, only much smaller now. But no one cared about that anymore; what everyone cared about was how their new lord was doing.
When he woke again, Henry Clark found his head still groggy. As soon as he moved, two figures suddenly appeared at his side, quickly helping him sit up in bed.
“You’re Amy? And you’re Diana?” Henry Clark looked at the two delighted maids and called their names. Both girls nodded repeatedly. Henry Clark laughed heartily, “Looks like I didn’t remember wrong.”
The two girls didn’t know why Henry Clark was so happy, but as long as he was all right, they were already very relieved.
“Let’s go to the door and have a look.” It was still that so-called lord’s manor, still the same bed, but Henry Clark was anxious to see whether that white cloud was still in the sky.
Only when he saw the cloud drifting in the sky did Henry Clark finally breathe a sigh of relief. As long as it was there, nothing was seriously wrong; he could continue to play the role of a rain-summoning shaman. He just couldn’t figure out why the cloud listened to him, or why he suddenly felt dizzy and fainted.
“How long did I sleep?” Henry Clark turned and asked.
When Amy and Diana heard his question, they hurriedly gestured anxiously, wanting to speak but unable to, their flustered expressions and frail bodies making Henry Clark feel a pang of sympathy.
“No need to rush, take your time,” Henry Clark comforted them. “One… one day?” Henry Clark slowly guessed at their gestures.
“So, I slept for another whole day.” Having gotten the answer he wanted, Henry Clark couldn’t help but sigh. Since coming here, he hadn’t done much, yet he’d already slept for two days. It seemed that the pig-like immortal life he’d dreamed of—eating and sleeping, sleeping and eating—had come true ahead of schedule. The only thing was, the food made him a bit uneasy.
Chapter 7: Financial Revenue (Part 1)
The two little maids seemed to have accepted that he possessed a way to break the twins’ curse. At this moment, they didn’t stray far from him; instead, they supported him on either side, afraid he might fall again.
Henry Clark shook his head hard. His mind was still a bit foggy, but much better than before. From his memories, Henry Clark realized that this was exactly the same as the symptoms of mental exhaustion he’d experienced after over-practicing magic in the past.
Could it be aftereffects from over-controlling that cloud yesterday? This thought surfaced in Henry Clark’s mind. It seemed quite possible.
In the sky, that mysterious white cloud was still there, but Henry Clark didn’t know how to describe the relationship between himself and the cloud. What exactly was that cloud?
