Chapter 11

“A bit interesting, to actually simplify the Blade Edge Technique to this extent. There’s no power left in it at all. If Blade Warrior knew that his once-invincible Blade Edge Technique had become a cheap street trick, I wonder what he’d think. Time really is a terrifying thing. Kid, do you want to learn the real Blade Edge Technique?”

“Yes!” Brian Carter nodded without hesitation. Of course—if it really was the Blade Edge Technique that Blade Warrior once used to dominate the world, anyone in their right mind would want it. Blade Warrior is an eternal legend among humans. It was because of him that the mighty Zago race suffered an almost catastrophic blow. Some say that Blade Warrior was actually the embodiment of God, and the power he wielded was not even technology from the human era.

But could such a good thing really happen?

“What’s the condition?” Brian Carter knew there was no such thing as a free lunch.

The middle-aged man sighed. “No real condition. I want to leave this damned place, and to do that, I need you to leave as well. With your current strength, going out means certain death. If you die, I’ll be stuck here in this muddled imprisonment, never seeing the light of day. Forget it, let’s just get out first. Just let me out for some fresh air from time to time, that’s all I ask.”

“That’s no problem!” Brian Carter nodded. “Um, there’s something I’m not sure if I should ask…”

“Cut the crap. Be a man—no need to beat around the bush. Just say it.”

“Are you a villain?” Brian Carter asked tentatively.

…The atmosphere got a bit awkward…

Roar…

“I am a mighty, world-renowned, universally respected Martial God-level warrior! How could I be a villain? If you dare question my character again, I’ll beat you into a pulp!”

The middle-aged man in the light roared hysterically.

Brian Carter shrugged. Well, even if he’s not a villain, he’s pretty close—so impulsive and combative. But Brian Carter could sense that, deep down, this man wasn’t bad.

“OK, do I need to formally become your disciple? Should we start now?”

“I’ve made up my mind. No need for any formalities. I’ll teach you the technique. If you ever get the chance, help me get out. We’ll call it even.”

“Whatever, let’s start.” Brian Carter truly craved greater power—he was even a bit impatient.

“Very good. The source of human power is the spiritual sea. As long as it’s strong enough, you’ll have godlike power. The Blade Edge Technique is the ultimate method for cultivating the spiritual sea.”

“Are you Blade Warrior? You’re probably not, or I’d be disappointed.”

“Nonsense, of course I’m not!”

“Then how do you know the Blade Edge Technique? You’re not tricking me, are you? Besides, if the Blade Edge Technique is the number one technique in the world, how did you end up locked up here?”

Brian Carter fired off questions like a machine gun. Honestly, he was still a bit suspicious.

“Damn, you really are cautious. This is indeed the Blade Edge Technique, but it’s not the one I practiced. The reason I’m telling you is because this damned formation is forcing me to do so, and the Blade Edge Technique is right up there. If I don’t do it, the formation will make me miserable. What do you expect me to do?”

“Oh, you should’ve said so earlier. Anyway, I’m a lone wolf, stuck in a desperate situation. I’ll try any technique. Since you’re not famous, I’ll give you a nickname. Since you claim to be a Martial God-level expert but can’t prove it, I’ll call you Looks Like the Warrior.”

“What do you mean, Looks Like the Warrior? I am the real deal!”

“Don’t argue. A Martial God should have the bearing of one. If you can’t even handle a little teasing, what kind of Martial God are you?” Brian Carter was an expert at dealing with people like this—one sentence left Looks Like the Warrior speechless.

“Kid, this Blade Edge Technique is said to be humanity’s number one technique. Since Blade Warrior created it, probably no one has ever practiced it. I don’t know why it’s here, but I’ve looked at it—it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever seen. It’s not your sixteen levels, but two hundred and fifty-six. If you miss even one, it’s all for nothing. I’m just here to teach; how much you comprehend is up to you. Since this damned crystal chose you, there must be a reason.”

“Heh, I knew I was talented.”

Looks Like the Warrior gave Brian Carter a fierce look of disdain. In the light, a human figure appeared, densely covered with red dots—the complete two hundred and fifty-six gene core centers of the Blade Edge Technique.

Chapter 7: The Complete Blade Edge Technique!

Brian Carter found it a bit familiar. His own Blade Edge Technique seemed to be an infinitely simplified version of the real one. Every level he practiced corresponded to one of these two hundred and fifty-six small centers.

“See the flashing right hand? Start with the right hand!” Looks Like the Warrior said. “You need to focus your mind. Damn, never thought I’d be a teacher one day. Whatever, draw your spiritual power out from your spiritual sea.”

Whatever Looks Like the Warrior said, Brian Carter did. His spiritual power slowly flowed from his spiritual sea into the sixteen core points of his right hand.

“Focus. Now comes the hard part. The terrifying thing about the Blade Edge Technique is that it not only maximizes nuclear force, but also maximizes the coordination between spiritual power and gene nuclear force. Every level from here on will be incredibly difficult. Be mentally prepared!”

Looks Like the Warrior grew serious as well. He was curious about the Blade Edge Technique himself, but unless he gave up his own cultivation, it was impossible. Besides, practicing the Blade Edge Technique seemed to require certain conditions—otherwise, no matter how hard you tried, it wouldn’t work.

“Very good. First level—impact!”
