Chapter 13

Miss Grace Miller was here, so he couldn’t use force. After thinking for a moment, he reluctantly said, “Fine, seven days from now, right in front of the sacrificial hall. If you dare trick me, I’ll chop you up and feed you to the wolves.”

Adam Steele put down his harsh words and was about to leave when Brian Carter called out, “Wait…”

“What exactly do you want?” Adam Steele turned around, his eyes reddening, anger almost bursting out of control.

“What if you lose?”

Brian Carter seemed not to notice Adam Steele’s twisted, ferocious face and asked seriously in return.

“How could I possibly lose!” Adam Steele grew even angrier. If it weren’t for Grace Miller being here, he would have smashed Brian Carter’s annoying face in.

“You just can’t afford to lose, can you?” Brian Carter mocked.

“Fine, if I lose, you can have whatever you want.” Adam Steele replied through gritted teeth.

“If you lose, just give me two fat pigs. What else could you possibly offer?”

Brian Carter waved dismissively. “Alright, you can go now.”

Adam Steele wanted to say more, but Brian Carter cut him off. Not being good with words, and now even angrier, he couldn’t get anything out.

“Bang…” Nearly suffocated with rage, Adam Steele punched the broken wooden door hard, leaving a big hole in it.

Clenching his bloodied fist, Adam Steele walked away without looking back.

“This little brat, what’s he taking his anger out on my door for…”

After Adam Steele left, Old Reed popped out, cursing and grumbling, looking quite annoyed.

Brian Carter and Grace Miller ignored him. When Adam Steele barged in earlier, he hadn’t dared make a sound. Now that Adam Steele was gone, he was acting tough again.

Finding it boring, Old Reed went off to fuss with the braised meat.

Grace Miller said to Brian Carter, “Adam Steele was born with a strong physique. Even though he hasn’t opened his spiritual aperture yet, his strength is already on par with a first-rank martial artist.”

Her voice was as cold and clear as ever, her deep blue eyes bright and calm, showing no trace of worry or concern, nor any hint of blaming Brian Carter for acting on his own.

It seemed she was simply stating a fact, with no other intention.

Brian Carter nodded and said, “I’m not afraid of him.”

Grace Miller looked deeply at Brian Carter, as if trying to see through to his innermost thoughts.

Brian Carter wore a smile, his amber eyes shining with confidence and composure. This made Grace Miller feel a bit unfamiliar with him.

She lowered her gaze and said, “I’m heading back.”

“Thanks for your help today.” Brian Carter said earnestly.

Brian Carter could handle Adam Steele, but with just a word from Grace Miller, she saved him a lot of effort and bought him precious time.

Especially in such a treacherous environment, Grace Miller’s help was all the more valuable.

Brian Carter was truly grateful for Grace Miller’s help.

“Oh right, since you’re here, why not try some braised meat? Old Reed’s cooking isn’t bad.”

Brian Carter invited warmly.

Old Reed hurried over as well, grinning obsequiously, “Yes, yes, Priestess Yue, please have a taste…”

Grace Miller shook her head slightly and walked straight out.

Brian Carter waved, watching her leave.

Old Reed followed behind Grace Miller, nodding and bowing, seeing her off for quite a distance.

Brian Carter ignored him, found himself a rough clay bowl, and fished out two big pieces of meat from the pot.

The pork simmered in the old broth had a reddish sheen on the skin, with clear layers of fat and lean, and a rich aroma.

Just looking at such meat was enough to whet one’s appetite.

For a young man who’d long been underfed, this was the best delicacy in the world.

Brian Carter took a big bite, and the hot, savory juices filled his mouth. The texture of the pork and the rich fat completely satisfied his taste buds.

He barely chewed before the meat slid down into his stomach.

In just a few bites, the two pieces of meat, each over a pound, were gone.

“Wow…”

Brian Carter let out a long, satisfied sigh. These two pieces of fatty meat made him feel happiness and joy.

If it were in his previous life, Brian Carter wouldn’t have even glanced at such fatty meat. But here, it was undoubtedly the highest enjoyment.

With something in his stomach, Brian Carter began to chew and swallow more slowly.

Wolfing down food like that wasn’t good for the body.

“So, how about it? My cooking’s not bad, right!”

Old Reed boasted proudly from the side.

Brian Carter curled his lip slightly, “It’s just passable.” He wasn’t deliberately belittling him; this level of cooking really wasn’t much.

If it were in his previous life, he wouldn’t have bothered to look at such coarse braised meat.

Old Reed was a bit displeased, rolling his old eyes and saying, “The door’s been broken, you have to pay me back.”

“Not my problem.” Brian Carter dismissed Old Reed’s demand with disdain.

“My door was broken because of you. Who else should I ask?”

Old Reed walked up to Brian Carter with a sullen face, shouting at him in annoyance.

Chapter 7: The Crane Tribe Beauty

Grace Miller had left, Adam Steele had left, and Old Reed wasn’t afraid of Brian Carter. With such an excuse, of course he wouldn’t let it go.

Brian Carter casually put down the big bowl, wiped his hands on his tattered vest, and asked nonchalantly, “What did you say?”

“Don’t play dumb. You at least have to compensate me with twenty pounds of meat!”
