Chapter 1

Chapter 1: Grace Sutton, Calamity of Nations

“Qianyue Kingdom... the disgraced prince Eric Carter...”

Dressed in white prison clothes, Eric Carter slumped in the prison cart like a beggar. Two strong black horses pulled the cart, causing Eric Carter's body to sway with its movement.

At this moment, Eric Carter was on the verge of a breakdown.

Damn it!

I actually transmigrated!

Eric Carter, his face covered in grime, glanced around. Fifteen soldiers were escorting him. They were traveling through a canyon at sunset, with bare cliffs on both sides rising dozens of meters high. The ground was strewn with rocks, not a single plant in sight—the whole environment was desolate beyond compare.

It truly evoked the mood of “a lean horse on an ancient road in the west wind.”

“I really don’t want to transmigrate...”

Eric Carter was on the verge of tears. Before opening his eyes, he had just gotten off work, taken less than five steps out of his office building, when something suddenly struck his forehead. The next second, he felt dizzy, the world spinning. When he regained consciousness, he found himself in this prison cart, with a flood of unfamiliar memories pouring into his mind.

He was now inhabiting the body of the third prince of Qianyue Kingdom, who shared his name. According to this body’s memories, this was a world teeming with gods and demons, its size unknown, with Qianyue Kingdom just a drop in the ocean.

Although born a prince, this guy’s talent for Qi Refining was mediocre, completely outclassed by his siblings.

What is Qi Refining?

Absorbing the spiritual energy of heaven and earth to strengthen one’s body and soul. Those who master it can move mountains and seas, pluck stars and shift the moon.

The original owner of this body was sixteen years old, with only average talent, having reached just the second level of Qi Refining. He had no political talent either, making him almost irrelevant to the throne. But he was stubborn and had offended the fifth prince, Brian Carter. Not long ago, Brian Carter framed him for embezzling the national treasury. The emperor was furious and exiled him to the border for hard labor.

Of course, at the root of it, it was because the emperor simply didn’t like him.

“Damn, this world is so dangerous—I want to go back!”

Eric Carter thought with a miserable face. Isn’t transmigration supposed to involve being struck by lightning or hit by a car?

This makes no sense!

His career was just taking off, a beautiful female colleague had a secret crush on him, the peak of his life was right ahead—and now he’s transmigrated!

I refuse to accept this!

Eric Carter was indignant, and to make matters worse, he transmigrated at the worst possible time—about to be sent to hard labor, doomed to a miserable life!

Even though this world had gods and demons, damn it, he was only at the second level of Qi Refining. He couldn’t even beat the soldiers around him, let alone talk about becoming a god through cultivation.

Eric Carter was no child; his mind was mature. No matter how magical this world was, it had nothing to do with his current predicament.

“Ding! Activating Mythical System!”

“Ding! Mythical System is now binding to host!”

“Ding! As this is the first activation of the Mythical System, the host is rewarded with one random summon of a god or demon, and one random lottery draw!”

Just as Eric Carter was in utter despair, a cold voice sounded in his mind.

It startled Eric Carter so much he nearly jumped up.

What the heck is the Mythical System?

“The Mythical System is born of the vitality of the Great Dao. The host can summon one god or demon every month, and various achievements can trigger random lottery draws. The prizes are not limited to any category—they could be cultivation methods, techniques, rare treasures, divine artifacts, or even other types. It all depends on the host’s luck!”

The mysterious voice sounded again, leaving Eric Carter dumbfounded. In his previous life, he’d read countless fantastical novels, including system novels. He never thought this day would come for him.

He subconsciously pinched his own face. It hurt!

It was real!

“Pfft, this foolish prince is actually pinching himself!”

“Haha, that’s hilarious. He must be so hopeless he’s lost his mind.”

“So pitiful. Who told him to offend the fifth prince?”

“The fifth prince is not only talented but also skilled in intrigue. He’ll definitely ascend the throne in the future.”

“The royal family is ruthless—even blood brothers can frame each other.”

The surrounding soldiers chatted among themselves, most of their words mocking Eric Carter.

A prince exiled to the border—truly a rare event in history.

Eric Carter listened, seething with anger. He quickly asked in his mind, “System, how do I summon a god or demon?”

“Ding! Now randomly selecting a god or demon!”

“Ding! Congratulations, host, you have drawn the Nine-Tailed Fox Demon Grace Bennett!”

“Grace Bennett, from ‘Investiture of the Gods.’”

“Race: Nine-Tailed Fox Demon!”

“Cultivation: Fifth Level of the Illusory Realm!”

“Techniques: Celestial Fox Grand Art, Bewitching Heart Technique.”

“Innate Divine Ability: True Form of the Nine-Tailed Fox Demon!”

“Loyalty: 90 (out of 100)!”

“Special reminder: If a god or demon’s loyalty drops below 0, they will betray the host!”

Eric Carter was left dazed by the string of voices in his mind. What the heck was all this?
