Chapter 13

Logan Bennett blinked, secretly amazed.

Although Mr. Foster was quite old, his eyesight shouldn't be that poor. There was a half-dead man lying motionless on the ground, and right next to him stood a living person with a covered face—could he really not see any of this?

Mr. Foster grabbed Logan Bennett's hand and chattered on, "Young Master Yu, come back with me, this old servant will cook for you."

Logan Bennett glanced at the still-frightened Lai Er, hesitated for a moment, but ended up leaving with Mr. Foster.

Before long, Mr. Foster brought him home. The old man slapped his forehead and said, "Oh dear, this old servant forgot to bring rice. Please wait a moment, young master."

Watching Mr. Foster wobble away, Logan Bennett stood there in a daze for a while. He opened the rice jar at home, only to find it nearly overflowing with gleaming white rice.

Looking up in the direction Mr. Foster had left, it didn't seem to be toward the Shen family either.

For some reason, a bone-chilling cold crept up inside him, making Logan Bennett shiver involuntarily.

Chapter 7: Divine Grace Manifested

The sun gradually moved westward, and when the last rays of light disappeared into the distant earth, Violet Bennett and Chad Sullivan returned at the same time.

No one knew what Mr. Foster had whispered to them, but Logan Bennett couldn't shake the feeling that the way these two looked at him was strange enough to make his heart race with anxiety.

Still, he had a strange confidence—no matter what happened, these two would never frame him.

This confidence came from the body he now controlled, a kind of trust that was utterly irrational.

A moment later, Chad Sullivan and Mr. Foster took their leave. Violet Bennett hesitated for a moment, then actually took Logan Bennett out of the courtyard, to a plot of land some distance from home.

From here, all the land in sight belonged to the village. Among them was a field not particularly large, perhaps ten mu at most. Yet, on this quiet night, a faint glow shimmered over the field. Especially when viewed from afar, it looked as if a dome of light covered the land, making it stand out so clearly.

Violet Bennett gazed silently for a while, then said, "Little brother, do you know what this place is?"

"Of course I do," Logan Bennett replied without hesitation. "This is the field of grace bestowed by the gods after you received divine favor, sister."

These memories all came from this body. Although the worldview here was completely different from Logan Bennett's previous life, as the saying goes, when in Rome, do as the Romans do—he wasn't so rigid as to be inflexible.

Violet Bennett sighed softly. "Yes, this is the field of divine grace, where spiritual herbs and flowers can be grown. No wonder it attracts greedy hands."

Logan Bennett looked up and said, "Sister, you don't need to worry. As long as you're here, no one will dare touch this place."

With a bitter smile, Violet Bennett said, "But what if I'm not here?"

Logan Bennett drew in a sharp breath, shock written all over his face. He didn't even need to fake this expression—his body had already reacted instinctively.

Sometimes, Logan Bennett really wondered if he was truly in control of this body.

"Sister, you... where are you going?" Logan Bennett asked cautiously.

"Little brother, there are some things it's time I told you." Violet Bennett turned, her clear, water-like eyes meeting his. "I've already promised the city lord that I will go with him to the continent to participate in the next Eye-Opening Grace Trial."

Logan Bennett looked up abruptly, his eyes full of delight. "Sister, you've reached the ninth star rank?"

Violet Bennett smiled and nodded. "The training in the Dead Marshes wasn't in vain. If all goes well, I have a good chance of receiving divine grace."

Logan Bennett was so excited that even his body trembled, though in truth, he didn't really understand what this body was so thrilled about. Deep down, he grew more and more worried—would he lose control of this body?

His reaction, however, was misunderstood by Violet Bennett. She smiled gently, like a hundred flowers blooming, and said softly, "Logan Bennett, don't worry, I won't let you down."

Logan Bennett forced himself to nod, cursing inwardly, What the hell is going on? Hurry up and calm down!

After a long moment, the trembling finally subsided. Logan Bennett took a deep breath and said, "Sister, take me with you."

Violet Bennett's eyes flickered. Suddenly, she reached out and struck at her little brother like lightning.

Logan Bennett's body instinctively shifted, leaping away in a flash. The speed and reflexes were simply unparalleled.

All of this was an unconscious reaction. Only after he had jumped away did he realize what had happened, exclaiming in surprise, "Sister, what are you doing?"

Ever since they were young, Violet Bennett had always doted on him. She had never so much as raised her hand, let alone spoken a harsh word.
