Even though she appeared exceptionally calm, Ryan Carter could still sense the vigilance flickering in her eyes, like a wounded fawn, constantly thinking in the cracks, searching for her own sense of security.
Sigh, after all, she was the woman who shared those wonderful dungeon days with me—I ought to do something for her.
Wait a minute!
I’m supposed to retire here in Sang Town.
If that’s the case, wouldn’t I have to run off to a prosperous, powerful city-state, letting my utterly ordinary self be completely buried in an even grander world??
Weren’t we supposed to not be responsible for each other??
……
……
The heavenly road was long and distant, and the gilded fire dragon was truly a rare and mighty giant dragon. Its entire body’s scales would always ripple with fiery waves, casting a crimson glow across the sky as its form swept by, exuding an extraordinary aura!
Ryan Carter wasn’t a stranger to riding dragons, but without any windproof coat, he could only let the biting wind wildly slap his face—especially now, in the cold autumn.
Riding a dragon, even though they were all on its back, the Valkyrie and Ryan Carter were, in a sense, guests under the dragon.
Henry Sullivan was clearly a living, breathing person, yet for some reason, he always gave off the feeling that he might turn into a man-eating beast at any moment.
Ryan Carter firmly believed that if it weren’t for his unnecessary presence, the frail Valkyrie would have already been eaten alive by Henry Sullivan.
Several times, when they stopped to rest, Ryan Carter could feel his life being threatened by this guy!
……
A campfire, a few large stones, and the three of them sat around the flames. Ryan Carter skillfully roasted a big green fish, and before long, the aroma began to waft out.
He divided it into three portions, served on lotus leaves. Ryan Carter first handed a portion to Charlotte Bennett, his fingers inadvertently brushing hers—still icy cold.
“Mr. Henry Sullivan, this one’s for you,” Ryan Carter said to Henry Sullivan.
“Thank you.” When dealing with his own people, Henry Sullivan wasn’t overly arrogant.
Taking a bite of fish, Henry Sullivan suddenly looked up, fixing his gaze on Ryan Carter, and asked, “Since Little Brother Carter is going to enter the Dragon Taming Academy, do you know how many ranks dragons have? And what is your young spirit? Can you summon it for me to see?”
Ryan Carter looked up at him.
Are you out of your mind? I roasted such delicious fish, and instead of enjoying the food, you’re probing me!
Definitely a psycho.
After cursing him a few times in his heart, Ryan Carter kept the same smile on his face as before and replied, “Why are you joking with me, Mr. Sullivan? I’m not a real dragon herder yet—I haven’t formed a spirit domain, so I can’t store my young spirit in it. My young spirit is indeed a storage dragon, but it’s inconvenient to bring along. Right now, it’s still in the clan’s warm nest, getting ready to hibernate.”
A young spirit is a juvenile creature with the potential to become a dragon.
Dragon herders can’t summon their young spirits at will, so taking care of a young spirit is a very troublesome task. Almost no one would take a weak, self-defense-less young spirit on a long journey—let alone the fact that not every young spirit will definitely become a dragon.
A young spirit that can’t become a dragon is worthless.
Many people spend their whole lives and fortunes, yet may never choose a young spirit that will ultimately become a dragon.
The Dragon Gate, for most people, stands high above the clouds—so lofty that they don’t even have the right to look up to it.
“I’ve only just become a dragon herder myself, so I might get some basic facts wrong, haha. But how many ranks are there for dragons? I always feel that after my Scarlet-scaled Dragon transformed, it’s much stronger than other dragons.” Henry Sullivan gave a fake smile.
“Dragons are ranked as Dragonling, Dragon General, Dragon Lord, Dragon Monarch, Dragon King… Perhaps it’s because your dragon’s bloodline is noble, Mr. Sullivan, and has the potential of a Dragon Lord.” Ryan Carter smiled along with him, though in his heart he’d already reviewed Henry Sullivan’s family tree with concern.
They were almost at the Ancestral Dragon City-State, and this Henry Sullivan still wouldn’t give up.
Obsession is truly a scary thing!
Speaking of which…
Henry Sullivan was exiled from his clan in the past for peeping at the Valkyrie while she practiced swordsmanship and getting beaten up badly.
It was just peeking at sword practice! It’s not like she was naked.
So, as someone who’s done everything with the Valkyrie, wouldn’t I be thrown into a pot of oil by the The Bennett Family, fried, then wrapped in a big vegetable leaf to cut the grease and fed to an evil dragon???
Chapter 7: The Invisible Ryan Carter
……
The Ancestral Dragon City-State stood on a vast, fertile plain. Three snowmelt rivers wound their way from distant mountains, irrigating countless villages, towns, and cities before finally converging at the silver-gray Ancestral Dragon City-State!
The city-state was divided into two parts, separated by a solemn, grand, silver-gray wall.
The most awe-inspiring thing about the Ancestral Dragon City-State was this wall. The moment you flew into the ink-green plain, it was as if you were witnessing a primordial earth dragon from the dawn of the world, lying across the horizon.
“It’s said that the Ancestral Dragon City-State was formed from the body of a primordial dragon. Seeing it today, it’s no lie!” Ryan Carter sighed inwardly.
Upon seeing the Ancestral Dragon City-State, the knot in Charlotte Bennett’s heart didn’t ease much. In fact, just thinking about facing all those people who knew her so well made her feel short of breath.
“Miss Yun Zi, you don’t need to worry about that matter. I’ve silenced them all.” Henry Sullivan seemed to have noticed the complexity in Charlotte Bennett’s heart and showed a special kind of consideration.
Charlotte Bennett did not respond.
