Chapter 10

At this moment, it became clear to see that the ghostly creature was about the size of an infant, its skin bluish-purple, its head disproportionately large compared to its body, and a pair of tiny, emotionless eyes shining with a cold green light in the black mist. Wisps of blue smoke still rose from the burned areas on its body, emitting a foul stench, and atop its head was a strange, blood-red crack.

At this time, Jason Allen had faintly regained consciousness. Having lived two lifetimes, he was extremely knowledgeable, and immediately recognized what he was seeing. As the saying goes, “Heaven never bars one’s way”—the heavens always leave a sliver of hope for every living being. This ferocious ghost, by virtue of its tragic fate and intense desire for revenge, seemed to have also obtained that mysterious thread of vitality between heaven and earth.

If it continued to develop, the crack atop its head would become an open eye, and its power would be utterly transformed, turning into the infamous drought demon. For hundreds of miles around, rivers would dry up and there would be no rain for years! Even so, this ghost had already surpassed the category of ordinary ghosts and could rightfully be called a “chi”!

However, for Jason Allen at this moment, he actually wished for the ghost to be as powerful as possible—ideally, for it to become a drought demon right away!

That beautiful youth, Frank Easton, was as gentle as jade, his bearing as graceful as a dragon, yet the methods he employed were so ruthless and sinister, even directly absorbing flesh, blood, and soul—his tactics were more brutal than those of many demons!

More importantly, although Frank Easton had suffered a sudden ambush, he was able to regain his composure in such a short time and instead set a trap to lure the enemy in for a close-range counterattack! How deep and calculating must his mind be to possess such cunning? Thus, in this situation, Jason Allen sincerely hoped that the ghost would be extremely powerful, as that would increase his own chances of survival!

After luring the enemy close and successfully counterattacking, Frank Easton suddenly turned around. Although a trace of black energy flickered between his brows, an indescribable aura of murderous intent radiated from him. His left hand began to form a dazzling series of hand seals, while at some point, his right hand had produced a small compass!

Although the chi monster had suffered a moderate setback, it was, after all, the embodiment of a fierce ghost—ferocious and violent. It immediately charged again, the black mist around its body growing denser and obscuring its form, while strange, cackling cries echoed in the air, disturbing the mind and conjuring illusions before the eyes.

Facing the chi monster’s sharp and vicious assault, the compass in Frank Easton’s hand suddenly flashed with yellow light, directly repelling the creature. As the two crossed paths, there was even a metallic clang, as if metal had struck metal.

Immediately after, the chi monster pounced again, as relentless as a maggot clinging to bone. Frank Easton’s white robe was torn in a large section, leaving him rather disheveled, yet his demeanor remained calm. The compass in his hand now shone with green light, once again neutralizing the crisis.

The chi monster, being a fetal-formed demon, was agile and nimble. After two or three attacks, Frank Easton was forced into a desperate situation, danger looming at every turn. Sweat appeared faintly on his forehead, and his breathing grew heavy. But just then, the compass in his hand suddenly burst forth with brilliant light!

A sharp golden beam appeared out of thin air, slashing the chi monster, then transforming into three thick golden chains that bound it tightly, digging deep into its flesh.

As the chi monster shrieked and struggled madly, the chains melted into molten red iron, seeping into the ground beneath its feet. Wherever the molten iron flowed, it cut through like knives and swords, leaving mangled flesh in its wake!

Just as the chi monster was about to muster its strength for a frenzied counterattack, seven or eight emerald green vines suddenly sprouted from the earth, entangling it once more. The thorns on the vines pierced deep into its body, greedily absorbing its flesh and blood essence. Although the vines were painfully torn from their roots by the chi monster, they withered rapidly! Immediately after, a bright flame was ignited by the withered vines, blazing fiercely and finally exploding violently, blasting the chi monster away!

Jason Allen, gasping violently on the ground, widened his eyes. According to the information he had gathered, the series of attacks unleashed by the beautiful youth Frank Easton, though dazzling and unpredictable, actually strictly adhered to the principles of the five elements’ mutual generation and restraint—this was the world-renowned “Five Virtues Cycle”!

The sequence of attacks he had just executed followed the pattern of “metal generates water,” “water generates wood,” and “wood generates fire.” The direct result of these three cycles of mutual generation was that each of Frank Easton’s attacks was twice as powerful as the previous one! The final explosion was four times as powerful as the first attack!

“Could it be that he is actually an inner disciple of the Five Virtues Academy?!”

At this thought, Jason Allen felt even more apprehensive—and even more despairing!

Although Frank Easton, strictly speaking, had only completed three cycles of the Five Virtues, fire was already the nemesis of ghosts, and the final burst of flame dealt tremendous damage to the chi monster, blasting off one of its arms and a leg.

The severed limbs instantly turned into foul-smelling black liquid, slowly seeping into the ground. For the chi monster, whose speed was its greatest advantage, losing a leg was a devastating blow!
