Chapter 14

For him now, a five-kilometer run was no longer a challenge; he could finish the whole distance in about twenty minutes, and that was without even going all out.

The second semester of senior year is the most stressful period for students facing the college entrance exam. Even during lunch, many students are doing practice problems while eating.

However, James Carter was quite relaxed. First, he didn’t care much about whether his exam results would be good or bad; second, all his thoughts were now focused on how to get revenge for Samuel.

His lunch was very simple: a bag of bread and two cartons of yogurt. Compared to the classmates around him who brought their own meals, what he ate could only be described as shabby.

“Hey, you’re eating this junk food again today?” The girl sitting in front of him turned her head, her already big eyes glaring at the bread and yogurt on his desk.

Her name was Benjamin Howard, the class monitor in James Carter’s class. She had excellent grades, was very pretty, and stood over 1.7 meters tall, with a slender and well-proportioned figure. Benjamin Howard was the definition of a beautiful girl, except her personality was quite tomboyish.

When she first started high school, she was already over 1.7 meters tall, which made her above average even among the boys at the time, and she was taller than James Carter back then. Besides being a top student, she was also an athlete at school. Don’t be fooled by her pretty looks—she was actually quite strong.

Once, she got into an argument with a boy in the class. The quarrel escalated, and they ended up fighting. To everyone’s shock, not only did she win, but she even made the boy cry.

She really did make him cry—she pinned him to the ground and beat him up. The incident caused quite a stir and became a legendary story among the students.

For a long time after that, Benjamin Howard was a force to be reckoned with at school; ordinary boys didn’t dare mess with her.

James Carter had also had a conflict with her before, though he couldn’t remember why. The only thing he remembered was that Benjamin Howard pushed him, and he stumbled back several steps, landing on his butt. It didn’t feel like a simple push—it was more like getting punched in the chest.

After that, he kept his distance from this “auntie.”

Now, Benjamin Howard was still over 1.7 meters tall, but James Carter had caught up to her in height. Of course, they were long past the age of fighting and roughhousing, but the memories from their first year of high school were still fresh, so he still tried to avoid her whenever possible.

Seeing Benjamin Howard’s scrutinizing gaze, James Carter flashed a toothy grin and said, “I’m used to it.”

Benjamin Howard curled her lips and muttered, “No wonder you look so skinny. The college entrance exam is coming up—you need to get more nutrition.”

“Class Monitor Howard, you make a good point. I am enlightened.” James Carter exaggeratedly nodded and bowed as he spoke.

Of course, Benjamin Howard could sense his aversion to her. Her good intentions were being taken the wrong way, so she snorted in annoyance and turned her head back angrily.

After a while, she straightened up, tilted her head back, and said in a charitable tone, “I brought too much food today. Want me to share some with you?”

After she finished speaking, there was no response from behind for a long time. She couldn’t help but turn around to look, but there was no one there. Looking further back, she saw James Carter picking up his bread and yogurt and heading out the back door of the classroom.

James Carter didn’t dare eat Benjamin Howard’s food. If they ever had another conflict, with her temper, she’d probably make him throw up everything he’d eaten from her.

James Carter left the classroom and went to the art room. That was a special classroom for students taking the art exam. There were only a few seniors, and only two or three were preparing for art school, so the art room was empty most of the time.

Sure enough, when James Carter entered the art room, it was empty. He closed the door tightly behind him, then jumped up to sit on a desk, munching on bread and sipping yogurt.

After eating for a while, he freed up one hand, took out his phone, and dialed a string of numbers.

Beep, beep.

The dial tone sounded for a while before someone finally picked up. A rough voice came through the receiver: “Hello? Who’s this?”

“Is this Brother Edward?” James Carter asked, his mouth full of bread, words muffled.

“That’s me. Who are you?”

“Oh, nothing, just checking.”

“Damn it, are you crazy? Where did you get my number…” Before he could finish cursing, James Carter hung up directly.

Chapter 8: Laying the Plan

After confirming that the number he got from Thomas Bolton was correct, James Carter sent several video screenshots from his phone.

These images were all taken from that secretly recorded video. The pictures were clear, showing Edward King’s face, scenes of him beating up Samuel Thompson, and even the moment he pushed Samuel Thompson down the stairs.

After sending the images, he put his phone aside, picked up his yogurt, and continued sipping leisurely.

After about five minutes, his phone rang.

James Carter picked up the phone, glanced at the caller ID, smiled, and answered the call.

“Hey, kid, what are these pictures you sent? What do you mean by this?”
