Chapter 2

Fortunately, Mom didn’t stop him from drinking today, so the whole family happily sat down together. Ryan Clark had already finished his meal, and his little sister couldn’t wait to grab a big piece of rib and gnaw on it, her teeth crunching on the bone with a squeaking sound. This always amazed Ryan Clark—his sister especially loved sweets, so much so that Mom had to limit her, yet her teeth were perfectly straight and strong. It just didn’t make sense.

“Son, don’t just be so honest every day, only knowing how to work overtime at the company. You still need to think about the important things in life.”

Mom had only eaten a little before she intentionally or unintentionally brought up this topic.

“Here we go again…”

Ryan Clark immediately groaned inwardly. In fact, he’d purposely come home late to avoid this topic.

He was only twenty-four now, but his parents were already urging him to find a partner. According to them, at twenty-four, wasn’t his nominal age almost thirty?

But, he really didn’t have a girlfriend right now…

“That’s right, you’re not that young anymore. We should be having grandkids by now…”

Dad quickly chimed in, clearly interested in the topic. “So, is there no girl you like right now?”

“Don’t just hang out with Ethan all the time, that kid’s not exactly a good influence…”

“……”

“It’s just that I haven’t had the chance…”

Ryan Clark could barely lift his chopsticks.

“Hasn’t big brother always liked Little Ryan sis? Did you confess to her yet?”

His little sister took the opportunity to butt in, and shamelessly reached out her hand to Ryan Clark: “Give me a benefit and I’ll help you chase her.”

“Just eat your food.”

Ryan Clark picked up a piece of pork trotter for her, quickly stuffing her mouth.

His sister was talking about their neighbor Ryan Zane. She and Ryan Clark had grown up together, attended the same elementary and middle school, only going to different high schools. They used to play together all the time as kids, and now she was getting prettier and prettier. Quite a few neighbors often joked that they were like a little couple. Now she had graduated and was working as a kindergarten teacher. Ryan Clark still often ran into her downstairs, and sometimes their families would have meals together.

Even Dad and Mom’s eyes lit up when they heard Little Ryan’s name.

“I think Little Ryan is actually pretty nice…”

Mom nodded lightly. “She’s a bit stubborn, but she has a good heart and is very patient with children.”

Dad nodded repeatedly. “If she’s stubborn, you just need to give in to her more. Look at me…”

Mom shot him a glare, and he immediately lowered his head to eat.

“Don’t get any ideas. Little Ryan and I are too close, it feels just like having a little sister.”

Ryan Clark saw them getting carried away and felt so embarrassed he could barely eat, quickly explaining, “There’s just no spark, we couldn’t be together!”

Dad and Mom exchanged a glance, both looking a bit helpless.

Only his little sister broke the awkward silence loudly, solemnly declaring, “You only have me as your little sister!”

“Alright, alright…”

Ryan Clark could only agree, relieved that the topic had finally passed.

But clearly, Dad and Mom weren’t planning to let him off so easily, and continued to press: “If there’s nothing with Little Ryan, what about someone else?”

“You’re at the company every day, haven’t you met anyone you like?”

“……”

“Someone I like…”

Ryan Clark paused for a moment, and actually thought of a girl.

Her name was Henry Hall, from the HR department. She was gentle and pretty, and quite a few people at the company had a crush on her. Ryan Clark had interacted with her a few times for work. Previously, during a company team-building event, he happened to be in the same group as Henry Hall. The two of them worked together really well during the games, exchanged contact info afterward, and it felt like they had a pretty good impression of each other.

But, nothing really happened after that…

Normally, after two people meet, they’d go on a few dates, get to know each other, and if there’s a spark, break through that final barrier.

But after he met Henry Hall…

…he’d just been busy with projects ever since!

“Look at that reaction…”

Mom was very sharp, exchanging a glance with Dad. “So you have someone in mind at the company?”

Dad immediately looked over expectantly. If Ryan Clark said yes, he’d celebrate with a drink right away.

After raising a pig for so many years, if it doesn’t finally go root around in the cabbage patch, it’s just worrying…

…especially since he’s always hanging out with that kid Ethan. What if he really picks up bad habits!

“No, no…”

Ryan Clark quickly shook his head.

There wasn’t even a hint of anything yet. If he let slip even a little, they’d dig up everything about Henry Hall’s family history.

“Sigh…”

The whole family sighed, and Mom looked a bit worried. “You’re already this old and still haven’t found someone. What are you going to do in the future?”

“If it really doesn’t work out, you should go on a blind date. I heard from a friend in psychiatry that she has a daughter named Grace Wood, and their family is also worried about finding her a match lately…”

“……”

“I’ve heard you mention her.”

Dad thought for a moment and said, “That girl isn’t very old, right? Just graduated from high school not long ago?”
