Chapter 19

“The host has confirmed the selection. The host will receive a one-year adaptation period...”

By the time Eric Bennett woke up, it was already too late.

He had returned to ten years ago.

And all of this was real.

He was back in his high school days, ten years ago.

He saw his parents, who were still young at that time.

What surprised him even more was that the thing called the Number One Basketball Plug-in could be summoned at any time as long as he wished.

During this one-year transition period, he came to Davidson College, because Eric Bennett vaguely remembered that Stephen Curry was at this school...

And then everything developed to today.

Just as Eric Bennett was spacing out, his finger slid to the explanation section.

“Level corresponds to strength: Black Iron level equals the average NCAA college basketball standard, Bronze level equals NBA benchwarmer level, Silver level equals NBA weak team rotation level, Gold level equals NBA strong team rotation level or weak team starter level, Amethyst level equals NBA strong team starter level or weak team second-in-command, Diamond level equals NBA strong team star, All-Star level, Pink Diamond level equals superstar status.”

“Attention! Attention! The host is an all-position player. You must upgrade all position templates before entering the next stage. Only when all five positions reach Bronze level can you unlock the Silver stage promotion. Please improve your strength as soon as possible!”

Five positions, five templates, corresponding to which Eric Bennett could obtain five elite-level badges: Dream Shake for center, Rebounding Maniac for power forward, Ankle Breaker for small forward, Difficult Shots for shooting guard, and Limitless Range for point guard.

If upgrading each template grants the corresponding knowledge, skills, experience, and awareness for that position, then the badges are the perfect enhancement of professional skills.

For example, when Eric Bennett obtained the Bronze-level Ankle Breaker, that day he beat Curry one-on-one for the first time. Although Stephen was clearly going easy on him, that day, all kinds of dribbling techniques instantly flooded into his mind. The Bronze-level Ankle Breaker allows the player to gain NBA benchwarmer-level breakthrough skills and increases the chance of shaking off the defender’s balance. According to Eric Bennett’s research, this chance should be triggered about once every ten possessions.

“Sigh, I’d better upgrade the other positions to Bronze level as soon as possible!” Eric Bennett thought to himself.

NCAA games are by default considered Bronze level by the system. There’s still more than half the season left, and with March Madness, Eric Bennett believes he can definitely upgrade all positions to Bronze level. Having already tasted the benefits, Eric Bennett is well aware of the importance of leveling up.

You know, in the game against the Speed Team, the two three-pointers he missed were actually open shots, but with his current Black Iron level, he’s too easily affected by interference.

To put it another way, if Stephen Curry and Eric Bennett both shoot open shots in practice, Eric Bennett might not lose to Stephen Curry; after all, he often wins their three-point contests.

But if there’s defensive pressure, that’s a different story.

That insane accuracy is not just for show.

Chapter 014: The Big Chucker Eric Bennett

Davidson Wildcats’ next opponent, Brigham Young University, is a well-known weak team in the Southern Conference, not to mention the Wildcats are playing at home. This is destined to be a massacre...

Before the game, Eric Bennett asked Brian Whitman to let him play more minutes, since this was only his second game with the team. Brian Whitman agreed to Eric Bennett’s request. The experienced old coach didn’t notice the sly grin on Eric Bennett’s face after his request was granted.

“Stephen, look, now your scoring ability has already been recognized by NBA scouts. If you can get double-digit assists, the scouts will definitely see you in a new light.” After talking Brian Whitman into it, Eric Bennett went on to persuade Stephen Curry.

That baby face showed a look of sudden realization.

That’s right, NBA scouts often only look at the stats! If he could rack up double-digit assists, wouldn’t that be great?

But if Stephen Curry wants to pad his assist numbers, someone on the Wildcats has to score. Who else could it be?

So, in the second game of Eric Bennett’s career, he went wild and took 31 shots—24 two-pointers, making 11, and 7 three-pointers, making 3, plus three free throws, for a total of 34 points.

To be fair, 34 points on 31 shots isn’t exactly efficient, but it’s not too bad either. Plus, the opponent wasn’t strong. Brian Whitman felt that Eric Bennett needed more shots to help him adapt to the NCAA pace, so Eric Bennett had all sorts of reasons to keep shooting.

“My idol Kobe Bryant once said, even if you miss your first ten shots, you must resolutely take the eleventh!” With Eric Bennett’s help, Stephen Curry put up an all-around stat line of 20 points and 15 assists in this game.

The reason for Eric Bennett’s wild shooting was simple: currently, upgrading his five positions requires game appearances, but badges do not! You know, the reason Eric Bennett performed so well against the Speed Team was largely because he kept using the Bronze-level Ankle Breaker to bully Carter Deville.
