This left the entire The Foster Family in disbelief, overjoyed beyond measure.
Chad Sullivan showed no intention of taking credit; every day, he continued to stay in his small courtyard, reading, writing, and drawing.
The The Foster Family's attitude toward him also became somewhat complicated. Of course, they were happy that Yvonne Foster could recover, but after all, Chad Sullivan was just a stupid and dull poor country boy, not even worthy of Yvonne Foster's little finger.
As a result, the servants and maids of the The Foster Family gossiped more and more. Phrases like "a toad wanting to eat swan meat" and "a poor boy with delusional dreams" were often heard, and the contempt in the servants' eyes toward Chad Sullivan became increasingly blatant.
The food delivered to him also got worse and worse. At first, it was cold; later, it simply became spoiled. Although Chad Sullivan came from a poor background, his parents had doted on him since childhood, so eating in the wealthy The Foster Family was actually worse than eating at his rural home.
Not only that, he was even driven to live in the woodshed, without even a bed—just a mat spread on the floor.
Chad Sullivan, being slow-witted and simple-minded, would never complain or report anyone. Even when bullied, he would just silently endure it.
Later, Yvonne Foster found out and flew into a rage, ordering the servants who had mistreated Chad Sullivan to be punished, each receiving more than a dozen lashes. She also publicly announced that if anyone dared to bully Chad Sullivan again, they would be expelled from the The Foster Family immediately.
So Chad Sullivan returned to living in a luxurious courtyard, and his meals became excellent every day. In fact, every couple of days, Yvonne Foster would come to talk to him. These days felt like paradise to Chad Sullivan.
Although in the few months since their marriage, not to mention sharing a bed, he hadn't even touched a single finger of his wife Yvonne Foster. But as long as he could see her often and hear her voice, Chad Sullivan already felt incredibly satisfied and happy.
But just half a month ago, Chad Sullivan suddenly fell seriously ill. Yvonne Foster found several famous doctors for him, but none could cure him, nor could they even tell what illness he had. He grew weaker by the day, on the verge of death.
Until today, when he finally breathed his last, allowing the soul of Earth’s Chad Sullivan to cross over and take possession of this body.
So, his short life was a complete tragedy—a foolish tragedy at that!
……
Chad Sullivan sighed inwardly.
Then, he discovered that besides the memories of the two people in his mind, there was actually something else.
Something full of magical and mysterious qualities. He couldn't help but focus his mind, wanting to explore it within his head.
Just then, footsteps sounded outside.
"This useless fool should be dead by now, right? He really held on, lasting so many days before dying!"
"Good thing he's dead, so he won't hold up our young lady anymore."
"Yeah, such a worthless good-for-nothing, and a poor country boy at that, even dreaming of marrying our young lady? How could his lowly life bear such fortune? Sure enough, his fate was cut short."
"But even if he died, it was worth it. Our young lady is like someone from the heavens, caring for him every day, attentive in every way."
"Our young lady is just so kind-hearted. To think she could chat with someone like him, who’s clearly not right in the head, for half an hour every day."
Yvonne Foster had once ordered that no one was to bully Chad Sullivan, or they would be expelled from the The Foster Family. So before, these servants and maids didn't dare to mock Chad Sullivan like this. But seeing that Chad Sullivan was about to die and couldn't hear them, they gradually grew bolder.
These servants and maids laughed and mocked as they opened the door. Every half hour, they had to come in to check on Chad Sullivan's body.
"Go see if he's breathed his last yet!" After entering, one maid pinched her nose and said.
The very next second, this maid let out a startled cry, staring at Chad Sullivan in disbelief.
Just over half an hour ago, she had checked and Chad Sullivan was barely breathing, his face full of deathly pallor. Now, not only was he not dead, but he was sitting upright on the bed. Though still weak, he actually looked somewhat spirited.
"You—you’re not dead?" the maid blurted out.
"That's right, I'm not dead," Chad Sullivan replied.
The servants stared at his face in shock. After a long moment, the lead maid said, "Hurry and tell the master, tell the young lady, Chad Sullivan isn't dead."
Then, the servants and maids hurried out.
……
Chapter 4: This Golden Finger Is a Bit Embarrassing
About a quarter of an hour later, a doctor came in, brought by Butler Foster.
He checked Chad Sullivan's eyes and took his pulse. After a long while, he exclaimed in surprise, "How strange! Such a serious illness, on the verge of death, and yet he recovered for no reason!"
The butler beside him said, "Dr. Thompson, is Chad Sullivan's body really all right now?"
"Yes, he's out of danger," Dr. Thompson replied.
Butler Foster also smiled and said, "Dr. Thompson, your medical skills are truly superb—bringing the dead back to life."
Dr. Thompson hesitated for a moment and said, "It was just a stroke of luck for this old man."
Butler Foster said, "Chad Sullivan, take good care of yourself."
Then, he left the room with Dr. Thompson.
Chad Sullivan got out of bed and stood in front of the mirror, carefully examining his new self.
He really was very handsome. Though weak, he was full of youthful energy.
