William Clark slipped under his feet, his body pitching forward as he fell, landing right in the filthy water. Before he could get up, a whistling sound came from behind, and ten sharp objects stabbed directly into the muscles of his back.
“Hiss…”
The stabbing pain made William Clark suck in a cold breath, and the weight on his back pressed him down into the sewage again, just as he was trying to push himself up.
“Rip…”
The female office worker’s ten sharp fingernails slid down William Clark’s back, leaving ten bloody gashes and tearing off a large chunk of flesh from his back. As William Clark endured the intense pain, he grabbed a steel bar protruding nearby, forced his body to the side, and yanked the steel bar out, swinging it across the female office worker’s neck.
“Bang!”
The female office worker pressed down, clearly trying to crush William Clark to death, but fortunately the steel bar wedged between them absorbed her force and pulled her off to William Clark’s left. She rolled off William Clark and crashed into the mud.
“Goddammit!”
William Clark quickly scrambled up, grabbed a chunk of concrete from the roadside, and as the female office worker was about to get up, he smashed it down hard on her head.
To be honest, if it were anyone else in this situation, they probably wouldn’t fare any better than that driver who wet himself in the car. But William Clark was different. He straddled the female office worker’s back, relentlessly pounding her head with the concrete block.
Her head was so hard;
This made a word pop into William Clark’s mind: zombie!
But fortunately, this female office worker didn’t seem to be the kind of zombie from Hong Kong movies. Under his constant hammering, the back of her head was already caved in, and her face pressed against the stone floor was probably a horrific mess by now.
However, just as William Clark thought he could finish off this threat himself, the female office worker suddenly lifted both legs, her whole body flipping into a bizarre head-down, feet-up position.
William Clark, who had been straddling her, was thrown forward onto the ground, and the concrete block in his hand flew off to the side. The situation had turned again. At that moment, on the second floor of an unfinished building, a woman in an apron appeared, shining a flashlight in this direction. The beam hit William Clark’s face, making it hard for him to open his eyes, but he still heard the woman shout:
“Hurry up, come up here!”
At this point, there was no time to think. The female office worker’s corpse was becoming more and more sinister. William Clark dashed into the unfinished building and ran straight up the bare concrete stairs.
When he reached the second floor, the woman shoved the flashlight into William Clark’s hand and shouted, “Quick, go inside, hide under the bed. Once you’re under the bed, she won’t be able to find you.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she hurried down the stairs William Clark had just come up, looking very rushed.
William Clark suddenly felt the woman looked familiar, but in the pitch dark, with only a shaky flashlight, he couldn’t make out her face. He had no choice but to keep moving inward.
The unfinished building was drafty, with no doors or windows installed, just pitch-black square holes everywhere.
But inside, there was some simple furniture: chairs, cabinets, and… a bed!
“Quick, go inside, hide under the bed. Once you’re under the bed, she won’t be able to find you.”
William Clark’s mind echoed with the woman’s words.
In this environment, in this eerie atmosphere, it seemed there weren’t many options.
“Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!…”
Heavy footsteps were already coming up the stairs outside, and the temperature around was steadily dropping. The female office worker was coming up!
William Clark crouched down, then lay flat on the ground, sliding sideways under the bed. It was dusty underneath, making him want to cough. At the same time, William Clark noticed there were banners and big-character posters stored under the bed, but the “thud thud thud” of footsteps outside was so clear and getting closer that he had no time to look at them. He quickly turned off the flashlight.
He took a deep breath, then held it.
According to movie logic, zombies are supposed to find people by sensing their breath, right? Although William Clark didn’t know if holding his breath would actually work, he figured he should at least try.
“Thud! Thud! Thud!”
The footsteps grew clearer and closer. The female office worker had come up the stairs and turned into this room.
“Thud! Thud! Thud!”
William Clark could feel the floor vibrating. She was coming, and heading straight for the bed.
His fingers clenched tightly together,
Hoping that the woman was right.
“Thud! Thud! Thud!”
Closer, closer,
She’s here, she’s here,
William Clark could even feel the cold air from outside brushing his face, damp and icy.
Then, the female office worker seemed to stop right beside the bed.
She stopped moving!
