Chapter 16

He looked at Brian Carter with eyes full of admiration. Originally, he just wanted to test Brian Carter's knowledge to see if he knew these rare ancient seal script characters. Unexpectedly, Brian Carter not only knew them, but also provided a revolutionary understanding.

There was even one ancient seal character for which Brian Carter's interpretation was completely different from the mainstream view today. But after some deep thought and comparison, he felt that the previous understanding was completely wrong, and what Brian Carter said was actually correct.

“A genius, Brian Carter! I’ve read your file. Your martial arts skills are average, but that doesn’t matter. I can recommend you to the top ten universities’ ancient seal script research programs. It would be such a waste for a genius like you not to study ancient seal script!” Mr. Harris said repeatedly. Studying ancient seal script also requires talent—some people can guess the general meaning just by looking at the shape, while others can’t guess it no matter what. That’s the difference in talent.

Many students looked at Brian Carter in shock, especially those who clearly couldn’t get into the martial arts program—they looked at Brian Carter with even more envy. The top ten universities! Even though it’s a liberal arts major, anyone who graduates from one of the top ten universities becomes an elite in society.

Among them, it could be said that no one in the whole class could get into the top ten universities, and now Brian Carter had actually received a recommendation from Mr. Harris.

No one doubted its authenticity. Mr. Harris held a very high status at the school—even the principal had to respectfully address him as Mr. Harris. The principal had begged him to come out of retirement and return to teaching.

Everyone speculated that Mr. Harris must have a powerful background.

Olivia Turner looked at Brian Carter with even more dazzling eyes.

“This is a major discovery. Class, I won’t be teaching today—everyone, self-study!” Mr. Harris was still too excited to contain himself. In the end, he made up his mind, said this, and hurriedly left.

For a moment, the whole class was in an uproar. No one expected Mr. Harris to take this matter so seriously, and everyone kept glancing at Brian Carter.

This was the first time Brian Carter had ever been the center of attention. He had always been mediocre since childhood and had never been the focus of any group. Yet he remained calm—the memories of the Pill Emperor were influencing him, and he had seen far grander scenes in those memories. This was nothing.

The only thing that surprised him was that the usually aloof vice class monitor, Olivia Turner, actually walked up to him and said, “I didn’t expect you to know so much about ancient seal script, Brian Carter!”

“It’s nothing.”

Brian Carter smiled as he spoke. When it came to ancient seal script, he could handle it with ease, without the slightest effort.

After saying this, Olivia Turner turned and went back to her seat, reading the textbook on her tablet.

David Morgan looked at Olivia Turner and then at Brian Carter, a hint of malice flashing in his eyes.

“Not bad! I didn’t know you knew so much about ancient seal script!” Adam Cooper gave Brian Carter a heavy slap on the shoulder, feeling as if he was getting to know his best friend all over again.

Feeling the different looks from his classmates—some confused, some surprised, some sinister, and some kind—Brian Carter told himself that this was just the beginning.

In the afternoon, during martial arts class, the classroom for Class 11 of No. 13 High School was bustling with noise. Unlike the liberal arts classroom, the martial arts class was held in a large combat arena.

Every martial arts classroom was over a thousand square meters, divided into different areas according to function: a meditation area for sitting practice, and several small arenas for students to spar with each other.

In the corner of the meditation area, Brian Carter sat cross-legged, cherishing the last bit of time. He had just broken through to the sixth level last night, and he wanted to seize the time to break through to the seventh level, or even go further.

Suddenly, a burst of noise pulled him out of his meditative state. He looked up and saw that his classmates had formed a circle.

Inside the circle, two boys about sixteen or seventeen years old were preparing to spar.

One was tall and burly, over 1.9 meters, while the other was just over 1.7 meters.

Brian Carter knew both of them. The tall, burly student was named Samuel Scott, and the other was Jack Reed.

The two of them never got along, and their cultivation levels were about the same—both stronger than the original Brian Carter, already at the peak of the sixth realm, just one step away from entering the seventh realm and qualifying for the martial arts program.

So both of them cherished this last bit of time. If they could break through in the final month, they could get into the martial arts program and have a bright future.

Brian Carter sat down next to Adam Cooper. When Adam Cooper saw Brian Carter arrive, he couldn’t help but ask, “Yunfan, who do you think will win?”

Adam Cooper looked at Brian Carter with great interest.

“What do you think?” Brian Carter didn’t answer directly, but asked in return.

“I think it’ll be Samuel Scott. He’s tall and burly, which gives him a natural advantage. If Jack Reed had a higher cultivation level, it’d be different, but since they’re about the same, Jack Reed doesn’t stand much of a chance!” Adam Cooper didn’t notice the changes in Brian Carter after his recent breakthrough and just spoke his mind.
