“Damn it, I’ve forgotten who I am too. Anyway, just remember that I’m a very famous person, and an absolute master. Back in the day, little nobodies like you would be begging and crying to become my disciple.”
“And then?” Brian Carter raised his eyebrows. These days, masters are as common as dogs. Even his old man bragged all the time, and now, after finally getting away from him, he still runs into someone like this in a place like this.
“Then, kid, I’m giving you a chance. If you get down and kowtow a hundred times, maybe I’ll consider teaching you a move or two.”
The middle-aged braggart who’d forgotten who he was seemed to have shaken off the depression of amnesia.
“Kowtow to your face.” Brian Carter looked at Black Charcoal. “Have you ever seen this kind of spatial crystal? What’s going on here?”
But Black Charcoal had no reaction at all, as if he hadn’t seen anything.
Chapter 6: “Peasant” Genes
“Kid, don’t bother. Only you can see me. Damn it, who the hell locked me in here? I can’t remember… Tsk… the Temple of War, I can’t recall. Anyway, the fact that you could activate this binding array means we’re fated.” The middle-aged man struggled a bit, his memory coming in fits and starts, but it was clear he was the type who wouldn’t worry about such trivial matters.
“Activate?”
“That’s right. The genes in your blood are very pure.”
Brian Carter laughed. “So you’re saying my genes are excellent, haha! I knew I was destined for greatness!”
“Bullshit. It just means your ancestors for eight generations were all peasants. In this day and age, anyone with a bit of money would have had their genes modified.”
Once again, the middle-aged uncle mercilessly crushed Brian Carter’s self-satisfaction.
Brian Carter curled his lip. “I don’t even have parents, let alone eight generations of ancestors.”
The middle-aged uncle was a bit taken aback. “Ahem, forget it. ‘Are lords and nobles born to it?’ As long as I teach you a few moves, you’ll be able to run rampant across the world. By the way, what year is it now?”
“2565. We’re in a mine on Norton Star in the Sagittarius constellation, surrounded by the Zago tribe.”
“2565… Damn, I can’t remember. What’s so scary about a bunch of damn bugs? Just fight our way out. Even a million Zago troops are nothing. Back in the day… I… can’t remember.” The middle-aged man’s expression kept shifting between master and fool, making Brian Carter want to bang his head against the wall.
“Uncle, can you crush another ant?” Brian Carter asked.
Boom…
In a flash of light, it seemed like something exploded around the middle-aged man, forming a hurricane. But the problem was, it was all just for show—none of that power actually came through.
After a few tries, the middle-aged man could only give up in frustration. “Kid, how about we make a deal? I’ll teach you kung fu, and you take me to find the Temple of War. I vaguely remember I have something to do with the Temple of War here. Maybe those idiots are the ones who locked me up!”
“Uncle, grandpa, do you even know what the Temple of War is?” Brian Carter looked at him like he was an idiot, muttering to himself. Even a three-year-old knows the Temple of War was left behind by the Blade Warrior, a truly godlike place. It holds the secrets of invincibility and immortality. Unfortunately, the real temple exists in the elusive subspace, and it’s said only the descendants of General David Thompson have a chance to enter.
But honestly, even though he couldn’t sense any attack, judging by the middle-aged man’s mental storm, he really did seem like a master, though Brian Carter didn’t understand the ranking system.
“Whatever, this deal is a good one for you. If you find the Temple of War, you’ll complete your mission, and I’ll teach you a set of techniques as a reward. How about it?”
The middle-aged man seemed very determined to teach Brian Carter.
Brian Carter thought for a moment. “Why do you keep wanting to teach me techniques? Are you that eager to take on a disciple, or is there some kind of scheme?”
Beware sweet words and the dark world.
That was another of the old man’s golden sayings. Every time he got swindled out of his money, he’d sigh like that.
“Yeah, why am I like this?” The middle-aged man was confused himself. It seemed this wasn’t his own intention, but something was compelling him to do it.
Soon, the middle-aged uncle snapped back to normal. “Whatever the reason, the stuff you’re practicing is garbage. You need traps just to deal with a low-level Zago, and you end up in such a mess. You’re disgracing human warriors. Back in the day…”
The “back in the day” he couldn’t remember. The middle-aged uncle waved his hand, not wanting to think about it anymore.
“Blade Technique.” Brian Carter said matter-of-factly. His sixteen-degree Blade Technique was way better than the ordinary eight-degree version.
“Blade Technique???” The middle-aged man stared at Brian Carter in shock, then burst out in hysterical laughter. “Ha, haha! If that’s the Blade Technique, then I’m the Blade Warrior!”
“It really is called the Blade Technique. The Blade Technique is the most widely practiced eighth brain domain technique among humans. Anyone can use it, whether their brain is awakened or not. It’s not just me calling it that. Besides, the normal one is only eight degrees. I have sixteen degrees.”
Brian Carter said angrily. He still respected the old man, even if he always exaggerated and never showed any real skill.
“Hmph.” The middle-aged man’s gaze seemed to pierce through Brian Carter. The operation of Brian Carter’s Blade Technique appeared in his eyes, as if it were completely transparent.
