Chapter 16

Thus, Eric Carter's path of being tormented officially began. David Cooper and Emily Cooper watched the whole time, both shocked by Eric Carter's talent. Eric Carter's combat awareness was excellent—he almost never made the same mistake twice. Plus, after breaking through to the Foundation Establishment stage, all his eight extraordinary meridians were unblocked, allowing him to make remarkable progress every day.

Five days passed in a flash.

Eric Carter and his companions finally saw a town. The Qianyue Kingdom was vast and rich; although there were only 137 cities, there were many towns. The cities were far apart, and traveling on foot took a long time. Eric Carter's group was in no hurry, so a three-day journey ended up taking five days.

“Qingtan City? After this, we should reach Xuanling Sect soon, right?” Eric Carter asked Emily Cooper. Most of his predecessor’s memories revolved around the capital, so he didn’t know much about the geography of the Qianyue Kingdom, and couldn’t even recall all the cities.

Emily Cooper smiled and said, “Yes, after Qingtan City, it’s just one more day’s walk.”

The time she was captured by Henry Clark had left her anxious and on edge, but these days traveling with Eric Carter had eased her nerves a lot. Eric Carter, who came from Earth, would occasionally tell some jokes, making Emily Cooper and Grace Bennett laugh often, which made Emily Cooper’s fondness for Eric Carter grow day by day.

“We’re finally almost there.”

Eric Carter muttered. As long as he sent Emily Cooper back to Xuanling Sect, he would receive a reward and could also draw a skill.

Currently, aside from the Desert Eagle, Eric Carter really had no other means of attack.

Cultivators fought with all kinds of spells and martial arts—he couldn’t just brawl with people, could he?

The Desert Eagle’s power was also limited; if he encountered a fast opponent, they could easily dodge the bullets.

So, Eric Carter was eager to draw an overpowered skill!

The group arrived at the city gate. Qingtan City’s walls were seven or eight meters high, and the gate itself was five meters tall and four meters wide. The traffic was bustling, making the place lively.

Two rows of soldiers stood at the gate. As Eric Carter and the others approached, one soldier stopped them and said, “Four people and a dog, ten copper coins.”

You have to pay to enter the city?

Eric Carter frowned. The Qianyue Kingdom had no such rule—at most, they would check your identity.

Emily Cooper, however, was unfazed. She directly took out ten copper coins from the pouch at her waist.

Just like that, the group entered Qingtan City. As soon as they stepped inside, Eric Carter was bumped into by a petite figure.

Chapter 12: Innate Righteousness

“Ah! Sorry! I didn’t mean to…”

The petite figure quickly backed away from Eric Carter's arms, apologizing repeatedly.

Eric Carter couldn’t help but look her over. She turned out to be a girl with a dirty face, dressed in old gray clothes, looking about fourteen or fifteen years old, and the whole person seemed like a frightened little rabbit.

“It’s fine.” Eric Carter glanced at her and then looked away, leading Grace Bennett and the others into the city.

This little incident didn’t attract anyone’s attention.

“To leave the city, five copper coins per person!”

A soldier stopped the girl in gray and said. At these words, the girl in white immediately widened her eyes and scolded in a delicate voice, “Five copper coins? Since when does Qingtan City have such a rule? How come I didn’t know?”

“There’s a lot you don’t know! If you don’t have money, get lost! Don’t even think about leaving the city!” the soldier shouted angrily, scaring the girl in gray into leaving, gritting her teeth.

Walking into a small alley, the girl in gray stomped her foot in anger, cursing under her breath, “When the upper beam is not straight, the lower beam is crooked! Damn it! How am I supposed to get out of here…”

On the other side, Eric Carter and his group entered an inn. After a day’s journey, they planned to rest in Qingtan City for the night.

Eric Carter couldn’t help but sigh. From what he’d seen along the way, he found Qingtan City to be extremely similar to ancient Chinese cities, even down to the way commoners dressed.

Most importantly, everyone spoke Chinese. He still didn’t know what connection this world had to Earth.

If possible, Eric Carter still wanted to go back. After all, he had a family on Earth, and his disappearance would surely bring grief to his parents.

“Grace Bennett, we’ll share a room.” Eric Carter said righteously.

“No way, I want to stay with Sister Grace Bennett. I’m too scared to sleep alone at night,” Emily Cooper quickly said, hugging Grace Bennett's arm, making Eric Carter’s mouth twitch.

Damn it!

What a third wheel!

Eric Carter forced himself to hold back his frustration and looked at Grace Bennett. Grace Bennett shrugged and said, “Young master, I’d better stay with Emily.”

Grace Bennett’s smiling face made Eric Carter feel awkward. Even though Grace Bennett’s loyalty was at ninety, that didn’t mean she was willing to give herself to Eric Carter. Maybe at full loyalty, but even then, who knew?

After all, the system didn’t say that full loyalty couldn’t drop, so Eric Carter didn’t dare force it, in case Grace Bennett’s loyalty plummeted and she ran away.

But judging from Grace Bennett’s attitude toward him, Eric Carter felt he still had hope!

So, Eric Carter and Howling Celestial Dog shared a room, Grace Bennett and Emily Cooper shared a room, and David Cooper had a room to himself.

After dinner, Eric Carter took Howling Celestial Dog out for a stroll, while Grace Bennett and Emily Cooper weren’t interested in the marketplace and didn’t follow.

“Candied hawthorn for sale!”

“The finest silk, come in and have a look, sir!”

“All the girls from Fireworks House are here today, gentlemen, come on in!”
