Chapter 3

Brian Whitman thought to himself, is it fate that I am destined to develop another superstar center?

For Brian Whitman, who has studied basketball intensively for over forty years, what does height mean? In basketball, height is the most precious talent, and judging from Eric Bennett's coordination, he's definitely not just a clumsy big guy. Brian Whitman still remembers that when Eric Bennett was still a "little guy," his shooting was quite good.

Although Eastern players have always been somewhat average in terms of jumping and physicality, what if he were developed in the direction of Nowitzki? In the NCAA, who could possibly block the shot of a seven-footer?

If his mobility is decent, then what about pick-and-rolls with Stephen?

What does Davidson College need most right now?

Of course, it's a pick-and-roll partner for Curry. And what could be a better screen-setter in the pick-and-roll than a seven-footer?

Brian Whitman suddenly felt extremely delighted.

Back in the dorm, Eric Bennett almost bumped his head—he was no longer the little guy from a month ago. Although his frame was still a bit thin, his height was now a solid 2.13 meters. In front of him, Curry actually looked rather petite...

"Oh my God, Lin, how did the test results turn out?" Seeing Eric Bennett return, Stephen Curry asked nervously, his still-childish baby face full of concern.

Eric Bennett pretended to sob, then slumped down in despair. "Stephen... I... I might not be able to watch you play in the NBA..."

Stephen Curry felt like his world was collapsing. Was it because of his own complaints and greed that the almighty God was going to punish his friend? Tears immediately streamed down his adorable baby face. Stephen first recalled all the moments he and Eric Bennett had shared over the past half year—their one-on-one games (though Eric Bennett never won), their three-point contests (he still owed Eric Bennett three bottles of Coke), and their time playing 2K together (though he never won)...

Suddenly, Stephen clenched his fist. "Don't worry, Lin. I'm going to the NBA next year. I'll have money. I promise I'll take you to see a doctor and get you cured..."

"It's a terminal illness, Stephen." Eric Bennett put on a very sad expression.

"Oh, no! No! No!" Stephen Curry and Eric Bennett hugged each other and cried...

A few minutes later, Eric Bennett really couldn't stand his clothes anymore. If Curry kept crying like this, his shirt would be ruined—mainly because the guy kept wiping his nose on it...

"Alright, Stephen, the test results are out. Everything is normal. The doctor said this might just be a sudden growth spurt. My bone age test shows I might grow to 221 centimeters in the next year or two." Eric Bennett said seriously.

Stephen Curry's eyes widened, and even after seeing the hospital report, the "elementary schooler" still couldn't recover.

"So how do you feel now? In terms of movement, coordination, and everything?" Curry pressed.

"I secretly tried playing basketball yesterday. Honestly, it felt a bit weird—at first, it was like playing on stilts. But I swear, after ten or so minutes, I felt pretty good..." Eric Bennett replied.

  "For example?" Curry pressed again.

"For example, I can finally dunk now!" Eric Bennett added, "And it's really easy."

"Get lost!" Stephen Curry shot Eric Bennett a glare. The "elementary schooler" swore to God he would never set himself up for disappointment again.

"Also, Stephen, now when we play one-on-one, I feel like I can block you just by raising my hands. Want to try?" Eric Bennett wouldn't miss a rare chance to show off, especially in front of Curry.

Curry shook his head. "Oh no, God, just let this annoying guy get gigantism. I promise, I swear, I absolutely won't be sad!"

Though he said that, Curry was actually quite excited inside. That night, he really did go for a one-on-one with Eric Bennett. What shocked Stephen was that, aside from Eric Bennett's shooting being less stable due to the height change, his speed was nothing like those clumsy big men. And only then did Stephen Curry realize, he'd been so focused on Eric Bennett's height that he'd forgotten Eric Bennett's wingspan had also become terrifying...

Chapter 003: One-on-One Coaching

In the Davidson College gym, Eric Bennett became the center of attention. Although the basketball team members had already checked him out once before, only by standing next to him did they realize just how unbelievable it all was.

"Alright, I'm very happy that Lin is joining our team as a new member." Brian Whitman led the whole team in applauding to welcome Eric Bennett.

"Why is Anthony looking at me so strangely?" Eric Bennett lowered his head and asked Curry. Hmm, in the past, it was always Curry who had to look up to talk to him. Honestly, Eric Bennett still wasn't quite used to this.

"Because now you're his competitor. But I think, except for strength, he doesn't have any advantage over you." Curry said to Eric Bennett.
