Chapter 8

Hannah Quinn rolled her eyes and said irritably, “Yesterday we were still enemies, and today you’re so eager to invite me out. Tell me, should I go? No one is nice for no reason—you definitely have something up your sleeve!”

“Hehe, Hannah…”

“Stop!”

Hannah Quinn twisted her slender, fair neck uncomfortably and said with disdain, “You’re giving me goosebumps, David Thompson. Are you trying to hit on me?”

As she spoke, she stared suspiciously at David Thompson. In the past, even though David Thompson sometimes pestered her, it was usually with long intervals in between—unlike now, when he’d come two days in a row.

David Thompson gave a dry laugh. The old man was indeed feeling a bit lovesick, but being looked at with such disdain by a young girl was rather embarrassing.

Still, considering he was a high-class, sophisticated reborn person, he couldn’t lose his composure.

So he said, “Listen to yourself. Didn’t you say yesterday that we’re good friends? Of course I’d think of you when going out with friends. Besides, didn’t we laugh off our grudges yesterday? I’m not holding a grudge, but you still remember—so petty!”

“Tch!”

Hannah Quinn didn’t believe David Thompson at all and joked, “Forget it, I won’t bother with you! I just happen to be free, so I’ll reluctantly go with you tonight.”

“Alright, I’ll wait for you at your door in a bit.”

With that, David Thompson ran off happily, and from a distance, Hannah Quinn seemed to see David Thompson take a big tumble.

Sure enough, David Thompson was unlucky as ever—he hadn’t gone far before he tripped over a stone and fell flat on his face.

But David Thompson, who was used to falling, didn’t mind at all and was still in high spirits.

For some reason, he kept thinking about Hannah Quinn today. The old man’s spring fever was out of control, and with his thick skin, he ran to the alley after school to wait for Hannah Quinn to pass by.

Inviting Hannah Quinn out was a spur-of-the-moment idea, and he hadn’t expected her to actually agree. No wonder David Thompson was so excited.

After a quick tidy-up at home, a shower, and a change of clothes, David Thompson looked in the mirror and felt he looked much more handsome. Satisfied, he pocketed his 134.5 yuan and headed to Hannah Quinn’s house.

Don’t ask how David Thompson knew where she lived—after hanging out together for five or six years, if he didn’t know that, he’d have wasted his time.

When he arrived downstairs at Hannah Quinn’s building, he saw that her neighborhood was a bit newer than his, but not exactly upscale.

In a small county town, no residential complex is that fancy—unless it’s one of those villas in the suburbs.

After waiting about ten minutes, David Thompson saw Hannah Quinn come running down the stairs in a white tracksuit and little sneakers.

At that moment, David Thompson really felt his heart skip a beat. If during the day he was an old man with spring fever, now he was a young boy experiencing the rush of first love.

“Hey! If you keep staring, your drool’s about to drip!”

Hannah Quinn’s teasing snapped David Thompson out of his daydream. He quickly wiped his mouth, realized it was a bit awkward, and forced a laugh, “My mouth’s a bit dry. I’ll buy some fruit to eat later.”

“Pfft!”

Hannah Quinn burst out laughing. “Excuses, excuses. I’m as beautiful as a flower—it’s only natural you’d drool.”

“Narcissist! I really am just thirsty!”

The two bickered and laughed as they walked toward Dongfang Square. The city wasn’t big, and it only took about ten minutes to walk from the Qin house to Dongfang Square.

Soon, they saw William Clark waiting by the west gate. Although Hannah Quinn wasn’t in the same class, a beauty like her wasn’t a stranger to William Clark.

Seeing that David Thompson had even brought Hannah Quinn, William Clark secretly gave him a thumbs-up in admiration.

David Thompson looked smug and cheerfully introduced, “This is my deskmate, William Clark. You can just call him Watermelon Head.”

“Hehe, hi, classmate Wang. No need to guess, that nickname must be from David Thompson. He just loves giving people nicknames.”

Hannah Quinn wasn’t shy at all. She greeted William Clark with a smile and immediately started asking him about David Thompson’s embarrassing stories in class.

William Clark was eager to chat with a beauty, and in no time, he’d spilled all of David Thompson’s secrets.

David Thompson stood by, completely unconcerned. After all, his three years of high school only had so many silly stories—nothing worth making a fuss over. With his thick skin, he didn’t care at all.

It wasn’t until William Clark mentioned Sarah Young’s outburst today, and Hannah Quinn started prying for details, that David Thompson felt something was off and quickly interrupted, “What nonsense are you talking about? Wasn’t Evelyn Brooks supposed to come? Why isn’t she here?”

“She’s coming—look!”

William Clark pointed to Evelyn Brooks and Sarah Young walking over together in the distance.

David Thompson frowned slightly, a bit displeased. “Didn’t Sarah Young say she wasn’t coming? Why is she here now?”

He’d originally hoped for William Clark and Evelyn Brooks to pair up, and for himself to team up with Hannah Quinn, but now it seemed things wouldn’t go as he wished.

William Clark shrugged. High IQ didn’t necessarily mean low EQ—Sarah Young coming today was definitely related to her argument with David Thompson that morning, and he had no intention of getting involved.

Hannah Quinn, standing by, also saw the two girls. The school wasn’t that big—one was known as the top arts beauty, the other as the top science beauty, both with top grades. There was no way they didn’t know each other.

As soon as Sarah Young and Evelyn Brooks arrived, Hannah Quinn squinted and greeted them with a smile, “Sarah Young, long time no see!”
