Chapter 17

Brian Carter's request was very simple: he wanted to go to school and have his tuition waived. The official who received him agreed very readily—young people really are easy to deal with. The official gave him a letter of recommendation with the federal seal, and also promised that if he had any problems, he could go to the municipal department in his city for help.

The official smiled brightly and patted Brian Carter on the shoulder, praising him as a good citizen.

A good citizen?

Maybe. Brian Carter just wanted to go home as soon as possible.

Their return trip was not on the shabby spaceship they had come on. This time, the ship was steady and luxurious, with a movie theater, a café, billiards, and other entertainment facilities. They didn’t need to use the sleeping pods either. The return journey was like a vacation, with beautiful flight attendants serving them the whole way, letting them enjoy the trip of the wealthy.

Everyone was happy to be going home alive, and the Federation had promised them excellent conditions. It truly felt like a blessed life after surviving a disaster. The Federation also seemed eager to use them for publicity, to show how dedicated they were to saving every citizen. None of this interested Brian Carter.

Somehow, after leaving Norton Star, he felt a bit empty inside. After all, he had lived there for a year, and it had changed his life. Maybe one day, he would come back.

"Are you Brian Carter?" a pleasant female voice sounded in Brian Carter's ear. Actually, at this point, any human voice sounded pleasant to him—he was about to go crazy after listening to that coarse male tenor, seemingly the Martial God, all day long.

"And you are?" Brian Carter looked at the beautiful girl in front of him, feeling a bit dazzled. He couldn’t find the words to describe her.

The girl giggled, "I'm Emily Bolton. We just met not long ago—am I really that hard to remember?"

Sweat... At the time, Brian Carter had been too excited, only noticing that he was seeing a human. He hadn’t remembered anything else.

Chapter 11: The Rise and Fall of History

"Oh, Lieutenant Emily Bolton, you're here too."

"Hehe, I'm still a student, not an official soldier, so I was sent back as soon as the mission ended." Emily Bolton had a pair of beautiful, lively eyes, as if there were many treasures waiting to be discovered inside.

"What are you looking at?"

Only then did Brian Carter realize his rudeness. "Sorry, it's just that your eyes are so beautiful."

The military ranks were very strict. For a mere student to have the rank of lieutenant was already incredible, but Brian Carter didn’t know any of this—he just thought of Emily Bolton as an ordinary trainee officer.

"Thank you for the compliment."

"Are you an Eventian?"

"Yes. Are you from Earth?"

"Yeah. Do you live on Earth too?" There weren’t many Eventians on Earth, but nowadays it was hard to tell—almost everyone had undergone some degree of genetic modification. In fact, some of the early Eventians now valued heredity even more. Humanity was just that messy.

"No, I live on the Moon. The ship will stop over there, but I’ve never actually been—I really want to see it."

"The Moon, huh? That’s a paradise for the rich. I’m not interested," Brian Carter said with a smile. Although Earth was humanity’s mother planet, the Moon was the pinnacle of human technology. Even the shadowed regions of the Moon had become cities that never slept. With humanity’s powerful science and technology, there were no more blind spots on the Moon. Every inch of land was precious. For Earthlings to immigrate to the Moon, they had to be either rich or elite.

"You’re a strange one—even when you say things like that, you sound proud," Emily Bolton said curiously.

"Not at all, you must be imagining things." Brian Carter breathed in the faint fragrance from the beauty beside him, feeling utterly refreshed. Thank God, the human world was so much better than a bug nest.

"Xiao Jing, I’ve been looking all over for you. Ah, isn’t this... Brian Carter?" Leo Reese had a good memory. "Nice to see you."

"Me too. Thank you both again for saving me from hell," Brian Carter said sincerely.

"You’re too polite, it’s our duty. Xiao Jing, the captain is looking for you," Leo Reese said, his gaze gentle with a hint of hidden affection.

There was no helping it—a girl like Emily Bolton was bound to have plenty of admirers.

Emily Bolton seemed to want to chat with Brian Carter a bit longer, but when she heard the captain needed her, she got up and left. Leo Reese smiled at Brian Carter and went off to his own business. It seemed his status wasn’t low either.

Watching the group of middle-aged men laughing and joking, Brian Carter boredly returned to his room. He was too young to fit in with their crowd.

His room was still the most comfortable—much better than a coffin-like sleeping pod. It even had a private bathroom. It seemed the Federation’s service was truly top-notch. A ticket like this was something Brian Carter could never have dreamed of before.

"Heh heh, kid, that girl’s not bad. You should consider her."

"If you keep quiet, no one will think you’re mute." Brian Carter had promised the so-called Martial God that he’d let him out for some air when he had the chance.

"What’s there to be shy about? Judging by your look, you must be a virgin. Women are meant to be pursued. Isn’t there a saying, something about flowers... damn, I can’t believe I forgot such an important line."

"Alright, alright, I know you’ve been cooped up for too long. Just deal with it yourself."
