Chapter 17

Chapter 4 David Wright (Part 2)

Upon entering the room, the other party took out a pill contained in a jade bottle.

"This is the pill I want to have appraised, young man, give it a try."

Mike Sullivan nodded, turned, and walked into the quiet chamber. He had tested pills before, but not many, because for most pills, there was no need to seek out an appraiser—just ask an alchemist, and the alchemist could identify what kind of pill it was.

The pills brought for appraisal were usually very rare, and because they were rare, even many alchemists couldn't determine what kind of pill they were.

As soon as the jade bottle was opened, a refreshing fragrance rapidly spread throughout the room, instantly making anyone who smelled it feel a wave of comfort.

Mike Sullivan controlled his spiritual power to enter the pill. As soon as his spiritual power began to probe, he immediately frowned—this pill had a very strong repelling force.

A strong repelling force meant either the item being appraised was of a very special quality, or it had existed for a very long time, naturally developing resistance to spiritual power.

Last time, the repelling force of the Water-Avoiding Pearl was already very strong, but this pill's repelling force was even stronger than that.

Strengthening his spiritual power once more, Mike Sullivan's spiritual power finally entered the pill completely. At the same time, an image appeared in his mind.

In a large room, a person with a blurred face—whose appearance couldn't be clearly seen—threw one indistinct medicinal herb after another into a nearby pill furnace. This person kept refining, and after a long time, the pill was finally completed.

Seeing this, Mike Sullivan felt a wave of dizziness in his mind. He quickly withdrew his spiritual power, rested for a breath or two, and then controlled his spiritual power to enter again.

  Outside the room.

The visitor looked toward the direction of the secret chamber, feeling very puzzled. Why had that kid been inside for so long without coming out? Normally, the appraisal should have been finished by now.

An appraiser's spiritual power was limited; very few could persist for such a long time. What exactly was that kid doing in the room?

Inside the room, images related to the pill kept appearing in Mike Sullivan's mind. Finally, a scene of the pill being auctioned at an auction house appeared.

"Life-Seizing Pill, a miraculous healing medicine that can snatch life from the heavens. No matter how severe the injury, even if only a single breath remains, as long as there is a Life-Seizing Pill, the person can be saved."

In the room outside the quiet chamber, Mike Sullivan recited the information he had seen about the Life-Seizing Pill.

He actually managed to appraise it!

The visitor stared blankly at the youthful-looking boy before him. He had come here out of desperation, having only heard that the appraiser here was very skilled, and decided to give it a try. Who would have thought that this boy would actually identify a treasure!

So many veteran appraisers had failed to identify this treasure, yet this boy had succeeded—and he was so young. This youth's future was limitless!

"It's actually a Heaven-Seizing Pill? Haha, I searched high and low for such a treasure, only to find it right in my own hands without any effort. I was racking my brains trying to find something like this, but it turns out I already had one." The other party fixed his eyes on Mike Sullivan, speaking with genuine gratitude: "Young man, I truly thank you. The saying 'there are hidden masters among the people' is absolutely true.

Before coming here, I went to the most skilled appraisers at the auction house in town, but none of them could identify this treasure. Yet in your hands, you appraised it so quickly—young man, you are truly remarkable."

After praising Mike Sullivan a few times, the visitor suddenly changed his tone and said seriously, "Young man, with your appraisal skills, why not seek a future in town? After all, there are more opportunities and higher income there. If you're interested, I can recommend you to work as a dedicated appraiser at the town's auction house."

He had been about to give up when the person inside took so long to come out, but who would have thought the other party was actually appraising a treasure.

So, the reason he took so long was because he was truly appraising a treasure.

Even in town, only the branch president of the Appraisers' Guild would have such spiritual power. But the branch president is so much older, and this youth before him is so young!

"Well..." Mike Sullivan thought for a moment, then shook his head. "I appreciate your kindness, but there are people in this village I want to protect. For now, I have no plans to leave."

Seeing the determination in Mike Sullivan's eyes, the other party did not press further. At this moment, Mike Sullivan suddenly seemed to remember something and said, "By the way, you haven't paid me the appraisal fee yet. Now that you know the value of this pill, you should also understand the difficulty of the appraisal. We appraisers charge different fees depending on the treasure. Because of the difficulty in appraising this treasure, I will need to charge you two hundred taels of silver as the appraisal fee."
