Chapter 13

Logan Bennett activated a divine spell, but his mind couldn’t focus, so he stepped forward, using the Holy Light Shield and the Radiant Sword to block all the red-eyed rats coming from the front.

The rats that dodged the Radiant Sword kept attacking the Holy Light Shield one after another, but as the light flickered, the shield didn’t waver in the slightest, giving Gary Miller and Corey Allen the chance to calmly slay and knock away the rats.

After two or three seconds, Logan Bennett’s mind recovered. He rubbed the holy emblem again and recited the awkward incantation: “Gurti.”

A beam of white light shot out from the cross on the holy emblem, landing at Logan Bennett’s feet, and the tingling sensation immediately disappeared.

With Logan Bennett holding the Holy Light Shield at the front, although Corey Allen and Gary Miller were occasionally bitten when they couldn’t dodge in time, the situation gradually turned around. As the number of red-eyed rats dwindled, the danger slowly faded.

Logan Bennett took the opportunity to activate the holy emblem and healed the wounds on Corey Allen and Gary Miller.

Not long after, Corey Allen killed a red-eyed rat with a single slash, its blood splattering everywhere, then let out a light breath. “Finally, we’ve cleared them all.”

The ground was now covered with red-eyed rat corpses and pools of dark red blood that had accumulated.

Logan Bennett stared at them in a daze, hardly believing he had done this. Gary Miller nodded. “Logan Bennett, you did well.”

Logan Bennett snapped out of it, ready to thank Gary Miller.

Gary Miller took a breath and instructed, “Hudson Grant, you go with Logan Bennett to check the secret room.”

Since Logan Bennett had the Holy Light Shield, Hudson Grant had stayed at the back and hadn’t been bitten by the rats. At this point, Gary Miller naturally wanted everyone to play their part.

But it was silent behind them. The always quiet and taciturn Hudson Grant didn’t respond.

Corey Allen turned around in confusion, then, filled with shock and fear, stammered, “Hudson Grant, Hudson Grant is gone.”

Just a moment ago, Hudson Grant had been fending off the red-eyed rats above their heads, calmly guarding the rear for the three of them—now he had vanished?!

A chill crept up Logan Bennett’s spine again.

Chapter Six: The Unexpected

Neither Logan Bennett, nor Gary Miller or Corey Allen, had heard any sounds of fighting, screams, or hurried footsteps.

The tall, strong, taciturn, and highly skilled senior knight attendant Hudson Grant had disappeared without a sound?!

A cold sensation quickly rose from the soles of Logan Bennett’s feet, spreading through his whole body, and his breathing grew slightly heavier.

Gripping the Radiant Sword tightly, Logan Bennett quickly turned his head to look behind him.

On the wall of the sewer on the other side, green moss glimmered faintly, but the absence of any trace of Hudson Grant made it all seem extremely eerie.

Suddenly, a scream rang out. Logan Bennett, who had just turned his head and was on edge, instinctively looked over.

A giant rat, as big as a human, had already knocked Corey Allen to the ground. Its sharp claws pierced his shoulder, tearing through the tough chainmail, and blood flowed out, staining the silvery-gray armor plates. Its pair of crimson eyes, strange and demonic, seemed to hold a hint of mockery.

But its wide-open mouth, with those terrifying teeth, bit down on the sword that Corey Allen had managed to turn horizontally just in time.

As a senior knight attendant, Corey Allen had saved his own life at the most dangerous moment with a textbook sword move. With his left hand, he swung his shield hard at the giant rat’s belly.

The fear he felt now was far less than the fear of the unknown. At least for Logan Bennett, a red-eyed giant rat the size of a normal human, moving silently, was much easier to accept than a “mysterious disappearance.”

Taking a breath, Logan Bennett didn’t hesitate. He swung his Radiant Sword at the red-eyed giant rat to rescue Corey Allen.

But just then, a low, beast-like growl sounded behind Logan Bennett.

“Gary Miller is in trouble too?!” As Logan Bennett thought of Gary Miller standing behind him, a sharp knight’s longsword slashed hard at Logan Bennett’s back.

The pale white glow of the Holy Light Shield flickered violently, instantly dimming a lot. At the same time, the huge impact made Logan Bennett lose his balance, stumbling several steps forward and to the side.

The knight’s longsword pursued, slashing repeatedly, leaving Logan Bennett unable to regain his footing in his haste. He could barely swing the Radiant Sword, let alone focus and rub the holy emblem to cast a divine spell.

Logan Bennett dodged in panic, shocked and confused: “Why is Gary Miller attacking me?!”

The attack with the knight’s longsword had come from behind. If it wasn’t Gary Miller, there was only one possibility: Gary Miller was already dead!

The rhythm of the knight’s longsword was perfect, never giving Logan Bennett a chance to steady himself, forcing him to stumble into the secret room.

But after being struck several times, Logan Bennett realized he hadn’t been hurt at all. His panic gradually subsided. With the Holy Light Shield, why was he trying to regain his balance and fight hand-to-hand?!

The thought flashed by. As the knight’s longsword slashed again, Logan Bennett let himself fall to the ground, rolled, and with his left hand—already prepared—grabbed the holy emblem.

At this moment, Logan Bennett finally saw clearly who was attacking him.
