“You’re the idiot—your whole family are idiots.”
Brian Carter didn’t want to stoop to the level of a brat, but when someone refuses to show respect, you can’t just let it slide.
“You son of a bitch…” The squinty-eyed youth never expected Brian Carter to talk back, and felt especially humiliated in front of his friends.
Brian Carter had always been dull and slow, never resisting no matter how much he was beaten or scolded.
The squinty-eyed youth was used to bullying him, so in his anger, he raised his hand to strike without thinking.
“Smack—”
Before the squinty-eyed youth’s hand could touch Brian Carter, Brian Carter’s right hand had already whipped the scabbard across his face.
The broadsword weighed over ten pounds, and the scabbard was made of fine ebony. Even though Brian Carter held back his strength, the blow still left the squinty-eyed youth’s face swollen and stunned.
“Ah…” After a moment of shock, the squinty-eyed youth finally let out a miserable scream. Both frightened and furious, he clutched his face and shouted, “Even my dad’s never hit me, and you dare hit me? Brothers, get him! If anything happens, I’ll take the blame!”
The squinty-eyed youth’s father was a second-rank martial artist, well-known in the Tielin tribe. Relying on his father’s reputation, he’d gathered a few followers and often got up to no good.
With his shout, the other boys felt too embarrassed to just stand by.
Besides, it was just beating up a fool—how hard could that be? They just had to be careful not to kill him.
After all, his aunt Lin was a fierce woman. If they really killed him, everyone would be in trouble.
All the boys were half a head taller than Brian Carter. They surrounded him, blocking any escape.
The squinty-eyed youth shouted excitedly, “That sword of his looks nice—let’s take it and play with it…”
“I’m in a good mood, so you’d better not mess with me. When I get angry, even I’m scared of myself…”
Brian Carter said with a straight face.
The boys couldn’t help but laugh—this fool had changed, and his words were even more ridiculous now.
“You moron!”
The tallest and strongest boy cursed and made the first move. He was afraid Brian Carter would fight back, so he raised both hands to protect his face.
Brian Carter found it funny—sure, his opponent was guarding his face, but his chest and stomach were wide open. What good would that do?
These boys had all trained in martial arts, but none had real combat experience. Even if they were much stronger than Brian Carter physically, in front of him, all they could do was take a beating.
Brian Carter feinted, and the boy quickly ducked his head. Brian Carter dropped the scabbard, striking the boy right in the soft spot.
“Ugh…” The boy couldn’t catch his breath, his face turning bright red as he stood frozen in place.
Brian Carter took the chance to step forward, circling around him, and casually jabbed the scabbard backward, hitting another boy square in the chest.
With that heavy blow, the boy burst into tears and snot, clutching his chest as he slowly knelt down. The pain, unlike anything he’d ever felt, instantly shattered his will to fight.
Only one boy remained unscathed, but he stared at Brian Carter as if he’d seen a ghost, not daring to make a move.
The squinty-eyed youth, who had been shouting from the side, was also dumbfounded and couldn’t utter another word.
Brian Carter glared fiercely and said, “From now on, every time I see you, I’ll beat you. Now, get lost.”
The boys were even more stunned—when did the fool become so domineering?
Brian Carter swung the scabbard again, landing another blow on the squinty-eyed youth’s face. “Still not leaving? Didn’t I hit you hard enough?”
The squinty-eyed youth screamed again and hurriedly turned to run. The fool was acting way too strange today—he was genuinely scared.
The other boys also scrambled away in a panic.
Teaching those boys a lesson had no effect on Brian Carter at all. Kind people get bullied. Brian Carter didn’t like bullying others, but he liked being bullied even less.
In his previous life, he was a warrior who only cared about results and never minded the means.
While Brian Carter was teaching the boys a lesson, quite a few people were watching the commotion nearby. Everyone clicked their tongues in amazement at Brian Carter’s change.
Many people coveted the broadsword, but in broad daylight, no one dared to snatch it openly.
After Brian Carter beat up a few boys, the others didn’t dare cause any more trouble.
Old Reed’s house wasn’t far from the ancestral hall. Brian Carter soon arrived.
Old Reed’s place was a yard fenced with wooden planks. The main gate was half open, and you could faintly see people moving inside.
“Old Reed, business is here.”
Standing under the willow tree at the gate, Brian Carter called out loudly.
“You’re Gao Xiang’s son?” Old Reed heard the shout and slowly walked out of the yard. When he saw Brian Carter, a hint of confusion appeared on his dark, weathered face.
Though he rarely went out, he’d heard about Gao Xiang’s son becoming a fool. At the time, he’d sighed over it.
“That’s right,” Brian Carter replied casually, then added, “Old Reed, I’m here to slaughter a pig and stew some meat. I’ll give you a hind leg as payment.”
Even though the old man had called out Gao Xiang’s name and acted like an elder, Brian Carter didn’t care. If he were truly Gao Xiang’s friend, he wouldn’t have just watched him suffer.
Brian Carter didn’t blame him, though—everyone looks out for themselves, and that’s fine. But if you want to do business and still act superior, that’s just pointless.
Old Reed glanced at the black pig, muttering to himself, “Hope this fool didn’t steal it.”
But then he thought, this is a fat piece of meat delivered right to my door. Even if something happens, it won’t come back to me.
