Chapter 6

At this moment, the four people retreating toward the edge of the forest were moving quickly, heading for the outskirts. They knew the safe route.

The four of them remained silent along the way; not a single word was spoken, because they knew that today they had betrayed their comrades. No matter the reason, betraying comrades was a sin, despised by everyone on this continent. If word of this got out, they would never be able to hold their heads up in public again. There was one thing they hadn’t considered: if The Harris Family found out about this, it would be a disaster.

Claire Green was the first to break the silence: “What should we say when we get back?” Princess was silent for a moment, then said, “We’ll stick to the plan and say we got separated in the Magic Beast Forest.”

Claire Green thought for a moment and said, “The Harris Family isn’t stupid. They’ll figure it out sooner or later.”

“I know that. I knew it when I made the plan. But I still have to do it this way—hide it for as long as we can. I’m sorry for dragging you all into this.” Princess thought to herself: Bringing him here alone was basically telling everyone I had a problem, and the others wouldn’t dare abandon him for fear of The Harris Family’s revenge. Only you were the only choice.

Claire Green immediately replied, “It’s not about dragging anyone down. After all, I was one of his targets too. I’m just helping myself. Princess, you don’t need to feel guilty.”

The two men chose to remain silent. After all, as a knight and a swordsman, betraying their comrades was unforgivable.

Each of the four harbored their own thoughts, and they left the Magic Beast Forest in silence. They didn’t know that Alan Clark had defeated the Dark Tiger, even though he died himself. If they had known, they might have seen him in a different light.

Brian Carter looked at Alan Clark’s corpse, wondering if a soul would come out after death. He waited a long time but saw nothing emerge from Alan Clark’s body. Brian Carter floated to the side of the corpse. Could he still be alive? Instinctively, he reached his hand toward the nostrils. No breath… Ah, how stupid—how could I make such a rookie mistake? How could my current hand possibly feel for breathing?

Just then, a faint magnetic field emanated from Alan Clark’s corpse, and Brian Carter, floating nearby, immediately sensed it. He drifted a little farther from the body. No soul emerged from the corpse; instead, the soul dispersed in all directions and vanished. Brian Carter couldn’t see this substance, but he could clearly sense it.

Suddenly, this substance seemed to find its home and drifted toward Brian Carter. Brian Carter wanted to avoid it, but as soon as it merged into his body, he felt extremely comfortable. So he let the substance merge with him, analyzing that it was pure energy. When a person dies, energy is released—something scientists often talk about.

After Brian Carter absorbed this energy, he thought, isn’t it said that ghosts can possess bodies, even return to life by borrowing a corpse? Now there’s a freshly dead body right here. Heh heh…

When Brian Carter entered Alan Clark’s body, his soul was hit by a powerful shock. When he tried to leave, he found he couldn’t. Was it the effect of that energy just now, making me the owner of this body? If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come in. I thought I could leave whenever I wanted, but now I can’t get out, and my whole body feels like it’s falling apart.

After merging with the flesh, Brian Carter gradually regained sensation and could control the body. That meant he could control the brain. At this moment, a thought emerged in Brian Carter’s mind.

Chapter 4: Rebirth Succeeds, Computerized Brain

The bright moon hung in the sky, its light shining on Alan Clark’s body. If anyone saw him, they would only think it was a corpse, since he lay motionless in a pool of blood. The moonlight reflected from the blood onto his body, making him appear to emit a faint red glow. If one looked closely, they would notice a very faint yellow radiance coming from him.

The reason for this phenomenon was that Brian Carter was using his thoughts to transform the body. Cases like Brian Carter’s were extremely rare; for a soul to merge into another’s body, there must be no rejection between the soul and the body, and the odds of that were minuscule. But Brian Carter had fused some of the energy originally belonging to this body into his own soul, making the body believe he was its original soul, thus preventing rejection.

When Brian Carter entered this body, a fusion occurred. But unlike most cases, where the process is confusing, Brian Carter was keenly aware of how he was merging, and even discovered he could control part of it.

So Brian Carter focused all his energy on transforming the brain. Back on Earth, he had wanted to manage his brain like a computer. Most areas of the human brain are dormant, never used in a lifetime.

Brian Carter sorted through all of Alan Clark’s past memories, partitioning the undeveloped areas of the brain like computer “hard drives.” The “system” was his own soul. That was all he could do—the brain was just too mysterious.

From Alan Clark’s memories, he learned many things. This planet was a world of swords and magic. What was the planet called? Since they didn’t even know they were on a planet, just like ancient Earth, there was no name for it.
