Chapter 15

“They’re basically wiping their daughter’s butt for her.” On the way back, Gordon said while driving. “Corey is just like an iceberg, sitting there with a cold aura radiating all around her. Even I felt like the temperature in the room dropped a few degrees.”

After Logan Grant asked, “Who is Kaka?”, the starstruck look on Corey’s face immediately froze, as if she’d been put on ice.

After that, Corey’s attitude toward Logan Grant obviously became much colder.

She put the poster back in her bag, didn’t say another word to Logan Grant, and went straight upstairs.

It wasn’t until dinner that her mother coaxed her to come down. But even then, sitting across from Logan Grant, she treated him like air, completely ignoring his presence.

“But I really don’t know who Kaka is.” Logan Grant spread his hands, looking innocent.

“But in Corey’s eyes, you’re insulting her idol. Do you know why Corey supports São Paulo? Because she likes Kaka—she’s crazy about him. You’ve never been in her room… from the walls to the ceiling, from the bed to the desk, it’s all Kaka. Did you notice the clothes she was wearing when she came back just now? That was Kaka’s São Paulo jersey, number 8.” Gordon clicked his tongue in amazement. For someone to be this obsessed with a football star—even as a die-hard fan himself, he found it a bit much. After all, Kaka only burst onto the scene last year; he hasn’t had years to build up a fanbase. It just shows how crazy these young girls are nowadays, and also how popular Kaka is right now.

“By the way, do you really not know who Kaka is? I mentioned him to you on the day of the trial… I thought once you got to São Paulo, you’d hear his name all the time.”

Logan Grant shot back, “Why do I have to know who he is?” There was a hint of irritation in his tone.

Everyone kept saying, “You really don’t know who Kaka is?” “You actually don’t know who Kaka is?” At sixteen, he was starting to feel a bit rebellious.

Gordon was taken aback for a moment, picking up on something in Logan Grant’s unfriendly tone, then he laughed: “No one says you have to know, but since you’re in São Paulo, you should at least know a bit about him. He’s the most successful youth player São Paulo has produced in recent years—he’s your senior. Just a year ago, he was still an unknown player in the São Paulo youth team. But now, he’s the hottest young star in all of São Paulo state… no, maybe all of Brazil. Why is everyone talking about Kaka? Because he’s impossible to ignore. So when you say ‘Who is Kaka,’ Corey doesn’t think you really don’t know—she thinks you’re deliberately belittling him.”

Logan Grant pouted. “One day, I’ll make everyone talk about my name too.”

Gordon burst out laughing. “That’s the spirit I like, Grant! Starting football at sixteen, learning the game—most people would write you off just because of your age, say you’ll never make it. But you have to prove them all wrong! Prove it to Corinthians, prove it to all those teams that rejected you!”

Speaking of Corinthians, this Corinthians supporter couldn’t help but grit his teeth.

He loved Corinthians, but that didn’t conflict with his current feelings. As a fan, he loved Corinthians. But as an agent, he held a grudge—because Corinthians had actually rejected his most promising player!

“Don’t worry, Gordon. I followed you from the village to Brazil, and I never planned on going back with my tail between my legs!”

Logan Grant clenched his fist.

……

“Evelyn Bennett! That’s way too rude! No matter what, Logan Grant is our guest! What kind of attitude is that, ignoring him like this?”

In Howard Bennett’s villa, Howard Bennett was scolding his headstrong daughter. Of course, if he could actually discipline her, she wouldn’t be called “headstrong”…

“Who told him to insult my idol?” Evelyn Bennett, also known as Corey Bennett, sat cross-legged on the sofa, looking up at the ceiling, pouting, and seeming even more upset than her angry father.

“How did he insult anyone? Logan Grant only started playing football at sixteen—before that, he didn’t know anything about it. Isn’t it normal that he doesn’t know who Kaka is?” Her mother, Jennifer Lewis, was much gentler, patiently explaining things to her daughter.

Hearing this, Corey was shocked. “He only started playing football at sixteen? Then how could he possibly get into the São Paulo youth team? The team that produced Kaka has fallen so far that even a total rookie can get in?”

Howard Bennett was so exasperated he was speechless.

“Logan Grant isn’t a rookie, Gordon said so himself—he’s a genius.” In this regard, Mom was more patient.

“Fat Uncle? His judgment…” Corey stroked her chin with a mature look, clearly unconvinced.

On this point, both Howard Bennett and his wife had nothing to say. After all, Gordon’s judgment really wasn’t that great—otherwise, why hadn’t any of his players made it big?

But… that wasn’t a reason to back down in front of their daughter.
