Henry Bennett had no idea how he could understand the language of the people here; it seemed no different from the Chinese he used before.
However, the unfriendly attitude of these people made him very angry. What hurt his pride the most was: he was neither hunchbacked nor covered in long hair, so how did he become a “Humpback, Sloth”?
In his anger, he snapped a tree branch with a single slap. This method of attack and venting was very similar to the legendary high-level magical beast, the Humpback Sloth, which just happened to confirm the archer captain’s judgment!
“What nonsense are you spouting!” Henry Bennett roared, slapping away a flying arrow. Hearing him “speak human language,” the young mage girl in the adventurer team cried out in surprise, “Ah! An intelligent magical beast—it’s definitely not just a high-level beast, it must have reached the level of a divine beast!” Henry Bennett was annoyed; although the word “divine” sounded good, once you added another word after it, the feeling was completely different!
“……” Henry Bennett opened his mouth wide, about to argue, but suddenly thought it would be fun to mess with this group of people, so his eyes rolled and he changed his mind.
He stopped defending himself and instead turned to look at the magical beast these people were besieging.
There were five people in this team: besides the archer captain, there was a young female mage, two warriors, and a healer.
One of the two warriors wielded a two-handed greatsword, the other swung a battle axe, both desperately blocking a leopard wreathed in flames. Henry Bennett had killed a few of these magical beasts in the forest before, just to fill his stomach. Its magic crystal was too small, not even worthy for Henry Bennett to wear around his neck.
After traveling through the forest for two months, he had only gained three more magic crystals around his neck. The forest environment was unlike the grasslands; there were too many trees here, so the magical beasts in the forest couldn’t be too large, or they wouldn’t be able to move around easily.
Henry Bennett glanced at the flaming leopard and suddenly pounced…
Chapter 005 Comfortable Life
The members of the adventurer team stared in shock as the “high-level magical beast Humpback Sloth” used its “terrifying giant claws” to snap the spine of the mid-level magical beast, the Flame Leopard, and then crushed its skull with another swipe. For a moment, their minds went blank—they couldn’t understand why this high-level magical beast would help them.
Henry Bennett killed the Flame Leopard and devoured it in a few bites—the meat of the Flame Leopard tasted quite good, especially when roasted with its own flames, making it a true delicacy—then grinned menacingly as he slowly approached the adventurer team.
“Warriors, block the beast! Mage, prepare! Healer and archer, provide support!” The captain remained calm in the face of danger, giving clear and orderly commands. Although both warriors were over 1.8 meters tall and much more robust than Henry Bennett, they still felt intimidated by such a terrifying “magical beast.”
But if they wanted to survive, they had to hold their ground, so they could only grit their teeth and charge forward. The greatsword spun, the battle axe whistled through the air, and with two loud shouts, the two warriors attacked from left and right, flanking their foe.
Two fierce gusts of wind rushed toward the high-level magical beast. The young mage girl began chanting a beautiful incantation like a song, a cluster of magical elements gathering before her. The archer did his best, firing three arrows in rapid succession, one after another, at Henry Bennett. The healer stood ready, prepared to heal any teammate who got injured.
None of them felt confident, because they were facing an intelligent magical beast—while the power of magical beasts was terrifying, without intelligence, humans could still handle them.
But once a magical beast gained intelligence, it naturally advanced to become a divine beast—even if its power was only at the level of a high-level magical beast.
Unintelligent magical beasts could easily be hunted by humans working together, but an intelligent magical beast became the “hunter” of humans. Such a terrifying beast—if not a divine beast, what else could it be?
Facing a divine beast, none of the team members had any confidence. The first wave of attacks was impressive; if it were against an ordinary magical beast, they would have been sure of victory. Even the Flame Leopard just now would have been no problem. But facing a divine beast, they had no confidence at all.
All the members knew that today’s battle might very well be the last fight of their lives.
However, something completely unexpected happened: before any of their attacks landed on the intelligent magical beast, it suddenly collapsed to the ground with a thud—perfectly dodging the greatsword’s slash, the battle axe’s chop, and the three consecutive arrows!
All three attacks missed, and the mage hadn’t even had time to act! The five of them stood there, stunned, staring in confusion at the motionless “divine beast” on the ground.
They looked at each other. The archer captain coughed, pulling everyone out of their daze: “Ahem… did we defeat it?” The healer, ever rational, shook his head and said, “Captain, in my opinion, it fainted on its own.” The others had actually seen it too, but just couldn’t believe it: an intelligent magical beast, fainting on its own in battle? If word of this got out, it would probably make the whole Divine Continent laugh!
