Chapter 15

At noon after school, Brian Cooper actually didn’t see William Brooks. It seemed that as soon as class ended, he saw him leave with a girl, and of course he wouldn’t go looking for them. But what he didn’t expect was that he himself would be stopped by someone.

Those people looked quite friendly on the outside. After greeting him, they surrounded Brian Cooper and escorted him out. There were four of them—three boys and one girl. As soon as they closed in, Brian Cooper knew exactly what kind of people they were.

On his left was a tall, thin boy, rather handsome, with a scholarly and delicate look, seemingly a bookish student. But the yellow paper he clenched in his hand—who knew what kind of talisman it was—radiated a spiritual aura. On his right was someone from his own class, but since Brian Cooper had never paid attention, he didn’t know his name. The ornament on his keychain was small, but it was indeed a millennium-old peachwood sword. The girl behind him was pushing his back, and the energy in her hand was clearly authentic Daoist inner power. As for the handsome guy in front of him, smiling kindly, although his hand gestures were strange and Brian Cooper didn’t recognize them, he guessed that the mudra in the smiling guy’s hand was definitely a Buddhist demon-subduing seal.

Although a bit puzzled, a sudden surge of curiosity made him want to see what they were up to, so Brian Cooper didn’t resist.

After a few twists and turns, the four of them brought Brian Cooper to a secluded residence. He didn’t know whose home it was among the four. It was a two-bedroom apartment, simply furnished, showing the style of an unpretentious city home.

The first to speak was the handsome guy, who said with a friendly smile, “We hope to avoid any unnecessary conflict with you and wish for everyone to get along peacefully. Let me introduce ourselves: I’m David Harris, the one in your class is Henry Ford, the other is James Bennett, both James Bennett and I are in third year, and the girl behind you is your senior, a second-year named Emily Moore.”

Before speaking, the handsome guy released his hold on Brian Cooper. Now free, Brian Cooper didn’t stand on ceremony. Without replying, he glanced around, quickly spotted the fridge, strolled over, took out a can of Coke, sat down on the sofa, popped it open, and took a big gulp. He was completely at ease, almost putting his feet up.

Emily Moore was not so polite: “You? Who do you think owns this place?”

“Your house, isn’t it? Is there any doubt?” Brian Cooper replied calmly. After all, these four posed no threat to him, so he didn’t care. Judging by their reactions, this was indeed Emily Moore’s home.

Taking another sip of Coke, tilting his head, Brian Cooper said in a low voice, “If you put your surnames together, it spells ‘何方妖魔’ (what kind of demons).”

“That’s right, and that’s our first question.” Henry Ford said with a smile. Since Brian Cooper was so relaxed, they eased up as well, and Henry Ford even started joking.

“How did you spot me?” Brian Cooper was confident that no one could see through his current disguise; even that female paladin couldn’t tell.

Emily Moore smiled smugly and flashed a small mirror in her hand, made of bronze, with an ancient and elegant design. Strange patterns adorned the edges, and a misty light shimmered on the surface, clearly not an ordinary object.

“A demon-revealing mirror.”

Brian Cooper finally understood why he’d been seen through again. Under the demon-revealing mirror, no demon in the world could hide—nothing more to say.

“Aren’t you going to answer our question first?” James Bennett, who had been silent, urged impatiently.

“Damn, who do you think you are? You think you have the right to talk to me like that?” Brian Cooper was not someone to be trifled with, and he’d never liked these demon-hunting cultivators, so he didn’t bother to be polite.

“You…”

James Bennett raised his hands, holding four talismans in each, about to make a move, but Emily Moore grabbed his hand and shouted, “This is my house! What are you doing?”

“I just can’t stand this kind of demon. If it were up to me, I’d just kill him and be done with it. What’s there to talk about?” James Bennett withdrew his hands, disgruntled.

Brian Cooper frowned, feeling a bit annoyed. “Was William Brooks also taken away by your group? You’d better make sure nothing happens to him, or else…”

“Or else what?” The speaker wasn’t anyone in the room, but someone outside the door. The voice was crisp and clearly a young woman, with a rather proud tone.

“If you think you’re so great, let’s find a place to compete.” The girl who walked in as she spoke—if not for her voice and the curvaceous figure beneath her clothes, Brian Cooper might have mistaken her for a stunningly handsome guy. She was about 1.7 meters tall, even taller than Brian Cooper, with short hair cut to her ears, a fitted top, jeans, and light casual shoes. Her movements were cool and graceful, making Brian Cooper stare. Brian Cooper had been wise since birth and knew cultivation, but after thousands of years, he was still a virgin and had never interacted with women. Now, seeing such a unique and striking girl, he was quite intrigued.

But it was William Brooks, following behind the girl, who eased the tension: “It’s a misunderstanding, everyone. Old Yue, I’m fine. I just went out to chat with Grace Bennett for a bit. Don’t get so worked up.”

“Hmph! That loudmouthed brat—do you have the guts to go outside and have a match?” The cool, beautiful girl Grace Bennett who had just come in was also annoyed. This arrogant demon kept staring at her, making her angry.
