Chapter 5

The host can choose whether to accept the event: “A Stunning Performance?”

Chapter 0003: How Can One Be Stunning?

At the very bottom of the screen, two options appeared: Yes or No.

Looking at the content of this triggered event, Brian Carter’s mouth twitched: “Is it really this straightforward? Even though everyone knows it’s just for show, saying it outright is a bit too harsh! And the reason I was chosen is actually this! But honestly, aside from putting on a show, I really can’t see any other possibility…”

Brian Carter had thought that the previous owner of this body was just lucky, but now… it seems this guy’s luck wasn’t that great either. Apparently, he died from overindulgence and was possessed, and the so-called ‘lucky’ event that caused all this was just someone wanting to use this situation for show.

“Using the English spelling of my surname, which is the same as the team name, to attract the attention of our country’s basketball fans? Jealous of how much money the Rockets made? And even if it doesn’t attract much attention, there’s no loss—it’s just a so-called charity event anyway…”

Brian Carter wasn’t an idiot. In his previous life, he managed to get into a top university under tough circumstances, finish his studies, get a bachelor’s degree, and find a job to support himself. Of course, he was pretty smart, and it was easy for him to guess the Suns’ “show” strategy.

Should he accept or not?

Brian Carter was very curious about what would happen if he accepted. No one would give up on getting a system, and Brian Carter didn’t know when the next event like this would be triggered…

“Accept!” Brian Carter was firm in this decision.

The content on the screen began to change…

“C-level event: Stunning Performance triggered. Congratulations to the host for receiving the newbie gift pack…”

“Stunning Performance… Can’t you be a little less blunt?” Brian Carter was speechless at the name of this mission.

“C-level event: Stunning Performance: The host must impress the Suns’ head coach Alvin Gentry during the tryout, gain Alvin Gentry’s appreciation, and get Alvin Gentry to give the host more playing time in a meaningless season finale, giving the host a chance to deliver a stunning performance in the Suns’ final game of the season, making this show the host’s shining debut. Mission rewards: Vitality Enhancement Card, one C-level lottery card.”

“Vitality Enhancement Card: Makes up for the host’s physical deficiencies caused by years of overindulgence. Under specified conditions of diet and exercise, it can accelerate nutrient absorption, restore the host’s body to its proper state, and has a certain probability of remodeling bodily functions, resulting in some improvement in physical fitness.”

The mission itself was pretty serious, but the rewards were a bit less so—though they were exactly what Brian Carter wanted! As for that C-level lottery card, there was no explanation, and Brian Carter had no idea what it was. Even asking didn’t get any response.

But the Vitality Enhancement Card… Brian Carter really wanted it!

As a man, how could he tolerate kidney deficiency!

But… what exactly counts as a stunning tryout? And how could he deliver a stunning performance in an official NBA game?

This was an impossible task.

From his memories, Brian Carter knew his physique was pretty good, but he wasn’t exactly a hard worker. After being surrounded by girls, he basically became a human pile driver…

Originally, he might have had a chance to get into the NCAA. Although making it to the NCAA doesn’t mean much—there are four or five thousand NCAA players in the US every year, and at most about 50 make it to the NBA—but getting into the NCAA, in America’s basketball hotbed, at least means you have some skill.

But over the past year, according to his memories, aside from maintaining his physique and picking up girls at the gym near the school, he hadn’t really cared about sports. Sleeping with American girls was so much fun, his predecessor had no intention of pursuing a sports career. In reality, even if he had a chance to get into the NCAA, there wouldn’t be much of a future. Ninety percent of NCAA athletes only see sports as a dream, not as a profession.

And… it was only at the beginning that he was considered to have a chance. At any NCAA school, there are plenty of students who have a shot at making the team.

Moreover, the school Brian Carter attended wasn’t even a Division I NCAA school, so the bar was naturally lower.

Brian Carter felt he really didn’t have what it takes to impress an NBA head coach, let alone deliver a stunning performance in an NBA game.

“Oh right, there’s also the newbie gift pack!”

As soon as Brian Carter thought of this, the system interface returned to the main screen, and among the previously grayed-out, unnamed options, a new “Items” icon appeared.

Opening the items section, Brian Carter saw an option labeled “Newbie Gift Pack.”

He silently thought “open,” and the screen changed, revealing two new options.

“A-level card: A-level Random Star Experience Card (Rare Card); Learning Module: Humility; B-level card: Periodic Burst.”

“A-level card, B-level card?” Brian Carter was a bit surprised—so there was this kind of thing.

“Guess it’s the same as the comprehensive evaluation levels. That lottery card also has levels, meaning different level lottery cards can draw rewards of the same level?” Sure enough, at the top of the items section, Brian Carter saw similar levels.

But there was a different label.

“A-level and above item cards are extremely rare, classified as rare items. Star Experience Cards are top-tier rare items and the hardest to obtain.”

Brian Carter took a look at the A-level Random Star Experience Card.
