Predator staggered underfoot, struggling to steady himself and adjust his body to the trembling earth. In the instant the deadly trunk swept toward him, he narrowly dodged aside.
Just as he breathed a sigh of relief, the ground suddenly gave way. Predator hurriedly tried to leap up, but it was too late—a deep pit opened beneath him, and half his body fell in. The earth seemed like a giant mouth, swallowing his lower half in one gulp. The jaws snapped shut, trapping him firmly in the soil!
The elephant-nosed rhinoceros truly lived up to its reputation as the earth god’s pet, even knowing how to use earth-trembling magic in battle.
The ground was still shaking. Predator tried to pull himself out of the earth, but it was nearly impossible. The elephant-nosed rhinoceros charged at lightning speed, and in a flash, it was right in front of him!
The long trunk lashed down hard. With a loud “crack,” a thick bloody welt appeared on Predator’s body. The tremendous force made stars dance before his eyes, and he spat out a mouthful of blood!
But he couldn’t block it—Predator was experienced and knew that if he blocked the trunk, he would never be able to stop the razor-sharp horn that followed. That was the truly deadly weapon!
Sure enough, right after the trunk, the black horn appeared before Predator almost without pause, silently stabbing toward his throat like the scythe of death.
With a loud shout, Predator crossed his arms in front of his chest. In that instant, two rock-like hard shells grew on his arms. These two “shields” were extremely tough. The elephant-nosed rhinoceros charged with a roar, its horn stabbing fiercely into the shields.
“Screech—bang!” After a harsh, grating sound, a section of the pitch-black horn flew off—the supposedly indestructible horn had actually snapped!
The elephant-nosed rhinoceros howled in pain, blood gushing from the base of its horn, tears streaming from its eyes like a spring.
Predator didn’t fare much better. After all, taking a hit from such a massive beast was no easy feat. He was already injured, and the violent impact made his insides churn. Another mouthful of dark blood welled up.
Chapter 002: Media Contact Virus
But now was the critical moment to kill the elephant-nosed rhinoceros—the success or failure of this hunt hinged on this! Predator, with astonishing willpower, gritted his teeth against the searing pain, pressed his palms to the ground, and suddenly sprang up, flipping through the air to land behind the wailing beast. Tucking his legs and curling his body, he slid “whoosh” between the giant’s legs, suddenly appearing right under its nose. Before the beast could react, he grabbed its long trunk with both hands, yanked with all his might, pivoted on his right foot, swung his left, and spun his body fiercely.
Amazingly, the massive elephant-nosed rhinoceros was swung around like a flail. Predator spun several times, let out a loud shout, released his grip, and with a “whoosh,” the enormous beast flew through the air, casting a huge shadow on the ground…
“Boom!” The giant beast crashed heavily to the earth, its massive body slamming into the ground like a meteor and gouging out a deep pit. The earth trembled, as if shaken by magic once again.
The impact shattered its internal organs; blood streamed from its seven orifices—it was clearly doomed.
At this moment, the victorious Predator did something surprising: he knelt devoutly on the ground, pressed his palms together, and murmured with a kind, gentle expression, “Alas, Henry Bennett has killed again. Mother, please forgive me…” After his confession, he leapt up, grinning and rubbing his hands. “Haha, this will feed me for half a month!” As if the pious penitent from a moment ago had never existed.
For such a terrifying hunter, even the serrated swift wolves hiding in the grass, though their mouths watered at the sight of such delicious prey, dared not come out to snatch it. Pairs of blood-red wolf eyes glimmered among the grass blades, shooting jealous glances.
Predator—Henry Bennett was incredibly strong. Grabbing the giant beast’s legs, he heaved the massive elephant-nosed rhinoceros onto his shoulder and walked off humming a tune. The sound of “thud, thud, thud” footsteps echoed across the steppe.
The herd remained, but in the running throng, no one noticed a companion was missing.
The campfire blazed, and above the flames roasted a huge elephant-nosed rhinoceros trunk—the most delicious part of the beast. Henry Bennett ate this first.
On this steppe, there were no seasonings at all, not even basic salt, but Henry Bennett still ate heartily.
After dinner, lying by the campfire—even he dared not sleep on this dangerous steppe without a fire. Even to magical beasts, fire was a powerful deterrent.
In the sky, the stars twinkled like a beauty’s eyes. Every star, his mother used to say, was a Buddha watching over the sinners of the world from above—Henry Bennett, lying beneath the alien sky each night, always remembered these words. His mother was a devout Buddhist, teaching him all his life about karma and retribution, urging him to be kind to people and animals alike.
