The kind-hearted mother and the fatherless Henry Bennett inevitably suffered bullying. Behind his mother's back, Henry Bennett had gotten into countless fights, but in front of his mother, he was always a well-behaved child, diligent in his studies and hardworking at his job.
He was most afraid of seeing the guilt in his mother's eyes. If Henry Bennett made any mistake, his mother would never blame Henry Bennett; instead, she always thought it was her own "sin," a punishment she deserved that had befallen her child, which made her feel deeply guilty.
Every time that look flashed in his mother's eyes, Henry Bennett's heart bled. After relying on each other for more than twenty years, he had finally graduated from college and could repay his mother, only to end up in this damned place...
All because of that stormy night.
After working overtime, it was already past eleven. Outside, rain poured down in torrents. In the rain, Henry Bennett saw a ball of light...
The aliens who abducted him were actually quite humane. They told Henry Bennett that they had just developed a "Contact Virus." This virus didn't transmit diseases, but rather the "traits" of the infected organism. A creature infected by the Contact Virus would pass some of its traits to the first person it touched, after which the former would die.
This virus had not yet been tested on living subjects. The aliens wanted Henry Bennett to be the specimen for their live experiment and stated that he would be paid a rather "generous" reward.
When Henry Bennett saw the long "reward list," it included not only a large sum of money but also the most tempting "superpowers." He agreed without hesitation.
With these, he and his mother could finally live a happy life.
The live experiment couldn't be conducted on the UFO, since data needed to be recorded. So even though all nine samples of the Contact Virus were on the UFO, they had to return to the aliens' planet for the experiment.
In the vast universe, for long-distance interstellar travel, the aliens relied on advanced "space jump" technology.
But unexpectedly, the UFO malfunctioned at the critical moment. The jump had already begun, but the machine broke down. In the chaotic space, Henry Bennett was struck by a tremendous force and lost consciousness. When he woke up, he was on this wasteland.
Around him, aside from a few pieces of UFO debris, there were only nine Contact Viruses, each sealed in a slender alloy vial. Who knew what material these vials were made of—they were incredibly sturdy.
Henry Bennett pulled out one of the vials and unscrewed it to take a look. Inside a glass tube, some golden powder floated in a pale blue liquid.
He gave a bitter laugh and casually tossed this Contact Virus away—even though that alien scientist had repeatedly claimed this virus was his life's work, what use could it possibly have on such a deserted island? Absolutely worthless!
"Ping!" The glass tube shattered, and the pale blue liquid and golden powder spilled out. In the blue liquid, golden specks sparkled, like a starry sky reflected in the sea. A red ant, as big as a thumb, quickly crawled over, completely unaware of the virus's danger.
It rushed through the virus, heading straight for Henry Bennett. Unaware, Henry Bennett was bitten hard on the leg by the giant ant!
Henry Bennett let out a scream. Looking down, he saw blood streaming from his calf—the ant was incredibly strong!
Furious, he reached out to slap the ant dead, but just as he raised his hand, the huge red ant suddenly kicked its legs and died on its own!
Still annoyed, Henry Bennett stomped the ant into a pulp, not satisfied yet: "You think dying is enough? How dare you bite me..." He stomped a few more times, then suddenly felt dizzy and weak all over, and collapsed to the ground with a thud...
When he woke up, he had no idea how many days had passed. The reason he woke was because of vibrations in the ground—a lizard the size of a baby elephant, with scimitar-like horns on its head, was charging at him with a roar!
Chapter 003: Blade-Horned Giant Lizard
This monster was also a dominant force on the wasteland: the Blade-Horned Giant Lizard! The Blade-Horned Giant Lizard was probably the most ferocious magical beast on this wasteland, attacking any creature it saw, dead or alive.
With skin as tough as a rhinoceros's, the strength of a wasteland earth dragon, and razor-sharp blade-like horns on its head, the Blade-Horned Giant Lizard was a nightmare for all wasteland creatures. Even the wasteland earth dragons were reluctant to tangle with it.
Henry Bennett had first been abducted by aliens, then survived a massive explosion, then inexplicably appeared in this world, then was humiliatingly bitten by an ant and passed out, and now, just after waking up, he saw this terrifying beast. He screamed in terror and turned to run.
But how could two legs outrun four? He was never good at long-distance running anyway. As Henry Bennett ran, he thought to himself: I'm doomed...
But to his surprise, as soon as he started running, the wind roared past his ears, the wild grass on both sides blurred by, and his speed was astonishing! And even after running for a while, he didn't feel tired. He was amazed himself. Looking back, it seemed he had even left the Blade-Horned Giant Lizard behind!
