Linda Parker felt this guy was just way too relaxed—who did he think they were, anyway? Linda Parker forced down her anger and said, “I’m asking you, where were you on the night of August 11th?”
Brian Grant counted on his fingers and replied, “That day, during the day, the school held a farewell party for me. You didn’t go, but it was packed with people, flags waving, drums beating—the scene was, really, really quite spectacular!” Brian Grant seemed to think words alone couldn’t capture the moment, so both his hands gestured dramatically, his face full of intoxicated delight.
Linda Parker gritted her teeth and said, “I’m asking what you did that night.”
Brian Grant thought for a moment and said, “That day, I shook hands and took photos with the leaders, and then reported my valuable experiences of success to all the students…”
“I’m asking you about the night, the night! What did you do that night?” Linda Parker had never met anyone so long-winded; she was practically shouting.
Brian Grant looked at Linda Parker in shock, dazed for a moment before saying, “Don’t get so worked up, I haven’t gotten to the night yet.”
Linda Parker’s temple veins throbbed with anger, and her usually bright almond eyes were now full of murderous intent. If Linda Parker had Nascent Soul-level cultivation, Brian Grant would have been killed on the spot by the killing intent in her eyes. Only now did Linda Parker truly understand what the file meant by “unrestrained and careless in conduct.”
George Miller, seeing Linda Parker losing her composure, had to take over the record and said, “Let’s get to the point.”
Brian Grant said helplessly, “I am getting to the point. After the conference that day, I had an in-depth conversation with the leaders over drinks. I had a few too many, and that night, I just went to sleep. See, there’s a clear cause and effect here—if I don’t explain, how would you understand?”
George Miller could only nod. “So, you’re saying that on the night of August 11th, you were sleeping the whole time.”
Brian Grant replied seriously, “Technically, I wasn’t sleeping the whole time. I did get up once in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.”
“Uh…” George Miller also felt a bit muddled, organized his thoughts, and continued, “So that night, you didn’t go online? Didn’t log into the Illusion Demon Realm? You just slept? Is there anyone who can vouch for you?”
“Yes, I just slept. As for others! I’d have liked to find a girl to keep me company, but, alas, a man as dazzling, handsome, and cultured as me—those immature girls just don’t know how to appreciate it. No girls, and I wouldn’t look for a man either, I’m a very pure person. Life, ah, is truly as lonely as snow…” George Miller’s question made Brian Grant sigh with deep emotion.
George Miller interrupted Brian Grant, “So, on the night of August 11th, you were alone in your room sleeping, and there’s no one who can testify for you, right?”
Brian Grant wanted to say more, but seeing the looks from Linda Parker and George Miller weren’t right, he quickly and simply replied, “Yes.”
George Miller handed the record to Brian Grant and said, “Then please sign here.” The book-sized crystal recorder could not only record text at will, but also images and sound at the same time.
Brian Grant glanced over the record twice, found nothing wrong, and then pressed his finger on the signature spot. As his true energy flowed, he left behind his fingerprint and a mark of his spiritual sense.
After George Miller checked and found no issues, he stood up to take his leave. “If anything comes up, we’ll contact you again. Goodbye.”
Brian Grant politely said, “Please, stay a while longer…”
George Miller shook his head in refusal, said nothing more, and after leaving the room, flew away with Linda Parker on their swords.
Flying on their swords through the air, the cool wind calmed Linda Parker’s agitated heart. She said suspiciously, “Is that kid just pretending to be dumb?”
George Miller glanced back at Brian Grant, who was still waving goodbye from the balcony, and smiled, “Hard to say. But the detector shows he’s only at Qi Refining Level 3, and there’s not a trace of murderous aura on him. This matter probably has nothing to do with him.”
Linda Parker sighed in disappointment, “If only we could catch the culprit, we’d really make it big!”
Chapter 10: The Drastic Change of the Divine Soul
After seeing off the two enforcers, Brian Grant returned to his room and sat on the bed, lost in thought. The changes of the past few days felt like a dream; he needed time to process it all.
That day, after being overwhelmed by an endless, vast consciousness, Brian Grant had been in a wondrous, ethereal state. In the originally blank sea of consciousness, at some point, a deep, boundless starry sky had appeared.
Amidst the brilliance of billions of stars, Brian Grant’s shattered soul and the vast, grand consciousness gradually fused into one, and a brand new divine soul appeared in his sea of consciousness.
The divine soul is the core imprint of a person’s essence, energy, and spirit; its appearance is also a projection of one’s true heart. The newly formed divine soul still looked like Brian Grant, but its entire form was as clear as crystal, with tens of thousands of golden characters flowing quietly as radiant divine light.
The vast and mighty power rippled endlessly within the divine soul, yet it showed not a trace of tyranny or aggression; instead, it exuded an ethereal, mysterious, and profound sense of supreme Zen.
Within the clear and ethereal divine soul, that nearly infinite consciousness was re-understood.
There were three segments of memory within the consciousness. The first was an ordinary, mundane life on a blue planet. Next was the scripture explained by the yellow-robed old monk. Finally, the memory of the white-robed swordsman—he only remembered those silver eyes, filled with a sword intent capable of destroying the world.
