Chapter 16

“Golden-eyed python, a specialty of Zhenlong Abyss. For you all right now, it’s a treasure from head to tail. Disassemble it yourselves and split the materials evenly.” A flash of blue light flickered and vanished as Eric Dawson lowered his head to fiddle with the measuring instrument again.

Only now did everyone snap back to their senses. Looking at the enormous python corpse, dozens of meters long, they all clicked their tongues in amazement.

That pounce from the golden-eyed python just now was incredibly fast and powerful, no less than a human martial arts grandmaster. It was also completely silent, which made them shudder in retrospect.

When they began to dismantle the python’s body, they found that its scales were both tough and flexible, comparable to the armor of a treasured weapon.

Even though the golden-eyed python was already dead and its vitality had faded, with their cultivation, it was still extremely difficult to break through its scales even using treasured weapons.

Yet this golden-eyed python had been slain by Eric Dawson with a single sword strike. The wound was as smooth as a mirror, without the slightest roughness—just like slicing tofu with a knife.

“Senior Brother Yan’s self-created sword technique, ‘Azure Dragon in the Sleeve,’ is famous far and wide. Even though this isn’t my first time seeing it, every time I do, I’m left in awe,” a young disciple gulped.

Zhenlong Abyss was filled with countless magical beasts. Along the way, Eric Dawson and Jack had slain many beasts even stronger than the golden-eyed python.

Suddenly, a young disciple asked, “Senior Brother Yan, what’s that?”

Eric Dawson looked up and saw a flash of white light on a cliff shrouded in black mist in the distance, moving even faster than the golden-eyed python.

“That’s a Light Spirit Cat,” Eric Dawson glanced at it and then looked away. “Harmless and beneficial.”

Everyone was stunned. Jack, standing beside Eric Dawson, grinned widely and said, “The environment in Zhenlong Abyss is harsh, and most of the magical beasts are violent and ferocious. But the Light Spirit Cat is an exception.”

“Though small, it’s quite strong, and especially fast—like lightning, far beyond the ordinary. But it’s gentle by nature, not aggressive at all, and even a vegetarian, feeding on several kinds of spiritual herbs unique to Zhenlong Abyss.”

Jack pointed at the flickering white light. “What’s more, this beast is intelligent and kind-hearted. It will actively rescue people in distress within Zhenlong Abyss. If you ever enter the abyss alone and get trapped, you might just be saved by this creature and get a second chance at life.”

Ethan Clark, Alice Warren, and the others all clicked their tongues in wonder at this, feeling a fondness for the creature, and moved closer to where the Light Spirit Cat was.

The flickering white light now came to a stop, revealing its true form—a tiny kitten, no bigger than a palm, with delicate white light patterns shimmering all over its body, both soft and lively.

The Light Spirit Cat was also curiously observing the group from Guangcheng Mountain.

Some of the female disciples, finding it interesting, tried to approach, but the Light Spirit Cat retreated. When the girls stopped, the kitten stopped as well.

“Senior Brother Yan, can we keep this kitten?” One of the girls retreated to Eric Dawson’s side and asked pitifully.

Eric Dawson thought for a moment and said, “When we were traveling through Zhenlong Abyss earlier, you all collected some Snake-tongue Grass, right? The Light Spirit Cat loves that stuff. You can give it a try.”

“This cat is intelligent. As long as you mean no harm, it will be willing to get close to you. But if you want to take it out of Zhenlong Abyss, you’ll have to put in a lot more effort.”

The girl cheered, “Thank you, Senior Brother! I’ll give it a try.”

With that, she carefully took out a few stalks of spiritual herbs from her bag and walked toward the Light Spirit Cat.

After the initial wariness and getting acquainted, the girl and the cat gradually became familiar with each other.

Seeing this, several other disciples from Guangcheng Mountain also took out Snake-tongue Grass to feed and play with the kitten. For a while, the little cat was showered with everyone’s affection.

Even those who had no intention of joining in just watched the scene with smiles.

The Light Spirit Cat, turning into a streak of white light, darted through the canyon, running and stopping, with the girl chasing after it. For a moment, the usually menacing Zhenlong Abyss seemed a little less gloomy.

After passing a few cliffs in the canyon, they saw a huge boulder in the distance, with a person lying on it, shrouded in black mist, seemingly on the verge of death, as if about to be swallowed by the darkness at any moment.

The female disciple from Guangcheng Mountain was startled, but then saw a flash of white light—the Light Spirit Cat appeared. After observing cautiously for a moment, it approached the person lying on the boulder.

Remembering what Eric Dawson and Jack had said, the girl felt reassured.

She saw the tiny Light Spirit Cat walk up, grab the person’s collar in its mouth, and with a strong flick of its neck, actually managed to drag the person—truly small in size but surprisingly strong.

But just then, the youth who had seemed on the verge of death suddenly reached out and grabbed the Light Spirit Cat by the neck, then flipped over and sat up.

The Light Spirit Cat let out a sharp cry and struggled desperately, but the youth just laughed loudly, “The method Senior Brother taught really works! If not for this, I’d never have caught this little thing that’s as fast as a grandmaster!”

The female disciple from Guangcheng Mountain was startled. “What are you doing?”

The youth turned his head and said carelessly, “What’s it to you?”

The girl frowned and said, “The Light Spirit Cat thought you were in trouble and tried to save you out of kindness, but you pretended to be in danger just to catch it?”
