The next morning, after confirming that he was still in a different world, Jack Harper let out a helpless sigh and then set off for the academy. The courtyard where he lived had once again become completely empty.
His freeloading father had gone with his stepmother to handle matters for the Yue family in another city. It would probably be more than ten days before they returned, and if the two of them wanted to enjoy some time alone, it might take even longer.
At this hour, the academy gates were crowded with people—youthful girls and adorable lolis everywhere, at least in Jack Harper’s eyes. Besides them, he couldn’t see anything else.
His favorites were the girls dressed in revealing, sexy outfits, as well as the cute gothic lolis. Of course, he liked the cool and aloof beauties just as much.
At this moment, he suddenly felt that this world wasn’t so bad after all. At least the girls here were really nice, and their fashion and style were just as good as in his original world. Most importantly, the girls in this world weren’t all the same, unlike in his previous world.
It was one thing for everyone to dress the same, but why did their faces sometimes look exactly the same too!
“Hey, Little Jack, it’s so early in the morning and you’re already staring lecherously at our female classmates. That’s not good!” A voice made the nearby girls turn to look at Jack Harper, their faces showing obvious disdain.
Jack Harper replied calmly, “Our female classmates are all so beautiful, I couldn’t help but look a few more times. If the girls think this is inappropriate, I don’t mind standing here and letting everyone look back at me.”
“Ugh, shameless!”
“Hmph!”
The girls all turned away and left.
“Little Jack, that was a great line just now— even more shameless than yesterday.”
A few people appeared beside Jack Harper; it was the same group of useless rich kids from yesterday.
“Why are you losers at the academy too? Is something going on today?” Jack Harper asked curiously. Normally, these good-for-nothings were just like him—if there was nothing going on, they would never come to the academy.
Wait, why am I including myself? That was the old him. Whatever, it doesn’t matter. There’s no need to draw such a clear line. Now I am him, and he is me.
“Are you pretending with us? Why are you here today if not for the same reason as us?” one of the rich kids said disdainfully to Jack Harper.
“I’m here to read in the library. Are you guys here for the same reason?” Jack Harper looked at the rich kids and asked.
“Get lost, stop pretending. You, reading? If you’re here to read, I’ll eat a book right here.”
“Fine, then go eat a book.” Jack Harper waved his hand and walked inside. Talking to these good-for-nothings was just a waste of his time.
“Hey, Little Jack, you’re not serious, are you? Are you really going this far just to embarrass me?” The rich kids easily misunderstood Jack Harper, thinking he was doing this just to make someone look bad. After all, usually asking him to go to the library was like asking for his life.
Jack Harper didn’t reply, just walked toward the library. The rich kids followed, talking among themselves, but he never responded.
The rich kids didn’t mind this at all. If Jack Harper didn’t talk, they could just talk among themselves. They were a group—missing one voice didn’t make a difference.
“Little Jack, you’re so shameless. If we hadn’t followed you, we wouldn’t have known you wanted to hog everything for yourself.”
When they arrived at the library, the group of rich kids suddenly said something that Jack Harper didn’t quite understand, but he didn’t dwell on it. What mattered most to him right now was checking out the cultivation techniques inside.
So, he went straight in, ignoring whatever else the rich kids wanted to say.
Entering the cultivation technique section, he saw rows upon rows of bookshelves filled with manuals: Gale Technique, Blazing Fire Technique, Profound Water Technique, and Solid Earth Technique. These four basic techniques were displayed in prominent places, each taking up half a bookshelf.
In this world, there are thousands of cultivation techniques. Choosing the one that suits you can greatly speed up your cultivation, while picking the wrong one can slow you down—or, in the worst case, halt your progress entirely.
Everyone’s constitution is different. Attributes like wind, fire, water, and earth are easy enough to identify, but others are much harder to determine. Choosing a technique relies mostly on intuition. If your intuition is wrong, you might waste months of cultivation, and if you keep relying on luck after that, it’s all up to fate.
Most geniuses have no such limitations; they can cultivate any technique at lightning speed. That’s probably what makes them geniuses—their bodies are suited to any technique.
Ordinary people are different. Picking the wrong technique could leave them with lifelong regrets. That’s where the four basic techniques come in—they’re generally suitable for everyone, except for the extremely unlucky.
For ordinary people, as long as their cultivation speed is decent, that’s enough. Compared to geniuses, they rely purely on hard work and will never be faster.
Fortunately, in this world, there’s something else that determines strength, and it’s not just about talent. It’s more about luck and combat ability.
That thing is the Star Spirit!
