Chapter 14

Blood spurted from the neck like a fountain. The headless corpse continued flying on its sword for some distance before the sword’s light dimmed and vanished into the darkness.

Chapter 7: Three Lifetimes Like a Dream

After killing six people in a row, Brian Grant did not feel any sense of satisfaction from revenge—only a heaviness in his heart. Brian Grant did not feel any guilt after killing; he was only worried about whether he would face the punishment of the law. In this sense, Brian Grant considered himself rather cold-blooded.

After all, six people had died, and all of them were of unusual status. In these peaceful times, this was a shocking case. It was foreseeable that for a long time, the enforcers would not give up on solving it.

His calm nature allowed Brian Grant to quickly put aside unnecessary thoughts and strictly carry out his plan as intended.

The corpses of Eric Bolton, William Smith, and Mark Sullivan on Guanyun Peak all died miserably. Fortunately, the temperature on Guanyun Peak was extremely low, and their blood had already frozen solid. Brian Grant forced himself to endure the discomfort and thoroughly searched them.

He found three low-grade flying swords and several low-grade magical artifacts. Although their quality was not high, they were all quite valuable. On Eric Bolton, Brian Grant also discovered a storage earring.

The storage earring was hidden among Eric Bolton’s fourteen silver earrings. When not in use, it did not emit the slightest magical fluctuation and was crafted with great skill. If not for Brian Grant’s special sensitivity to divine runes, he would have almost missed this storage earring.

Brian Grant tried to open the storage earring, but the external lock-type formation blocked his attempt. Brian Grant frowned slightly. When repairing magical artifacts on the black market, he had seen several storage artifacts acquired through less-than-legitimate means. Without exception, all of them were impossible to open because of this lock-type formation.

A lock-type formation is a formation that can only be activated by a person’s unique incantation and aura. Generally, such formations are not of high grade, but due to their special nature, only the original owner of the artifact can activate them.

This is especially true for storage rings. Since they use a formation to create an independent space, if the formation is violently damaged, the independent space will shatter. That’s why these storage artifacts are so safe, convenient to carry, and widely used—they have always been essential for the wealthy and powerful.

But nothing is absolute. These lock-type formations can be broken. With Brian Grant’s mastery of divine rune formations, given enough time, such a low-grade formation could be cracked.

However, Brian Grant could not be sure there were no other special formations on this storage earring. Even a simple tracking formation would allow the enforcers to easily find Brian Grant.

But with Eric Bolton’s corpse here, things became much easier. With Eric Bolton’s cultivation, this custom storage artifact could only be bound by using his own blood. All Brian Grant needed was some of his life’s blood to open the storage ring.

Having spent years learning from Old Carter on the black market, Brian Grant was very familiar with all sorts of shady, third-rate tricks. Brian Grant’s ruthless blade had cut right next to Eric Bolton’s heart, and most of the heart in the body still retained a trace of vitality.

Brian Grant carefully extracted some heart blood. As the blood soaked in, the blood-bound formation slowly revealed itself, and Brian Grant easily opened the storage earring.

The storage space inside the earring was very small, only about two feet square, but it was filled with all sorts of miscellaneous items. There were some anonymous gold notes, a few exquisite magical artifacts, and some precious jade and bronze wares.

Having spent a long time mixing in the black market, Brian Grant could tell at a glance that these were genuine antiques. Judging by their appearance and material, they were all magical artifacts from ancient times. Although these antiques had long since lost any magical power, they were witnesses to history and their value was immeasurable.

Brian Grant made a rough estimate: these antiques and anonymous gold notes were worth at least ten million. Clearly, Eric Bolton was very security-conscious, keeping only the most valuable items in his storage space.

Eric Bolton’s wealth even surprised Brian Grant. Even after repeatedly overestimating Eric Bolton’s family background, the fact that the son of a mere law enforcement bureau chief could possess wealth in the tens of millions was still beyond Brian Grant’s expectations.

For a moment, Brian Grant was even tempted to keep all these things. Ten million in wealth would be enough for him to live comfortably for a lifetime, and he could leave a large inheritance for his children and grandchildren after his death.

Brian Grant shook his head and forcefully suppressed this tempting thought. Cautious and meticulous by nature, he did not want to leave even the slightest hidden danger for a moment’s greed.

Brian Grant stuffed all the valuable items, magical artifacts, and flying swords he had collected into the storage ring. After checking that nothing was left behind, Brian Grant rode his sword down the mountain.

From killing William Smith to cleaning up the scene, Brian Grant spent less than ten minutes in total. The whole affair, except for the unexpected incident with Mark Sullivan, went exactly according to Brian Grant’s plan. Although Mark Sullivan was an accident, fortunately it did not cause any major trouble. Overall, Brian Grant was quite satisfied with his performance. The only thing left was the aftermath. Brian Grant looked somewhat regretfully at the storage earring in his hand. After forcefully infusing it with magical power, he flicked his finger, and the silver earring shot out like a bullet.
