Sarah Young had just finished saying she wasn’t going, when David Thompson suddenly spat and gave a disdainful smirk, which really made Sarah Young angry.
After all, she was still young and didn’t have the sophistication of those women in society. Sarah Young’s delicate, pretty face darkened slightly as she said coldly, “David Thompson, what do you mean by that?”
David Thompson was snapped out of his thoughts and looked up, confused.
William Clark looked a bit embarrassed and tugged at David Thompson’s clothes, signaling him to stop talking.
Chapter 4 David Thompson’s Invitation
The atmosphere was a bit awkward.
Evelyn Brooks quickly tried to smooth things over, saying, “Xiaoxue, don’t take him too seriously, this guy…”
“No need to make excuses for him!”
Seeing David Thompson’s indifferent attitude, Sarah Young grew even angrier and said coldly, “David Thompson, I don’t know how I offended you. You’ve given me attitude several times—do I owe you something or what? Whether I go out or not is my own business. What right do you have to give me that face?”
After saying this, Sarah Young’s eyes turned red. She had been holding a grudge against David Thompson for a long time, and this time she finally exploded.
Normally, even if David Thompson ignored her, she wouldn’t care. After all, she had plenty of admirers and men trying to please her.
But for some reason, every time David Thompson saw her, he acted like she was his enemy—either sneering or curling his lip. Plus, they sat at adjacent desks, so for months she hadn’t dared to turn around, afraid of seeing David Thompson’s lifeless, cold face.
Having been pampered since childhood, Sarah Young couldn’t stand this, especially since she’d almost never encountered a man who gave her the cold shoulder.
Her voice was a bit loud, and all the classmates’ eyes instantly turned toward them.
Especially the boys—they looked like they wanted to kill David Thompson. David Thompson was a bit stunned, and also felt awkward and annoyed.
He didn’t feel he’d done anything wrong. He hadn’t even been thinking about Sarah Young just now, so if she misunderstood, there was nothing he could do.
As for the “attitude” Sarah Young mentioned, David Thompson felt even more wronged!
Even if he didn’t like Sarah Young, he wouldn’t give a pretty girl the cold shoulder. The key was that David Thompson’s indifference contrasted with the enthusiasm of the other boys in class, which made Sarah Young feel like he was giving her attitude.
Now, seeing the girl about to cry, David Thompson, who had the mentality of a thirty-year-old, could only say dryly, “Uh, I didn’t mean it like that…”
Seeing Sarah Young still glaring at him, David Thompson could only shake his head and sigh, “Alright, alright, I was wrong. I’m sorry. From now on, whenever I see you, I’ll give you a big smile, okay?”
With that, he bared his teeth in a huge grin, thinking to himself that pretty women really are trouble. Our Hannah Quinn is much better—though who knows when Hannah Quinn became “ours.”
David Thompson’s words and actions almost made Sarah Young laugh, and her grievance vanished as quickly as it had come.
Not wanting to be laughed at, she ignored David Thompson, huffed, and turned away from him.
“Weirdo!”
He muttered softly, and seeing everyone still staring at him, David Thompson wasn’t afraid. He snorted, “What are you all looking at? What, you want to fight me? None of you even have any muscle, and you want to take me on? I’ve been fighting since I was a kid and never backed down. Want to go a few rounds?”
David Thompson rattled off a string of insults, but in truth, few dared to mess with someone as tough as him.
Most students in the top class at No. 1 High were good kids. Even the few who were a bit rebellious didn’t want to stick their necks out.
Everyone knew what kind of person David Thompson was—he’d grown up in the market, surrounded by all sorts of people.
And he wasn’t bragging—he’d really been in plenty of fights since he was little.
If you really tangled with David Thompson, not only would it look bad, but even if you managed to beat him up, so what? You’d still have to watch out for him getting revenge later. It wouldn’t be the first time.
Once the teacher entered the classroom, the matter was over. With the college entrance exam approaching, no one wanted to stir up trouble.
……
The whole day’s classes passed quickly for the distracted David Thompson. As soon as school was out, he shot out of the classroom like his seat was on fire.
Behind him, William Clark hurriedly called out, “Dongzi, see you at Oriental Plaza at seven! Don’t forget!”
“Got it!”
As his voice faded, David Thompson was already gone.
While packing up her books, Sarah Young seemed to think of something. She turned to William Clark and asked, “Where are you guys meeting? I’ll see if I have time. If I’m not busy, maybe I’ll come by.”
No wonder David Thompson said Sarah Young liked to put on an act. She clearly wanted to go, but insisted on saying she’d “see if she had time.” They were all students, and there was no evening self-study—how could she not have time?
But William Clark didn’t care about that. Hearing this, he was overjoyed and quickly said, “Right at the west gate from No. 1 High to the plaza. Meet at seven!”
“Okay, got it.”
Sarah Young replied coolly, ignored William Clark, and soon walked away, leaving him looking after her expectantly.
……
“Hey, Hannah Quinn, want to go hang out at Oriental Plaza tonight?”
“No.”
“Why not? You got something to do tonight?”
“Even if I’m free, I’m not going. David Thompson, are you trying to get back at me?”
