Chapter 11

Brian Cooper withdrew the spiritual power he had sent out, and everything returned to normal as if nothing had happened. Brian Cooper's cultivation had long since reached the level where he could send and retract his power at will. He also wouldn't destroy William Brooks's willpower mentally—that would be too much; a small lesson was enough.

William Brooks fell to the ground, gasping for breath. Although he wasn't physically hurt, the psychological pressure made him realize that Brian Cooper was not someone easy to talk to.

Brian Cooper said calmly, "I don't know what's going on with the Longmen Daoist Sect these days, to actually accept a little demon like you as a disciple. But if you think that with your meager skills you can act so recklessly toward me, you're mistaken. As you said, I don't want to cause trouble among mortals, so don't bring trouble to me. Stop trying to argue with me."

This statement shocked William Brooks even more than before.

"How did you know I'm from the Longmen Daoist Sect? I never told you that!" As soon as he said this, he basically admitted what Brian Cooper had said, revealing his own background.

Tilting his head, Brian Cooper said, "With your level of cultivation, do you really think you can fool me? Besides, last night at midnight in the southern suburbs, you were fighting a tiger spirit, weren't you? You even announced your sect name—I couldn't possibly not know." In fact, Brian Cooper had only found out about William Brooks's background by chance and just happened to mention it.

"Ah? Last night you..."

"I was online all night and didn't go anywhere, but with my cultivation, I can easily cast a spell to make any scene within tens of thousands of miles appear before my eyes." Brian Cooper himself didn't think much of it; after all, with his level of cultivation, many abilities were beyond the comprehension of a little demon like William Brooks.

William Brooks grinned slyly and said, "Hey! It's not that I was hiding it from you, it's just that we..."

"Stop. Whatever rules the Longmen Daoist Sect has, don't tell me. I absolutely won't get involved with you people. I have no grudge with the Longmen Daoist Sect, and right now I'm just an ordinary person." Brian Cooper knew that, at any time, demons and Daoist cultivators were bound to be in constant conflict, fighting each other in secret every day. In fact, over the past few days, he had sensed several major clashes in the city. But he had no interest in getting involved.

As for the infighting among demons, there seemed to be plenty of that too—whether it was for territory and power, or just showing off and fighting, it was none of his business. It seemed demons were restless as well, but he didn't want to get involved with any side.

Having had his identity exposed, William Brooks simply came clean: "Hey! Can you help me out? I'm not an official disciple of the Longmen Daoist Sect. My ancestors were human and had a connection with a senior from the sect, so I was taken in and learned some Daoist arts... this..."

"I didn't hear that. Why are you so annoying? Didn't you learn your lesson just now?" Brian Cooper started covering his ears, looking impatient. He had worked hard for five thousand years just so he could live a carefree life among mortals, and only by maintaining great power could he do as he pleased. He wasn't about to give up his ideal life for someone he'd only known a few days.

"Fine, fine. Don't forget to go to school with me tomorrow. I'm heading back for today."

Sensing the situation wasn't in his favor, William Brooks knew when to back off. To avoid Brian Cooper getting angry and giving him another lesson like before, he quickly got up and slipped away.

William Brooks also had his own considerations.

William Brooks had never known his parents since birth and was raised by a Daoist priest from the Longmen Daoist Sect, so he had a special fondness for humans. Later, after joining the Longmen Daoist Sect, he became even more protective of humans. That's why, as soon as he discovered Brian Cooper was a demon, he rushed over to warn him. Later, when he realized Brian Cooper wasn't the vicious type, he wanted to get his help to maintain peace in the human world. After all, human cultivators, due to their own prejudices, didn't see him as one of their own, and demons rarely banded together. Sometimes he felt quite lonely and wanted a companion.

Walking down the street, William Brooks couldn't think of any way to deal with Brian Cooper. Although Brian Cooper wasn't exactly easy to get along with, for now, he could barely consider him a friend, so Brian Cooper still tolerated him. Just now, he had only tried to scare him and hadn't really done anything. But persuading him to help out wouldn't be so easy. Brian Cooper just wasn't buying it.

By the time William Brooks left, the city lights were already coming on, and he felt a bit bored. Doing anything alone was dull, so instead of going home, he just wandered the streets to clear his mind.

Meanwhile, at home alone, Brian Cooper looked at himself and sighed, muttering to himself, "What have I been doing these past few days? I've gotten a bit lazy. I'm over seven thousand years old and still playing games. No wonder William Brooks says that about me. I don't have time to help others, but maybe organizing the little demons here into a sect wouldn't be a bad idea."

Just as Brian Cooper was reflecting, he suddenly sensed something was wrong. Wasn't this demonic aura from William Brooks? What was going on? There were several other strong auras surrounding him, and it seemed a fight was happening. The one in danger was William Brooks; otherwise, Brian Cooper wouldn't have noticed.

"Could he have run into trouble right after leaving me?"

"I'd better go take a look."

Using his primordial spirit to investigate, Brian Cooper quickly sensed the demonic energy fluctuations in the development zone. "I wonder why he went there. I'll go check it out." With a relaxed attitude, Brian Cooper left the house. With his cultivation, he didn't need to open doors or windows—he simply passed through the wall, and as soon as he touched the outside air, he vanished without a trace.
