Chapter 001: Judgment

"Will the jury please announce your verdict!" With two heavy strikes of the gavel, the judge's voice echoed through the courtroom.

A middle-aged fat man, wearing an oversized white T-shirt that couldn't hide his bloated figure, struggled to twist himself in the narrow chair before slowly standing up. As his body wobbled, his entire mass of fat quivered, and even the thin sheet of white paper in his hand trembled incessantly.

The middle-aged fat man steadied himself with difficulty, shook the white paper in his hand, and shouted to the judge, "Your Honor, after deliberation, the jury unanimously finds the defendant—guilty!"

As that fat man's voice fell, my heart sank into the abyss.

But it wasn't over yet. After the fat man finished, the judge cleared his throat and loudly declared, "This court pronounces: the defendant Gavin Ford is found guilty of intentional injury and is sentenced to life imprisonment. Guilty of extortion, sentenced to three years in prison. The sentences are to be served concurrently, with the heavier sentence prevailing. Effective immediately, the defendant is to be transferred to Chik Lok Kok Prison."

Amidst the uproar, I turned my head expressionlessly to look behind me. I saw a young man of about eighteen or nineteen sitting behind me, grinning smugly at me. Beside him, a beautiful woman clung to his arm, also smiling at me, her expression clearly mocking.

That young man was the one the judge said I had injured. That woman was my fiancée.

My name is Gavin Ford, but my friends all call me Little Blake. I am an utterly ordinary person. I have no distinguished family background, nor a handsome appearance. I am just an ordinary civilian from a small town in the Elvin Province.

That young man is Luke Allen, my boss, and the person I most want to kill in this life. When he and that shameless woman were having an affair in my room, they were discovered by my ailing father. He killed my father!

The police didn't arrest him, because his father was the chief of the town's police station. While I was being interrogated over and over in a dark little room, he and that wretched woman were desecrating my father's memorial.

I only learned the truth from my friends, having been in the dark before. When the law could not give me justice, I could only take revenge myself!

When I snuck into his house, I found myself walking into a trap. I had almost no chance to resist before his men swarmed me and captured me. After suffering seven days of torment in that dark little room at the police station, I was sentenced to life imprisonment. At this moment, my body was covered in wounds, completely drained of strength, but I waited, knowing he would come to gloat.

Sure enough, he brought that wretched woman right up to me. Though he was only a few steps away, I could do nothing to him, as two bailiffs gripped my arms tightly on either side.

"Gavin Ford, you really are too stupid, stupid enough to try to kill me. Do you know how I found out? Let me tell you—it was your best friend who told me. Ha! Gavin Ford, you really are a failure—not only did your wife betray you, but even your friend did. Do you know why? Because I have money, I have power!" Luke Allen said smugly in front of me.

Luke Allen's words stirred no waves in my heart, because I had already guessed all of this. Looking at his smug smile, I suddenly smiled too. "Luke Allen, don't get too cocky. Don't forget, I was once your chief accountant. You can't cover the sky with one hand—I've got dirt on you!"

Hearing this, Luke Allen's face changed. He glanced at the two bailiffs standing beside me. The two bailiffs looked like puppets, expressionless. With a sinister smile, he lowered his voice and said to me, "Gavin Ford, you can't scare me. What dirt could you possibly have on me?"

"Want to know?" I smiled. "Come closer and I'll tell you. Heh, it's something that could ruin both you and your old man!"
