Before he crossed over, he was a typical homebody youth. Although he had a job, the whole point of working was so that he wouldn’t have to work. Naturally, his favorite things were games, anime, manga, and novels. As for those novels he just mentioned, he had read countless ones. For a moment, he even began to doubt reality, wondering if he had already been killed by some advanced civilization and had his brain extracted—had he become a brain in a vat?
Yet the more critical the situation became, the calmer he grew. His steps didn’t falter in the slightest, nor did his expression change at all. He simply walked steadily toward the pillar of light. When he reached the pillar, there were still about three or four seconds left before the time the voice had warned him about. He deliberately slowed down, even planning to bend down and tie his shoelaces. He wanted to see what would happen if he endured past these thirty seconds. If it was really just someone’s prank, then after thirty seconds, the truth would be revealed.
Unexpectedly, just as he was about to bend down to stall for a few seconds, before he could even do so, a tremendous terror struck his heart. Without thinking, he immediately stepped into the pillar of light, without a moment’s hesitation.
“I’ll die. I’ll definitely die. If I delay past these thirty seconds, I’ll definitely die!”
That inexplicable feeling, along with the overwhelming terror just now, made Henry Clark certain of this. It was a power beyond his imagination, leaving him with not even a shred of resistance—he could only close his eyes and wait for death.
After crossing over to this prehistoric continent for several months, Henry Clark hadn’t just been lazing around every day. The novelty of arriving in a new place, combined with his own caution due to the circumstances of his crossing, led him to investigate things online, confirm and train his own abilities, and wander around the towns near his home. Through all this, he had already confirmed quite a few things.
This world was one where technology and the extraordinary coexisted. Technology had advanced to the point of artificial virtual worlds, antimatter energy reactors, artificial network divinities, and so on. The extraordinary was even more astonishing. However, while technology was available to the masses, extraordinary power was concentrated in individuals, so its regulation was much stricter. So far, Henry Clark had only found information about the tiers of power progression and the ultimate structure of the power system.
Although there were hundreds or thousands of types of power on the prehistoric continent, they ultimately fell into two main categories. One was based on the unique human gene lock, which could fuse with almost any other power—be it bloodlines, psychic power, spiritual bodies, and so on. There were five tiers; with each gene lock opened, one’s power would increase exponentially. The highest was the fifth-tier gene lock. Those who achieved this were called Saints, the pinnacle of the extraordinary system.
The other main category was cultivation. But this cultivation was not the mysterious kind found in the novels Henry Clark had read, nor was it about seeking the false to cultivate the true. Instead, it was about cultivating the real. This was why Henry Clark’s new body after crossing over had to take the college entrance exam. The prehistoric Heavenly Court government was open and just: as long as you had talent, you could choose any power system you wanted. From elementary school, students were taught scientific knowledge, and cultivation and science were actually interconnected. Once you finished the college entrance exam and passed, you could enter any of the major academies for further study. The three most famous academies were Taiqing Academy, Yuqing Academy, and Shangqing Academy.
Cultivation required learning techniques, but the main function of these techniques was to improve memory, logic, reasoning, calculation, and so on, then integrate scientific knowledge to perfect oneself. It was also divided into several major stages: Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, Nascent Soul, and so on. The highest stage was on par with Saints and was called Immortal.
Henry Clark himself was at the first-tier gene lock, not yet fused with any bloodline, but he had learned the Shangqing Battle Fist and was close to reaching Foundation Establishment in true force. Well, not quite Foundation Establishment yet, so it couldn’t be called true essence, but it could be called true force.
Over these months, he had evaluated his own combat power. If he returned to Earth, he could kill five hundred people armed with ordinary firearms, or fifty to a hundred with military-grade weapons. Of course, he still couldn’t face heavy weapons or special forces head-on, and he was almost defenseless against long-range sniping.
But this level of combat power was already extremely impressive—basically a simplified Superman template. He could jump fifteen meters high, run a hundred meters in about six seconds, his maximum punch speed was close to the speed of sound, he had true force protecting his body, small civilian firearms couldn’t harm him, and his reaction speed was nearly twice that of an ordinary person. In modern Earth society, as long as he was careful, such power would be enough to overturn some small African countries.
But now, under that terrifying pressure, he felt like an ant.
Henry Clark was unable to resist and stepped into the pillar of light. As soon as he entered, he immediately felt his body was completely out of his control, his thoughts became hazy and chaotic, and he fell into a state between dream and wakefulness, unable to sense anything around him...
“Why choose him? What’s special about him? How did he earn your favor?”
