Chapter 9

"Sounds pretty exciting, but can I be the dragon-slaying hero?" Brian Clark was eager to try.

Helen Parker shook her head. "This has nothing to do with you. Shuer Company has already spent a lot of money to hire a Bronze Order Keeper as the hero. Your task is just to assist him. This is also a trial to earn your Order Keeper qualification."

"Alright. How long will it take?" Brian Clark didn't really care.

"As long as the dragon is slain smoothly, the sooner the better, of course. Also, the reward for this commission is five hundred credit points." Helen Parker handed the detailed information in her hand to Brian Clark.

Five hundred credit points? That's really cheap. Looks like this Shuer Company is indeed a small company, with very limited funds.

Brian Clark glanced through it and put it away. Back when he was a Destroyer, in these kinds of small worlds, he could easily wipe out everything without a trace. He could even burn down a server to ashes by flooding it with massive redundant data.

Now that he had become an Order Keeper, there were a lot more restrictions, but for him, protecting one person was still no challenge at all.

However, he couldn't take the Order Keeper's reward. If he did, it would have to be handed over as compensation to the Earth Operator. With a nine hundred million compensation, throwing in five hundred credit points wouldn't even make a splash.

Brian Clark quickly drafted a reward distribution agreement and sent it to Helen Parker via a private channel. "Here, sign it."

The agreement stipulated that for any task Brian Clark took on, he would not take a single cent of the commission fee. 95% would go to Rose Squad member Helen Parker, and the remaining 5% would count as compensation, to be paid to the Earth Operator, letting them know he was already working and doing his best to repay the debt. This was technically an attempt to evade debt on purpose. Brian Clark was a bit uneasy when drafting it, worried the agreement wouldn't be legally valid. But for some reason, after the AI reviewed it, it unexpectedly showed as legal. Brian Clark couldn't figure it out, so he simply stopped thinking about it and focused on getting the agreement signed. The three women were discussing their own tasks; they all had confidence in Brian Clark's abilities and weren't worried he wouldn't complete the commission.

Helen Parker received the agreement, glanced at it, and frowned slightly.

Her voice immediately came through the private channel, flatly refusing: "No, I can't accept this."

Brian Clark insisted, "Take it. I'm telling you, from now on, you take all my rewards. I'll just rely on you to support me. Otherwise, I'll have to live on basic subsistence for the rest of my life, which would be worse than death."

He transferred the reward to Helen Parker, letting Helen Parker provide him with all kinds of living supplies, thus avoiding the minimum living guarantee penalty. Even with a nine hundred million compensation, he could still eat and drink well.

As for whether Helen Parker would embezzle his money, Brian Clark never even considered it. They were like an old married couple; there was no need to worry about such a low-level trust issue.

Helen Parker thought about it and signed her name on the agreement. "Alright then. I'll hold onto the money. If you need it, just ask me for it."

Thinking of how Helen Parker usually survived at home on barely edible nutrient solution, Brian Clark felt a bit choked up. He said generously, "Since it's for you, all the control is in your hands. Use it as you like. From now on, your husband will take care of you."

"Get lost. What husband? That's just a game!" came a coquettish scold through the private channel, tinged with anger and something else hard to describe.

Brian Clark smiled slightly and fell silent.

Suddenly, Lily Clark's voice rose, "Xin-jie, you're not paying attention. We're discussing the mission here."

The three were talking about their own tasks, but Helen Parker had already zoned out several times because she was talking privately with Brian Clark.

"Oh, oh, I was just thinking about something. Sorry," Helen Parker apologized hurriedly.

Lily Clark didn't press the issue and continued talking about the mission world's details.

Brian Clark listened for a while from the side and only knew that the three women were preparing to go to a medieval fantasy world. They were talking about things he had already experienced, which felt boring, so he said goodbye: "Then I'll go be a bodyguard in the Age of Dragons."

"Go ahead, be careful," Helen Parker reminded him with concern. Emily gave him an encouraging smile and nod, while Lily Clark secretly made a funny face at him.

After Brian Clark left, Lily Clark's face turned worried. She said anxiously, "Xin-jie, to be honest, Brian Clark is really unfathomable. Isn't it too risky for us to work with him?"

Helen Parker was naturally at ease, but she didn't comment and looked at Emily. "Xuan-jie, you have the best judgment. What do you think?"

Emily smiled and shook her head. "It's fine. As for Brian Clark, I've lived with him for ten years, observed him for ten years, and analyzed him for ten years. He's someone you can trust. Although he seems a bit lazy on the outside, as long as we treat him as a true partner, he will never let us down. You've all lived with him for quite some time, so you should be able to feel this too."

Helen Parker agreed, "I checked Peng Zu's entire life record. His status wasn't low; he was even a ruler of a country at one point. But in eight hundred years, he only ever married, never took a concubine. At least while his wife was alive, he was always devoted to her."

Lily Clark nodded as well. "He's really good to me, always accommodating me."

Then she joked, "Xuan-jie, don't tell me you've fallen for him, speaking up for him like this?"
