Chapter 20

"George Clark! You—you’re bullying people again!" Jessica Bennett had somehow walked to the doorway and witnessed the scene, shouting at George Clark angrily.

"Jessica? Ah, no, I wasn’t bullying him, really, how could I bully a classmate?" George Clark quickly turned his head and smiled sweetly at Jessica Bennett, then patted Henry Thompson on the shoulder and whispered, "Right, Henry? I was just telling you the e-sports club’s activity time, wasn’t I?"

"No, he just called me a bookworm, and said I was a socially disadvantaged group. Oh, and he also laughed at me for joining the e-sports club even though I don’t know how to play." Henry Thompson suddenly changed his usual demeanor, looking aggrieved as he spoke.

George Clark was trying to be clever here. When little kids get bullied, they might tell the teacher or their parents, but at their age, with such strong self-esteem, boys would be looked down upon even for telling the class monitor, let alone the teacher—especially since the class monitor was a girl.

Henry Thompson found George Clark’s behavior amusing, glanced at Jessica Bennett, and more or less understood that George Clark was interested in Jessica Bennett, so he deliberately tried to get him in trouble.

"George Clark, lunchtime is almost over. Could you please go back to your seat?" Jessica Bennett glared fiercely at George Clark as she spoke.

"Alright, my bad. Here’s Henry Thompson’s application form, you can take it. I’ll go back now." George Clark grinned, raised his hand, and slowly retreated to the back of the classroom, whispering in Henry Thompson’s ear as he passed, "You little brat, you got me good!"

"Henry Thompson, are you joining the e-sports club?" Jessica Bennett glanced at the application form, asking in surprise.

"Yeah, someone tattled to the homeroom teacher, so I had no choice." The grievance on Henry Thompson’s face had completely vanished; he shrugged nonchalantly as he opened his book.

Jessica Bennett immediately blushed, looking shy as she said, "Then remember to come to the e-sports club room on the fifth floor after school this afternoon, okay?"

Watching Jessica Bennett walk back to her seat with a red face, Henry Thompson shook his head with a smile, thinking, Isn’t this girl a bit too shy?

The afternoon classes ended quickly, and Henry Thompson slung his shoulder bag and went to the fifth floor as promised.

"Henry Thompson?" As soon as he entered the club room, Henry Thompson heard a voice full of delight and surprise.

"Helen Cooper?" Drawing on the memories of this body’s previous owner, Henry Thompson quickly recalled that the lively, pretty girl in front of him was one of his few friends at this school.

"What are you doing here? Did you join the e-sports club too?" Helen Cooper asked in surprise.

"Why, can’t I join the e-sports club?" Henry Thompson replied with a smile.

"No, no, it’s just… you seem a little different." Helen Cooper looked him up and down curiously, then suddenly glanced at the door, and hurriedly pushed Henry Thompson, saying, "Hey, don’t look, don’t look back!"

Curious, Henry Thompson turned his head. Two young people, a boy and a girl, walked in at the door, laughing and holding hands.

But the moment the long-haired girl saw Henry Thompson, her laughter abruptly stopped.

"Xiang… Henry?" The girl stared in shock for a moment, asking in surprise and panic.

"Yeah, it’s me." In that instant, memories of the girl’s identity and everything about her flooded Henry Thompson’s mind. Because this girl had left such a deep impression—not on him, strictly speaking, but on the previous owner of this body. The girl standing before him was Jane Baker, his childhood sweetheart and girlfriend who had broken up with him just two months ago.

In his memories, the two had lived close to each other as children, and their families often visited. They attended the same elementary school. Before graduating, Jane Baker’s father became successful in business, so they moved away and quickly arranged for Jane Baker to transfer schools.

Unexpectedly, they met again in the same middle school. Due to the nature of Korea’s education system, early relationships among students were common. Reunited by fate, the two naturally became a couple under the influence of their environment. Although their family backgrounds had already diverged, youth and Henry Thompson’s strikingly handsome face—on par with any celebrity—and his consistently top grades and numerous competition awards made him the envy of many. Any girl in middle school with such a boyfriend would surely feel proud.

In high school, they kept their promise from ninth grade and attended the same school. But at some point, the environment and people’s hearts began to change. Jane Baker gradually noticed that the things girls compared among themselves were no longer grades or their boyfriends’ school honors, but the clothes they wore, the brands of their bags, and the prices of the accessories their boyfriends gave them. When bored, they even discussed family businesses, which had once seemed distant.
