Edward Lewis held Grace Young's corpse and flew to the place where they first met. The Cangshan Mountains remained unchanged, and she lay quietly in his arms, but he could no longer see those eyes of hers that once resembled a vengeful goddess. This was the beginning, so let it also be the end. After all his journeys, he had returned to where he started. Edward Lewis felt that this, too, was a kind of fulfillment. He hoped that this kind and lovely girl, who had suffered so much, could have a happy ending in her next life.
Chapter Twelve
It had been half a month since Grace Young's death, and Edward Lewis still didn't want to do anything. He only told his parents that he had persuaded Grace Young to continue her studies; he didn't dare tell them about Grace Young's death. He often sat there in a daze, holding the "Pangu Axe" that Grace Young had left him. Now, the only thing that interested him at all was studying the "Pangu Axe."
Although half a month had passed, he had only just begun to grasp the basic usage of the "Pangu Axe." The vast and complex immortal formations within it still left him completely clueless. But with his current cultivation, combined with the supreme power of the "Pangu Axe," he believed that even Samuel Grant could be defeated by him—its power could rival that of a heavenly tribulation, and he was confident that no one in the cultivation world could withstand it.
At night, he continued his cultivation as usual. As the boundless dark energy spread out, Edward Lewis's heart became deeply immersed in this sensation. His divine sense radiated outward, slowly covering the entire neighborhood. He was still trying to see just how far he could sense now. His divine sense continued to expand, seeping farther and farther away like mercury. He pushed his divine sense even further, when suddenly he sensed six extremely hostile forces rushing toward him. As soon as they made contact, they crashed violently into his divine sense. Edward Lewis had no way to dodge; his divine sense trembled, and he spat out a mouthful of blood. He withdrew his divine sense, and with a flicker of his body, he was already on the rooftop. The six figures were closing in on him, following the direction of his retreating divine sense.
They were fellow disciples of Quentin—Edward Lewis understood this at first glance. The same clothes, the same style; they were definitely from the same sect. He just didn't know whose cultivation was deeper compared to Quentin.
The six Daoists stood in a row, and the one in the middle spoke first: "I am Emei's Vernon. Quentin the young Daoist is my disciple." He then pointed to the others and introduced them to Edward Lewis one by one: "This is my third senior brother, Victor, whose cultivation far surpasses ours. You should be careful of him. This is my fifth junior brother, Vernon; this is my sixth junior brother, Vance; seventh junior brother, Vernon; and eighth junior brother, Vincent." After he finished, Edward Lewis finally spoke: "You came because of Quentin, right?" Vernon replied, "At first, yes, we came for my disciple. But after seeing you, things are not so simple." Edward Lewis nodded and said, "I understand. People like you from the righteous path can't tolerate me. Let's settle things one by one. Yes, I killed Quentin, but I had my reasons."
Edward Lewis told them how Quentin died. The six looked at each other, and Vernon spoke again: "There's nothing more to say. We came here for revenge. Quentin was not skilled enough and failed to uphold justice, dying at the hands of a demon. So now, we old fellows have to come. Hah! Watch my 'Seven Treasures Heavenly Book'!" In midair, a giant scroll unfurled, casting a beam of purple light down on Edward Lewis. Edward Lewis felt his whole body tighten as a tremendous suction force pulled him toward the "Seven Treasures Heavenly Book." He struggled fiercely, and with a crash, the purple light shattered into a shower of stardust, falling in a dazzling display. Vernon was shocked—breaking a magical artifact's power with sheer physical strength was unheard of in the cultivation world. Fortunately, he had brought several senior and junior brothers with him this time; if he had come alone, the outcome would have been uncertain.
The others, seeing Edward Lewis easily break free from the "Seven Treasures Heavenly Book," exchanged glances and saw a trace of surprise in each other's eyes. Then, with tacit understanding, they quickly spread out and surrounded Edward Lewis. Seeing his brothers encircle Edward Lewis, Vernon felt reassured. He put away the "Seven Treasures Heavenly Book" and summoned his own "Ronghuo Sword." All the brothers had immortal swords as their life-bound treasures, and among all magical weapons, flying swords were the most powerful. Vernon formed a hand seal, and the "Ronghuo Sword" shot out a streak of red light toward Edward Lewis. The other five, seeing Vernon had already attacked, also summoned their flying swords and attacked Edward Lewis together. Six beams of light shot at Edward Lewis from different angles, making him curse, "Ganging up on one, shameless scoundrels!" Vernon and the others blushed, realizing that with their status in the righteous cultivation world, it was indeed shameful for six of them to gang up on a junior. Their hands hesitated, and a gap appeared in their encirclement. Edward Lewis seized the opportunity and leapt out of their siege.
