Chapter 4

Chad Sullivan stopped in his tracks, hands clasped behind his back, and said coldly, "Get out of my sight."

Samuel Clark shot him a venomous glare, not daring to utter a single word. He turned and left. The four burly men, though suffering from broken limbs and missing teeth, each sweating in pain, also gritted their teeth and departed.

Violet Bennett watched in silence, and only after these people had gone did she slowly say, "Why did you act first?"

Chad Sullivan spread his hands and said, "I was afraid you’d be too heavy-handed and kill them outright. That would be hard to explain."

A sharp glint flashed in Violet Bennett's eyes as she said, "They came here to bully us—should we just let them off so lightly?"

Chad Sullivan shook his head repeatedly. "Violet, you’re as clever as they come; you should know what I mean. Even if we join forces, we’re nothing compared to the Clark family. We can beat up Samuel Clark, but if we take his life, that’s a consequence we can’t bear."

Violet Bennett said angrily, "And what about my little brother? Is he just supposed to be bullied by him?"

Chad Sullivan hesitated for a moment, unconsciously glancing at Logan Bennett.

In that instant, a surge of hot blood rushed to his head. Although Chad Sullivan hadn’t meant anything special by it, Logan Bennett had already gleaned a lot from that look.

If it weren’t for his sister’s protection, he might really have been bullied for nothing, or even beaten to death with no one to care.

Violet Bennett immediately sensed the heat in her brother’s eyes. Her heart trembled, and she turned to shield him once more, whispering, "Little brother, don’t worry. I won’t let anyone bully you again."

Logan Bennett forced a smile. "Don’t worry, sister. I’m fine."

Violet Bennett looked up in surprise, her eyes growing even more worried. For some reason, she just had a feeling that something had changed in her brother. She didn’t know if this change was good or bad, but it left her with a rare sense of helplessness.

Chad Sullivan stepped forward and suddenly said, "Violet, do you remember what happened half a year ago, before we entered the swamp?" His expression was solemn. "Maybe you should consider the city lord’s proposal."

Violet Bennett looked up sharply, seeming a bit tempted, but when she turned to look at Logan Bennett again, her gaze was filled with reluctance.

Chad Sullivan pressed on, " Violet, I can take care of your little brother for you."

Logan Bennett was completely confused, but he had a vague feeling that this might not be a good thing.

Suddenly, a long, piercing howl came from afar, and in just a moment, it had reached the courtyard.

A man of about thirty appeared. He looked at Violet Bennett and Chad Sullivan, laughing heartily. "So you two really made it out of the swamp. Congratulations."

Violet Bennett and the others fixed their gaze on him and returned the greeting seriously.

The middle-aged man smiled and said, "The city lord was very pleased to hear of your safe return and instructed me to come at once to invite you both to a banquet." He paused, then smiled again. "May I ask if you will accept the invitation?"

Violet Bennett frowned slightly. "Sir, we’ve just returned, covered in dust, and haven’t even washed up…"

The man laughed heartily, his gaze falling on Logan Bennett. "Miss Yu, this must be your brother whose meridians are naturally sealed, right? Haha, the city lord has already prepared everything—just waiting for you to come and collect it."

Violet Bennett looked up sharply, her eyes instantly shining with boundless light.

A moment later, she finally nodded slowly. "Very well, I’ll go with you."

Logan Bennett felt a chill in his heart. For some reason, he felt a pang of reluctance. Instinctively, he reached out and grabbed his sister’s sleeve, unwilling to let her go.

Violet Bennett turned and looked at her brother, her eyes instantly softening.

She gently pressed her hand on his, and whispered, "Brother, I’ll be right back. When I return, I’ll bring you something nice."

Logan Bennett opened and closed his mouth, reluctantly letting go and nodding gently. Yet inside his body, a voice was almost screaming out of control: "Sister, don’t go."

Violet Bennett nodded reassuringly, gently stroked her brother’s head, and felt a trace of inexplicable loss in her heart. But she quickly composed herself and said in a low voice, "Let’s go." The three figures disappeared in an instant.

Only when Violet Bennett's figure vanished from sight did the shouting inside Logan Bennett finally subside.

He let out a long breath, and his body suddenly began to tremble violently.

Because at that very moment, he suddenly realized that it was as if many things had appeared in his mind. Though it was just a fleeting glimpse, he could "see" them clearly.

The stationery shop—almost everything from that stationery shop was there.

He was shocked. Could it be that transmigrating and possessing someone wasn’t enough, even the stationery shop had come along?

"Young master, Young Master Yu…"

A string of calls brought the dazed Logan Bennett back to his senses.
