Chapter 6

The girl didn’t say much.

“You came out to work—how did that happen?”

Henry Shaw just asked casually.

Hearing this question, a complex expression appeared on the girl’s face. Suddenly, she asked, “Big brother, does your family need a housekeeper? I can do it.”

Henry Shaw looked at the girl in confusion.

At that moment, as if she had gathered her courage, the girl began to tell her story.

It turned out that the girl’s name was Diana Brooks, a child from a poor family in Xiagou Village. The village was so impoverished that everyone would go to the city to work. This time, she had come after being introduced by a woman from the village. She originally thought she was coming to be a sales assistant, but after arriving in the provincial capital, she realized the woman had tricked her and wanted her to work as an escort in a hotel. Once she found out, she ran away, but was soon caught by those people. If it hadn’t been for Henry Shaw’s appearance, she might have been in real danger after being taken back.

Now, although Diana Brooks had gotten her documents back, she was penniless and had nowhere to go.

Looking at this seemingly fragile girl, Henry Shaw thought of his own situation and felt a surge of sympathy. He realized that the girl was truly at the end of her rope, which was why she had asked about being a housekeeper.

After thinking for a moment, he remembered that the apartment he rented was quite large, and having someone to clean up wouldn’t be bad. He nodded slightly and said, “Alright, come with me!”

Diana Brooks was just grasping at straws, not expecting Henry Shaw to actually agree. She hesitated, glanced at Henry Shaw, then bit her lip and said nothing more, following Henry Shaw out.

As Diana Brooks watched Henry Shaw walking ahead, her expression grew complicated and her heart filled with anxiety. She really didn’t know what this man would do to her.

After leaving the police station, she realized she had nowhere to go. With no money, her only option might have been to wander the streets. Since Henry Shaw had rescued her, she felt a strong sense of goodwill toward him and wanted to see if she could get his help.

“This apartment has three bedrooms. I’m using one now, so you can pick either of the other two. By the way, can you cook?”

Once inside, Henry Shaw pointed to the two bedrooms and spoke to Diana Brooks.

Looking at the beautifully decorated apartment, Diana Brooks gazed around curiously. Hearing the question, she quickly replied, “Brother Shaw, I can cook.”

“Good, then cleaning and cooking for this place will be your responsibility.”

As he spoke, he found a set of bedding and handed it to Diana Brooks, saying, “It’s too late today. Tomorrow I’ll help you buy your daily necessities. Oh, let me show you around the apartment.”

Soon, after Henry Shaw finished introducing how to use the items in the apartment, he went into his own bedroom.

Henry Shaw wasn’t worried that the girl would steal anything—he didn’t have anything valuable anyway. What he was really thinking about now was studying his own dantian again.

Chapter 004: The Direction of Doing Good Deeds

Henry Shaw was excited all night, noticing that golden streams of energy would occasionally enter his dantian. Over the course of the night, another crack had been repaired.

The next morning, as soon as Henry Shaw opened his bedroom door, he saw a beautiful woman sitting quietly on the sofa. He was stunned for a moment before realizing it was the Diana Brooks he had brought home last night.

But now, Diana Brooks looked stunning. Maybe it was because she had taken a shower—she no longer looked dirty and disheveled. Her hair was tied up, her eyes were big and bright, and there was a sparkle in them.

Henry Shaw said, “Tell me more about your village.”

Diana Brooks began to describe her village again. Xiagou Village was a village four hours’ walk from the township government, with no road access. It was hard for villagers to leave, and since there was nothing special about the place, the per capita income was only ten or twenty yuan. Many villagers had gone out to work, and there were fewer and fewer young people left in the village.

Listening to Diana Brooks’s introduction, Henry Shaw closed his eyes and fell into deep thought.

Last night, Henry Shaw had an idea. Doing something with a wide impact wasn’t easy, but if he could help a poor village develop, he would surely gain a lot of golden energy.

“How many people are in your village?”

“There are more than eighty households, with a population of 307. But some people have gone out to work.” Diana Brooks was familiar with the village’s situation and quickly reported the numbers after a mental calculation.

“Hmm, even though it’s not a lot, if it’s done well, it would still be a great merit!”

Henry Shaw muttered to himself.

“Shuixian, can you take me to your village?” Henry Shaw looked at Diana Brooks and asked.

Looking at Henry Shaw in confusion, Diana Brooks said, “Brother Shaw, you want to send me back to the village?”

“You don’t want to go home?”

“Brother Shaw, please don’t send me away. I’ll do whatever you say, I promise!”

Diana Brooks looked at Henry Shaw pitifully.

“You don’t want to go back to the village?”

Henry Shaw was a bit surprised.
